  1. Thanks for the great pics. I hope to get out there and hunt this year too!
  2. Thanks for sharing that great adventure. It brought back nice memories of when I lived up in Nipigon - land of the world record - and would trek miles into thick forest to holes that had never seen fishing line. I'm sure your next trip will be full of brookies.
  3. The Piranha was commissioned by Barrichello, so I'd assume it is a dream sadly. Ya I believe they are biding their time, apparently till 2010! Still wearing my shirt before each weekend however.
  4. I love Formula One, so this find was pretty awesome. These are made by a very well known head mechanic who worked most recently for the Honda F1 team before it folded. http://www.carbonart45.com/sculpture1.html Should ask him to make a Steelhead!
  5. Since it seems humorous to Centerpin_drift maybe he can read some facts and have some more laughs. http://www.ocoa.ca/Pages_MNRnews/index.htm Unfortunately in this day and age some forget its people that are guilty, not whole groups.
  6. You can get Chotas at Lebarons for $61, -10% with the discount. I got a pair, so far so good and I know several others that do with no issues. http://chotooutdoorgear.net/shop/product_i...p;products_id=7
  7. Nice fish. Better than crappie and sunfish!
  8. I keep them and find them no different from other panfish in taste and ease of fillet, as others have already mentioned. The other reason I keep them is to help the bass and other popular game fish. Anyone who has caught Rock Bass will know they are extremely aggressive, often hitting baits hanging right off the side of the boat or dock while fixing your line. Rock Bass feed heavily on small fry, such as baby pass, walleye ect.. My friend has a cottage in a back lake with very little fishing pressure and it is filled with Rock Bass. So we do our part by eating a few!
  9. Hey, I need to get a float rod and wondering if people can suggest some good stores in the Toronto area. I've been to tightlines, lebarons, Al F's and the Pro. If people can recommend some shops with good prices I'd really appreciate it! Thanks guys.
  10. Thanks guys for all the replies!
  11. Could someone enlighten me with a tackle shop that sells Trout roe bags instead of salmon in/near the Toronto area? Thanks!
  12. Hey Pinners, What knot do you commonly use to attach your backing to your main line?
  13. Here's a pretty good test about fluorocarbon lines with interesting "conclusions" on visibility claims. Part 1: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbontest.html Part 2: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbon2.html
  14. Ya breathables sound like the way to go and I'm pretty good with cold weather. The Simms Freestone's look good. Anyone have these? So far online reviews have been very favorable. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...__SearchResults
  15. Thanks for the replies. So from the sounds of it Bare is a reliable brand that can withstand leaks with regular use? I've read reviews on lots of brands and many seem to leak after a year or two, so I'm trying to narrow it down to the reliable brands.
  16. I'm interested in buying the Bare Supra 4 waders. Seem really well priced at $160 at Lebarons. Anyone ever use this model and can provide feedback on durability, fit and comfort? Thanks.
  17. I'm one that always offers to help land a fish for someone, often times when I'm on the river and the guy has a net, but has walked down stream so far that his/her net is beyond reach. I definitely understand people not wanting to let a stranger use your equipment, that's why I'll offer to do the duties though I often also lend my net to another person in their group so they can do the honours and blame themselves if they lose it in the process! Plus the quicker I stop that fish from thrashing around in the water (and scaring away other fish) the quicker I can get my line back in.
  18. Hey guys, Wanted to see what ideas people have for organizing all the essential gear inside 4x6 fish hut. Pictured below is the exact dimensions of the one I have. (One shown is a Shappell 3000) This is what I'm trying to figure out. If I want to drill two holes under each flap, it doesn't leave me much room to put the finder and the heater, either a Mr. Buddy or a Coleman BlackCat. I could drill only one hole on one side and use that space, but i'm concerned about the heater being to close to the finder. Plus I prefer to have two holes for each guy. I'm thinking about making my own shelf to stack the heater and finder in the middle space and shielding the heat away from it at the same time. For those with this style hut, what do you do?
  19. So zone 17 is open for pan fish in winter? That's kinda what I gathered from reading that government document.
  20. Awesome report. I grew up in Nipigon, haven't been back since 1992, and seeing your pics of the lake brought back a lot of great memories.
  21. For sure if you're planning to Catch and Release, I've read in various publications that it helps to bring up the fish slowly. Not slow, slow, but slow enough so the fish can adapt to the change in pressure, increasing its chance for survival.
  22. I was out north of JP fishing 67 feet of water.
  23. Ya this one went home for a date with some fish crisp and it was thoroughly enjoyed. And so far i've only tested the suit in the cold Simcoe air and I hope it stays that way! But at least I'm protected in the event. That's why I invested in one because the rest of this season and next I'm going to explore a lot of back lakes, so safety is definitely top priority. Oh ya forgot to mention, hit this Whitey and my last 2, using a William H/H. What was different was that each one hit after I let the spoon swim way out to the side, then jigging it progressively back to the center of the hole. In fact the last three Whities were caught jigging about 10 to 15 feet off bottom and always on the first drop down the hole and letting it swim way off to the side of the hole.
  24. Hit Simcoe last Saturday and caught this nice 6.5 pound Whitey. Lost another bigger one at the hole and missed a bunch of hits. Overall it was a decent day, but I really had to move around a lot trying to mark fish. It was pretty cold, luckily I just got my HH float suit from Hirks a few days before and got to test it out for the first time. Happy to say it kept me really warm.
