So here's my dilema. Currently my domain regristration and hosting is taken care of by Netfirms in Toronto. Well I just got an email from them and they have been sold to a US company. I want to keep my $$$ in Canada so am looking for a new hosting/registration company in Canada. So who are you guys out there using who are Canadian and how is their service. I found a company called Hostpapa.ca also located in Toronto, anyone using their service?

Definately go with a group 27 or larger. I have an 80# 24V unit running on 2 group 27's. Almost forgot, I have had good luck with the CT Nautilus batteries. My last set lasted 6 years. Just remember to recharge at the end of the day. Leaving a battery 1/2 charged is a sure fire way to decrease it's life.

Go with a fixed mount as they have much more power. Handhelds are generally 6 watt max output while a fixed mount is 25. If you're looking for a compact fixed mount get yourself an Icom IC-M304. It's the smallest I've seen and fits nicely in smaller boats. Here's a couple of shots of the one in my 18 footer.

I checked the price of gas here after seeing this thread yesterday and it seems our price went up 9 cents a liter since Friday. We're still not that bad though at $1.259 a liter.

Voip over satellite takes quite a bit of getting used to. Remember you are transmitting through the air to a bird in the sky and back before your packets hit a terrestrial based hard line for transport to the provider, and then back to your computer. The time it takes to hit the sat and then the ground station adds about 3/4 of a second to the journey. The same journey over hard lines takes less than 100 milliseconds. The 3/4 second delay causes the two parties to talk over each other and cut each other off. I tried my vonage device on sat when I first moved to the NWT and now have cable inet for making my calls via my vonage device.

If you have a [email protected] email addy don't worry. Bell actually hosts it on Microsofts servers and the email accounts don't get deleted when you leave Bell. I have been using my sympatico acct. for over 10 years and haven't had a bell inet account for the last 6.
