  1. smallies, walleye, pike, gars and crappie, channel cats too...some of my better spots used to be fanshawe dam, springbank, labatts dam, the forks, down by delaware...lots of good spots, especially if you wade...it was a lot better before they "repaired" springbank dam, have they fixed that yet? or decided to keep it permanently open?
  2. the kipawa prop is awesome, great in weeds and especially in big chop with wind
  3. maybe change a few of my future purchases, but overall still a big shimano fan, they've been much better than some other companies on customer service (and it also says they will still honour existing lifetime warranties) regardless of manufacturer, high end usually equals higher sensitivity and lighter weight, both of which tend to come at the expense of durability...and for some rods I'm ok with taking that risk
  4. I had neighbours one summer in Peterborough, 4 professional guys from UK somewhere, they said it's cheaper to book their vacation time all together, fly to Canada, rent a student house for a month and fish their hearts out...cheaper to do that than it is to join a club back home...where you pay your membership fees, and then book the date, time slot and location on the river...crazy we truly are blessed with fishing and hunting in Canada
  5. x 2...that's a great knife, I buy one every time they have the 9.99 sale cabelas regularly puts the Kershaw folding knives on sale, they were 7.99 a while back...the rubber handle is awesome...they sharpen well and hold a good edge if you're a hunter, another good knife is the havalon, has replaceable scalpel blades http://www.havalon.com/piranta-edge-skinning-knife-xt60edge.html
  6. 90% of the residents are pro mining, otherwise it's pack up your life to the lower mainland and find new jobs....most residents in the north are employed directly/indirectly through natural resource extraction...anybody that wants economic growth is pro mining, there are lots of examples of well run operations, but no doubt industry is greedy and ethics lacking reported to have been 5 warnings prior, regarding miss use or over use...if that is actually true, 50% of the blame belongs to the ministry of environment for allowing them to continue operations...guess they don't like losing their taxation revenues from production....there should be a mandatory non compliance shut down order if actions do not occur within 30 days of the first warning....we need the gov't to stop screwing us over for corporate gain how the breach occurred will take a while, sounds like it will be a legal nightmare to determine fault: "The dam is an independently engineered structure that operated within design limits and specifications. Monitoring instruments and onsite personnel had no indication of an impending breach," the company said. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/mount-polley-mine-tailings-pond-dam-stable-imperial-metals-1.2727776 but hey, water is almost safe.... http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/mount-polley-mine-tailings-water-very-close-to-drinking-quality-company-says-1.2727776
  7. I'm about 5 hrs north, very sad news....the pathetic part is there were warnings and lack of enforcement from ministry....operations should have been suspended for non compliance I'm of a pro mining/resource industry opinion, aka pro jobs, but in an accountable and sustainable manner, what happened down there is horrible...I'd love to see their CEO drink a glass of that water, which he states is almost drinking water quality, after the solids are removed...

  9. the14wt GLX is ready and desperately waiting....any takers? seriously...lol pm me for info guessing your wife works with an airline? lucky dude...arapaima, taimen and wells catfish are top of the exotic list for me
  10. I'd also like to fly fish for taimen in malaysia before that fishery is completely run by american tour operators with jacked up prices...but a lot more money for that trip and won't happen quick enough you could get your peacock bass in barramundi in florida, plus tarpon, snook and a bunch of other saltwater fish...bass too obviously
  11. 14 days in Guyana for arapaima, plus some exotic catfish and other species, 9 days fishing plus 5 jungle travel, travel days outside of the 14....trying to make it happen for 2016, can't convince any friends...need a diehard, somewhat crazy fly angler willing to shell out 4k (fly from TO)...you in? LOL
  12. thanks for the feedback on the wrapping issue....doesn't happen often but it does happen, i'll try to take a video of it next time, follow up with minn kota
  13. not sure about the battery life, never really compared that, I ordered the kipawa prop fairly quick after getting my trolling motor...but it is noticeably more responsive and better control in wind and big chop compared to the standard mk prop...I don't fish very thick weed beds like some ON lakes, but it has no issues with the weeds I do encounter
  14. I put a kipawa prop on mine, very happy with it...ordered the foot pedal as well, love the complete control you get only very minor complaint I've noticed, is sometimes in spot lock it will wrap the cord around the shaft
  15. lol how many naturally deceased bear carcasses does an outdoorsman find in his lifetime? animals are constantly expanding or reclaiming traditional territories, and cougars are one of the most elusive in North America, not sure why there is so much doubt over this
  16. glad to hear your dog did good and nothing major happened...did the wolf/hybrid look starving or injured? coyotes and wolves are smart critters, kill a few of them and they learn quick....do some rabbit calling and see what happens had a couple of close calls with my pup, he's somewhat educated now but also still rocking his nuts and won't use his brain if he catches scent, so I'm pretty careful ice fishing with him...wolves and coyotes everywhere out west regularly see the female on the tree line, yipping and whining, playful with others waiting in the bush...my 8 month old lab fell for it but I was watching at the time....he had a quick tussle with the yotes and got the crap scared out of him, I dropped 1 and they took off...they're still around but want nothing to do with us now, whenever they cross the fence line I give them a reminding now and then, it works....but if you have a food source out there, it'll constantly attract them
  17. can you still work with hemostats, or needle nose pliers? I sometimes tie a clinch knot with hemostats when my fingers are really frozen, perhaps it would work easy enough for you too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW-WH5Ai44E
  18. that's awesome! good to hear you had a pleasant experience they used to be known for brutal service, but they seem to have turned it around past few years...haven't needed to use bushnell for warranty yet, but vortex on the other hand....best warranty is the one you don't need to use
  19. if you have a few weeks, buy the essentials you have confidence in and then keep on eye on the classifieds, lots of stuff is always coming up around here
  20. cool catch...how's your net smelling after that lol
  21. it's pretty easy to bend a closed eye if you want, easy to adjust to run true after you bend it...maybe not with titanium wire spinner baits, but most are very easy to modify
  22. cause it sucks losing 50$ of lures in a day...or a monster pike the 6lb knot 2 kinky stuff is easy to handle and tie, so doesn't bother me to use it, no different than running a leader on top of braid
  23. is the OP looking for store bought, or wants to make your own? strictly pike fishing or walleye too I'd guess? I'm about 50/50 mono/fluoro vs steel or titanium wire....use the titanium wire for lighter baits and plastics in the weeds, cuts through easier if I'm targeting walleyes and know there will be some good sized pike involved, I like the titanium wire in 6-12lb tests, specifically a brand called Knot 2 Kinky, easy to tie once you get the hang of it, relatively kink proof and doesn't affect action too much big fan of the Rio steel tippet in the fly section, few manufacturers with similar products if you're buying store bought, make sure they come with a good snap, a lot of the cheap ones don't, sucks when they pull open
  24. shop has the boat now, they called this morning and said they had it running for 30 mins or so and couldn't produce the symptoms I listed, talked about what was happening in more detail and haven't heard back yet...will follow up tomorrow
