  1. Some had them around the gills and tail. Not too bad. Actually it was perch brekkie with a side of taters and eggs sunny side up.
  2. Well, session 5 has been cancelled until Judy can get rid of a nasty cold bug. Good thing too. She's been feeling right miserable the past few days. The past few weeks I've been wearing the pink ribbon around my hat at market. It has certainly attracted attention On a darker note, My Aunt Betty slipped peacefully, without suffering, an hour ago. A lively person who marched to the beat of her own drum, I will miss her deeply.
  3. The son insisted I take one day of the long weekend for myself and do some serious fishing. Off to Orillia at 6 in the morning towing his 12' tinny and makeshift trailer. Despite a slow morning, the afternoon bite was hot. A lot of quality 10-12" fish, and a 14" to boot. Caught more than enough for 2 hours late night cleaning.
  4. I still love my 40 year old Rapala because of it's flex, but I go to my Mora when I want backbone.
  5. Burlington st. and the Redhill have a lot of scrap haulers running the roads constantly. Sadly those are my main routes into the hospitals. Every tire has been patched at least once. I had the same problem when I worked in construction. Trades were always sloppy when reloading their pouches with nails and screws. That only stopped when I (the site super) started docking anyone we caught dropping metal on the road. We were paying out $400 in tire repairs to new home owners with nail punctures
  6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXysRO11Xi8 I don't know what it is, or why,.... It seems I have to pick up a piece of metal every month when I drive into Hamilton. Same thing last night. Best part.. the new hole is beside an existing plug and they don't have the tire available til after the holiday. It's been 4 years since I last got a tire to last more than 50k
  7. Sorry, horse racing was not self-sustaining. Without slots, subsidies and grants, they (the industry) cannot hope to stay afloat
  8. I'm hoping your family has some good news in the coming weeks
  9. Yes, but using a rubbing stick on a grooved channel. It requires dry wood and patience
  10. Waterproof matches and striker along with a wax cone starter
  11. Nothing quite like the rumble and roar of RollsRoyce Merlins, or a Packard, engine. Then there is the drone from the P&W engine on the Harvard Trainer.
  12. Nothing like a little low level training time to get the locals excited. It really gets exciting when a Herc does a tree top run to deliver the Paras for a wargame exercise.
  13. Liver, bacon and onions for me and the pooch this morning. Yummy!!!!
  14. The regular is always coffee, in a dirty mug. In season, it is bacon and tomato sandwiches. In winter we have bacon with eggs or cheese for our sandwich. Me and puppy dog also have our weekly fish brekkie.
  15. Doctors are always ready to blame OHIP for the surgical delays. They would love to be able to charge whatever they want for their services. Sadly, the shortage of specialists is due to the limitation on salaries. Many a specialist, upon completing their residencies, go running to the states to write their own paycheques, despite the fact that a large portion of their education was underwrote by Canadian taxpayers. Yes wait times would shorten considerably under a user pay system. That is because more than a third of our population could not afford services under a privatized system, and would be forced to do without.
  16. That just put a badly needed chuckle in my belly, and a smile on my face.
  17. There is a farm at St Jakob's market that produces authentic pure corn, natural tortillas
  18. Emend is the new med Judy is trying this week.
  19. Third session in the books, and it has been a rough week. So far the nausea meds have been ineffective. Now we are looking at the possibility that the cancer is spreading. We top the week off with a meds reaction that hit the bride's kidneys. Spent all night in emerg with Judy in excruciating pain while they rule out all the possibilities.
  20. it's a Canadian thing. Just like our government. We love doling out millions of dollar to be fed crap
  21. Every time this issue comes up, it has the same polarization of evil/ not evil. However, to play devil's advocate.. Lets agree that guns are evil because of the harm they can cause. Ban them. Ban sharp knives. They can kill, therefore they are evil. Logically, we must also ban alcohol, and cigarettes, as they also kill. Cars kill too, perhaps we should also ban them? We could go on and on with this line of simplistic argument. Regardless of the circumstance, these are merely objects. Incapable of doing any harm of their own accord. I The problem is the people using and abusing the objects. Good and evil reside in people, not objects.
  22. I spent 20 years heating my home with wood. It is only economical if you can scrounge up most of your yearly supply. Drying is key. Know your wood types, burn rates and BTU's. Having been an arborists assistant, I burnt whatever I cut down or trimmed. That can include some really unusual species of tree. Back on topic, pines and spruce are fine for daytime burn, even willow for that matter, but only if you let it dry adequately. For me that means 2 years in the shed.
  23. Cool wet summers always bring an increase. A lot of ponds are often dried out before the tadpoles can fully develop. That wasn't a problem this year.
  24. Old world method for stacking wood and storing hay or straw
