  1. Gotta admit I'm partial to Fundy lobster.
  2. Started trying out my father's day cookbook that the grandkids gave me. Tonight I served up some creole jambalaya. Toss in some perch, some shrimp, and a good helping of andouille sausage. Had to dumb down the heat a little for the rest of the family, but some good, ah garontie!! Definitely a recipe I will repeat.
  3. Just went out for an afternoon picnic on the banks of the Grand. In tow were the children and grandchildren. Ran out some lines just in case the fish were biting. Had a bucket fight with the 2 pre-school aged grandkids. The son-in-law was the only one to catch a fish. Despite being a new dad, father's day, and all that, we had to revoke Andrew's man card. Apparently he won't take the hook off or touch the fish. That boy needs some working on methinks.
  4. Have to admit, I never had a dad. I certainly had a lot of uncles who filled the slot just fine. I've taken the best I learnt from them and applied it all when it was my turn to be a Dad, and now as a Grampa. It sure was a great feeling of pride when my son ran us up to Biscotasi for a week with his grandmother. No better feeling than knowing my son is my best fishing partner.
  5. Nice looking dog. You love them and they'll love you back unconditionally.
  6. To be quite honest, I'm not sure. It's been a few years since I last flew in lobster. The Mrs does not like seafood.
  7. I'm spoiled. I can just dial up my uncle and he can take a 1/2 hour drive to the cove.
  8. Apple juice, tsp worcestershire sauce, tbsp soy sauce, tbsp lemon juice, salt and pepper, 2 diced cloves garlic.
  9. That other stuff would be methane. My solution to the gas shortage.
  10. What's scary is that the grandkids (with my son's help) got me another new cookbook. This one features a lot of them southern recipes that should put fire in your belly. There's some 200 more for me to preview and test.
  11. Thanks for all the kindness gang. Yup, Grampa is happier than a pig in ---- LOL! Have not had the chance to have Savannah in my arms yet. Don't want to wake her up. Im just sitting here enjoying a warm fuzzy while knocking back a few.
  12. Gonna have to find a bigger house!!! Need room for all the grandkids fishing trophies and mounts.
  13. The daughter finally gave birth on Friday afternoon at 3:17 in the afternoon. We now welcome A 9lb 5oz bundle of joy to our little clan. Little Savannah ( smaller than the 11lb estimate) is a cutie and already has a full head of hair. Next addition is due in November.
  14. I would never buy them frozen. Got them fresh up at the market.
  15. Had me a tasty simple treat last night. Starts with a good dollop of butter, 2 chopped cloves of garlic in a hot pan. Then stir in 1/2 cup diced bacon til it starts browning . Lastly add 1/2 qt well washed fiddleheads. Oh soooo good!
  16. Guelph and K/W are boomtowns. Land getting so expensive that young Mennonites have been moving up to the 17 to find affordable land to homestead.
  17. I learnt a long time ago to drive through Toronto after 9pm or before 6am. It makes life so much simpler.
  18. WIllow, basswood and poplars need a good 2 seasons to fully dry when stored properly. Absolutely fine as fuel during the shoulder months as long as it does not go punky.
  19. We are keeping the eats simple right now. Silver bass from Sunday's adventure, home fries, fresh Erie asparagus, and young spinach greens from our Mennonite friends. Anything more complicated would just interfere with the current round of canning.
  20. Sorry man, but it's non stop subdivision from Steeles to the south shores of Lady Simcoe. It's called urban sprawl.
  21. Who cares what colour shirt you wear as long as you are catching fish. Besides, seeing as Keswick is part of the extended Toronto suburbia, pink is just urban camouflage.
  22. Been so busy lately. No time to fish. Was having doubts of going out today with all the doom and gloom forecasts. The son and I decided to ignore all the bad omens and drove out to Windsor anyway. We arrive to high winds, heavy rain, and dropping temps. None of that mattered. The silver bass were biting. We toughed it out for all of 2 hours of non stop action. After that we were wet enough , and tired enough, to admit the weather had gotten the better of us. I can just imagine what the bite would have been like with more moderate weather.,
  23. Certainly did not affect the bite on the Detroit today.
  24. Past few nights the focus has been on the veggies. I especially love asparagus season. I'll buy buckets of asparagus tips at market just to steam and drown with garlic butter as a side dish with anything. Last night the side was jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and crab. Tonight I was serving sweet and sour marinated cucumber. I'm hoping some of the Mennonite farmers will start harvesting some fresh spinach soon.
  25. I set aside 200 bulbs every year, for my own use, from the garlic I've sewn. I do love cooking with garlic.
