  1. As I recall, alcohol seems to be a factor in a number of these snowmobile fatalities.
  2. Congrats on a very good year. I haven't caught one of those needles in 20 years.
  3. Thanks for the kind words guys. Since I was a little one, fishing was a family thing. It is always more fun when there is somebody around to share the day. That way I always have a scapegoat for when the day goes wrong
  4. Buy toys that you and the child can share. More fishing gear, an ice hut, a father and son weekend with the mouse
  5. Your ice build up could be from an insufficient grade on your trough, or a slight sag along the one section. It is amazing how much trouble can be caused by a handful of leaves at the top of the gutter.
  6. Then you really don't want to know what's in the ground meat.
  7. You didn't hit Dal for bass season? you missed a great season then.
  8. Yup. The fishing along the south shore, all the way into the Severn Sound, was really poor back in the early 80's. It has changed a lot in 20 years.
  9. For only having 66 days on the water you have had an exceptional year. I've seen you out on Dalrymple once or twice. You have that lake dialed in pretty good.
  10. It happens in all creatures wild and domestic. You should see some of the growths or tumors found on livestock during the inspection process. I worked a year at the old cattle yard in T.O. when I dropped out of high school. Blleccch!
  11. As I sit here, stranded at home for the day, I have a lot of time to reflect on my fishing year. Finally made the effort to join OFC. A smart decision. You guys are a hoot. It's not the numbers of fish caught. Like Dan C., I can go and catch fish anytime. It's the quality of my outings and the time I share. I am only so glad to have had the opportunity to share my time, and my passion, with others. I get my biggest kick watching youngsters and newbies catching any fish. I am blessed with good friends and a loving family who make my days out a joy. Life is far too short to worry about how many or how big. The biggest catch are those in the net beside me.
  12. We used to go jetty jumping on the East coast as part of our training. Quite a shock when you hit the water, and I was used to it. 2 minutes of immersion in the Labrador current is enough to kill a man. We grew up with having winter saunas . Even with that kind of conditioning it doesn't take much before hypothermia sets in.
  13. I've spooled the ice rods with whatever we won last winter. Had a bunch of different spools. Some 6lb berkeley. 4lb. yellow stuff?, 10lb. Polecat. Never heard of before. Mustn't forget the black cord.
  14. Don't forget our anthem: "We drink Carling Red Cap, its our favourite brew"...
  15. Everybody knows that a pair of Canajun fishermen, armed with their trusty poles, their boat, and a 12 pack of stubbies can solve the worlds woes in 4 hours. Or so my uncle used to tell me.
  16. Every day is the right day as long as I can get outside and breathe in the free air.
  17. Start off as a Muskoka brat with the stretch from Waubushene to Mactier as my playground. Lived in 8 different parts of the GTA over 20 years while running back up with relatives every chance I got. Never could find solid work up there. Been in Beamsville (pronounced- Buhmsville), Niagara region the past 17 I'd move to Orillia in a heartbeat but wifey is skeered of snow
  18. Seeing as we are now bringing out the old Sunday shows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo7KcjcaMEs...feature=related I don't knowww, Daaavey?
  19. I even tried the secret Finnglish fish call
  20. I got to play at a few of his PR events. Used to play in a Sea Cadet band in the early 70's Had to have all those forementioned Canadian songs memorized. Brampton was just one big subdivision back then. Half the houses were built by Bramalea Construction back then.
  21. I hate sitting indoors, so grab my gear and the trusty backpack. A few back ponds just have skim ice here in Niagara. Hasn't been quite cold enough for real ice making. Must have covered a mile of shoreline looking for some action. NADA Been a while since I got me a white stripe, but it has to happen sooner or later.
  22. I won't apologize for all the flag waving. I am a very loyal, and rabid, Canadian Oh, and one more for the "blue jackets" out there: Come cheer up my lads to the tavern we steer, To have us some more of that wonderful cheer' To the P O's we drink and the Snotties who sneer We'll have us some pints til we've drunk all the beer....
  23. God that does bring back a ton of memories. Emperor Bill ( Davis ) would always have a brass band or school choir to sing/play that theme every time a new provincial facility or program was opened. More important was our national theme from the Centennial and EXPO. Remember Bobby Gimby? "North, South, East, West, There'll be happy times....." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjiIvGpbYX8 Back when Canadians were proud of this country And a few other forgotten Canadian tunes: Maple City http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0hWpRj7Nus...feature=related Maple Leaf Forever
  24. My goodness. I think this young fella likes to fish! Yer obviously no slouch. Welcome.
