  1. We were eating lots of chowder and ham soup over the past week. Rotating sniffles between my kid's families.
  2. I'm on kitchen duty today. Nothing fancy, that's for sure. Processing up a few batches of baby food for the wee granddaughters. Pear and blueberry crisp for desert. Homemade chili for supper.
  3. And if one of these clowns cuts their leg off there will be no sympathy at this end. I've known far too many loggers with legitimate, serious, life changing injuries.
  4. Despite all the up and down temperatures, I have been getting out int the Niagara area for some slabs. Not a typical spring by any measure. Have not had any on fire days. Mornings being too cold, the crappie don't turn on until the last 2-3 hours of the day. When they do turn on they are plain crazy, smacking anything that moves. Bucktails have been working great. Caught one that swallowed my float.
  5. Was good to see so many friends from OFC at the show. Gotta admit I lost track and lost count of everybody. Wish I could have spent more time catching up, but I was getting swamped.
  6. 2 tables full of goodies. Lots of bucktails and spinnerbaits. 2 jars of mild for Brian, I think???
  7. I believe Ritchie's End of Trail is dog friendly. At least itwas 3 years back.
  8. And I thoroughly enjoy watching them, Simon
  9. Gotta love them fishing infomercials. It's what's helping to keep cable TV alive
  10. Wayne, I know that your family 's story has helped myself, and numerous others, understand and cope with the ordeal that is cancer. I realize this is small consolation for the loss of your daughter, but from my house to yours, thank you
  11. Today is the day. Some good deals to be had. Son and I will be there with Ugliboys Baits.
  12. The only traffic jams happen in Thorold at 3:00 in front of the elementary school, and at 5:45 in front of the beer store
  13. The OFAH maintains the record fish registry for Ontario. There are rules and conditions to be met before a new record is recognized. For more information, look up the OFAH web site under programs.
  14. There is also a swap in Ft Erie on the Sunday at the Leisureplex
  15. Casey loves people food. As a puppy he started to rummage through the garbage, but no more. Funny thing is the dog won't eat Timbits, and being a good fishing dog he won't eat bananas.
  16. Casey, and my buddy's dog Remy, stole a couple of jalapenos from my picking bins at the farm. It was the most hilarious thing you ever saw. Butt up in the air, front paws outstretched, and nose to the ground as they retched. Sounded just like a drunk teenager praying to the porcelain gods. They won't go near the picking bins anymore, but they sure have an appetite for cherry tomatoes.
  17. It's all about the jobs. My first wife was from the Soo. In the 80's jobs were really scarce there. Everybody with less than 15 yrs had been dropped at Algoma Steel. The result was a a 10,000 person drop in population between censuses. We lived there for 2 years before we headed back to the GTA
  18. Getting away from the GTA was a good thing for us some 25 years back. Rural Niagara was pretty rural back then. Far too many subdivisions going up now, but the fishing is decent. Getting too long in the tooth to think of going back to rural any more. With the Mrs being hospitalized almost every year, my family needs that proximity to complex healthcare that one cannot find in the rural north. It is a healthier, freer lifestyle. Enjoy.
  19. A lot of freezing rain and 2" of snow down here. Driving to the hospital this morning was a piece of cake.
  20. Berkely used to have a little printed illustrated handout and a wallet card with basic knots for fishing.
  21. At least you are on the fish. I'm still waiting for the video of all that slab action.
  22. We've had a table there the past 7 years. Not a bad local show.
  23. Does not matter which party you could have picked. Every government over the past 25 years has chopped away at the budgets of "rural" ministries like the MNR, MNRF, MOMF, etc... tokeep the city folks happy. Imagine how pissed urbanites would get if MTO enforcement on the 400 series highways was chopped 2-3%.
