Regretably, the outdoors enthusiast is a minority in this country. Never say never. We could not stop the gun registry. We could not stop the closure of the spring bear hunt. What makes anyone here think we have the political clout to prevent a catch and kill policy?

The idea of population control for the human species is just a simplistic, yet logical, hypothesis. Not to be taken seriously. Same with quick fix solutions of reducing limits or increasing fines. there aren't enough CO's around to effectively enforce current laws. What is needed is proactive resource management. Something the average taxpayer does not want to pay for in Ontario. As long as we destroy spawning areas and habitat, pollute, develop wetland, dam rivers, drain down lakes for our consumption, the fishery suffers. Reduced limits are not going to make up for the damage being done. Increased hatchery outputs might help, but that, too, is just a bandaid approach. Habitat protection and rehabilitation, and spawning ground protection, will achieve superior results. Ensuring that a company like EB Eddy can never again wipe out a fishery with another chemical spill. Stop the development of wetlands. Reduced speed limits in prime shallow water breeding areas. These are proactive ways to help the fishery, but they are expensive.

I've had a good run at life. It's not like I would have a choice if it were done.

No different than 'managing' populations of game and livestock through controlled hunts or culling. Thereby keeping the human populace within a comfortable margin for the food supply. A little Malthus, a little Orwell, a little "Logans Run", and for good measure, some "Soylent Green". Unpleasant, unpalatable and unpopular, but hypothetically possible.

You can be nicked for impaired on a lawn tractor, or a bycycle as well. If you are operating some/any manner of vehicle on a public roadway, or body of water, you have responsibility of care and all the rules of the road apply.

How about limiting the human population instead. Seems even more logical. Hypothetically.

As long as we vote in inept governments, bureauceacies will be just as inept.

Are you suggesting only 1 species per day should be harvested? The limits per species are fine. There are additional limits on size as well with over/under rules for pike and walleye. Truth is fishing has improved substantially since the late 70's in all the areas I fish. Species distribution has change in some areas, and I've learnt to target the more prevalent species as well. Who would dare to admit to fishing carp or catfish back in the 70's? No one.

Figured I'd start the weekend off at the pond again. The Mrs dropped me off at the park with a stern scolding to check in every few hours Another beautiful day out there with not a soul around, except this fellow. This is the first time I've seen a beaver in the pond. He wasn't happy to see me at first, but after 15 minutes he didn't seem to mind. It's good to see them make a comeback in the Niagara region. It was a very busy day with a constant bite from 10am. onward. The minnows are running back to the lake and the perch were in hot pursuit. While I caught lots of perch, this heron was gorging himself on the minnows. It was easily a 100 fish day. In a weeks time the perch should be back in the lake and the primary target in the pond will be cats and carp again. This white perch was huge. Tonights dinner guests.

Today, fishing. Tomorrow, fishing while dodging raindrops. Sunday, time with the Warden Monday, fishing.

We did not mouth off. We rarely talked back. My kid brother told the stepfather to ---- off once when he was 15. It took 20 minutes to pry his head out of the wall. I have paddled both my kids when necessary, and that was rare. Yes they could have called children's aid. I handed them the phone and gave them the choice. "You can live in my house, or you can live in foster homes with complete strangers. You choose."

Don't know where you've been hiding, but teen pregnancy has, again, been on the rise for some time. It just does not have the same stigma attached to it any more. No more 'statutory rape' charges, no more shotgun weddings, no more forced adoptions, No more insinuations of 'dirt' or 'trash' on the girl.

My son had a very close relationship with 'The SPOON'. None of that cheap store bought stuff. Carved from solid cherry, or birdseye maple, with a handle 3/4" thick, they don't break. I carved 3 and I still have 2 of them. He was a good kid too til he was 17. Then he discovered wimmins , and its been a downhill slide ever since.

The public ramp at the narrows is not a good choice for big boats. Narrow, rough, shallow. It's fine for my 16' boat, but not for a big ranger or other 20' boats. What's worse, the ramp fee or the repair bill?

And if you did not like getting 'drugged ' by your parents there was always the 'persuader'. My backside was well "tanned' a few times, back before there were nude beaches

If you go into the fish and wildlife program, what are your goals? Are you taking the course for the job security or a love of the outdoors. Jobs, on graduation, are not plentiful in Ontario. As others have pointed out in previous threads, be prepared to relocate out of province. My neice spent 5 years bouncing around the country before landing a placement in Ontario.

Domestic and wild geese interbreed quite easily. Maybe a little Snow, a little Greylag, a little ?...

Sometimes the bite shuts down on the arm, Switch to slow drifts with white, red or chartreuse harnesses right down to bottom in the 10-14ft depths on the many flats or ledges by the deep channels

Sometimes Ma Nature's show is as enjoyable as the fishing and then some. Only one tiny teeny problem. I was so busy watching the birds I missed twice as many fish as I caught
