  1. Thanks guys ... thats very helpful .. I realized after poking around at LB today that thetransom mount really does need to be at the stern .. there isnt a way (I could see) to hook up a foot pedal ... unless of course you are passing control to the guy at the front ... which I cant see myself doing Much as I feel the 'need' .. I have this feeling it aint gonna happen until I have a more permanent arrangement which includes on board charger Just too much lugging ... besides ... theres something 'old-school' about having to pull the cord every few minutes to control your drift .. or as I often do .. just leave her running in neutral .. and shift gears (fwd/rev) to adjust for the wind ....
  2. Let me start by saying I dont even have a boat ... at least not one that I trailer around ... I typically am on the water for a couple or three days each trip (5 or 6 times a year)... although I do a lot of day trips where I rent a tinny/tiller from a local marina ... but when I go on the water it is often from 5 am to 8 pm ... There are a 'number' of boats that I use over the course of the summer ( inlaws cottage, camp in Quebec, rentals on GBay, Kawarthas etc) ... anyhow I have for some time thought about getting an electric trolling motor for fishing those more 'finesse' occasions when I'd prefer not to paddle but the 9.9 is too noisy (or when I want to drift but need to make adjustments for the wind etc ... But before I do I'd like to hear from you experts on the subject ... as much as I am interested in the relative merits of shaft length, co-pilot, foot pedal etc .... I am really trying to ascertain whether what I am thinking of doing is even advisable at all. I was thinking I would buy a transom mount, battery, charger and maybe the foot-pedal (not sure if you can mount a transom mount at the bow and have 'remote' control with the foot pedal (remember I need to clamp this on to someone elses boat so I cant be drilling holes - all the boats will be ok to clamp on to the gunnels - and I almost always have a downeaster on each side even if only to lean my rod against - so clamping shouldnt be a problem What is really concering me is the business of having to cart battery(s)/charger each time, having to ensure they are properly charged, can it stay in the boat (tinny) overnight or does it HAVE to come in every day , being able to properly secure it to the boat (and should it be a transom mount - do I mount it at the bow or the stern) Also ... because my trip into the mountains is one where there is no access to electricity .. what is the 'normal' life of a fully charged battery (in trolling hours) ... would I need two charged batteries to last me a long weekend ? (Not worried about getting stranded because there will also always be a fully gassed 9.9hp as the main source of power) I am thinking of trolling in shallow water (quietly) and in finer control in wind/bays etc ... perhaps for trolling with fly's on top as well ... I am not too worried about cost here ... its more about making sure it is money well spent... and that I am not trying to do something that doesnt make sense. OK ... so what do you fellas think ???? Let er rip .... make an expert outta me ...
  3. Have a look on Google earth ... just about 1/4 mile north /east - it isnt a pier its is more of a concrete wall running parallel to the channel.
  4. I havent actually fished from that pier (have had some luck nearby from a boat) ... but I have spent an evening here and there a couple blocks away at the govt docks ... pike, musky, pickerel channel, cats, bass, Gar Pike, Ling, ... and ... sometimes ... even salmon ... its a veritable smorgasbord ... You never really know whats gonna take the bait since that is the channel is a transition between the main Gbay and Matchedash bay ... and pretty much everything has to swim past ... just be sure to read the regs ... not everything is open yet ...
  5. The key to catching steelhead in ANY trib is to understand EXACTLY where they are under each condition (light, colour of water, temp, amount of activity from anglers etc) ... then to place your drift so that they literally dnt need to move to inhale your bait .... get that part right and you'll start catching all the fish even when the guy beside you cant get a hookup. The easiest way to do this is to stand (without a rod) over top of a fish for a few hours ... and watch how it moves ... Probably the most important tool on a river besides experience and patience is a good set of polaroids.
  6. Great work TJ ... and thanks for all your commitment over the years !
  7. Does anyone know who makes the trebles you find on the Dartee (also on the Mooselook)
  8. WowDan ... thats one perdy collection ... almost worthy of putting up on a display !
  9. White mooselook (2") with red spots ... and black woolly buggars ... killer in the top 15 feet of the water column from May to mid june ..... and dont be afraid to try both on the same line .. hint hint ...
  10. Thats news to me .. I can walk there and often do ... and almost ALWAYS see people fishing there ... I have never seen anything other than panfish .. and I have never seen or heard of them being told to stop .... but it has never had any appeal to make me want to wet a line ... kinda like needing to go to the other side of your lake to fish .. just too close to home
  11. Limited value when you get " Sorry, no data available for this graph" for the trib you are checking ...
  12. Johnson Silver minnow (weedless 3") with a YELLOW double mister twister - 3 1/2 " .... cast at the shorline from 30 - 50' offshore and hang on tight... oh .. and use a leader
  13. Hmmm .. you might have sometihng there
  14. Liquor in the front ... Poker in the back
  15. Yep ... when I am driving (almost always) ... my rod holder is the one on the port stern side and I am normally sitting sidways (facing the port) ... of course I am watching where I am going but it would be literally looking over my shoulder to see the set up on the starboard side... so I have mounted mine (which is very simliar to yours) .. Humminbird 565 and H20C on a 10" X 14" piece of plywood that can literally sit on the bench across from me ... and can be moved to the floor for higher speed.
  16. Google rocks ... I did a google search for pregnotropic from my BB in my car ... while my wife was at the ATM ... and in 2 seconds it said RICK OBANION ....
  17. yep .. me too ... I would probably prefer to sit on the other side .... but until they make a 'lefty' model.. there really isnt enough room to sit on the port side ...
  18. Nice Job Cliff and Bly ! And .. hey . dont I recognize that ....... err .... um .... darkness on the bank there ...???
  19. I agree 100% ... I bought my Wet Skin suit from CT about 6 years ago and NEVER had a leak of any sort ... ok ... if I leave the hood down I will sometimes get a little trickle down the back of my neck ... wooo just got a shiver thinking about it .... but seriously .. for $135 you WILL NOT get a better suit ... it is quite warm ... which I need when I am fishing in the mountains in spring (in the rain and sleet) ... and most of the time I am sitting/trolling ... never even thought of going in even after 8 solid hours of drizzle ....
  20. I was at Appian Way on Monday ... snuck out ... the ice was about 16" ... and was making new ice all day ... it was about -7 at that time ... no open water at the shoreline except near the bubblers ... be careful out there ...and wear your creeper .. it was like a skating rink out there (by the way .. no hits all day .. came home aroud 3pm cause ... I got too cold
  21. Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true? ! A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it.... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap. Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products. Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake? A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up! Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio? A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc. Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good! Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you? Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach. Q: Is chocolate bad for me? A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best! feel-good food around! Q: Is swimming good for your figure? A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me. Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle? A: Hey! ! 'Round' is a shape! Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. And remember: 'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'
  22. Actually Wayne the rebate maxes out at 1,500 per year .. much less than the work is worth .. trust me .. I have to do it every month .. and the part that bites is they want th emoney EVERY month ..before you collect ... if you cancel a deal you have to APPLY to get your money back .. and that can take 6 months ... painful ! IF the harmonized tax work more like the GST (ie you only hand over the NET of what you take in vs what you pay out) it may actually make my life a little tiny weensy bit easier .. but I agree 100 % its the biggest tax hike in a long time because LOTS of services will suddenly become 8% more expensive ...
