  1. like Shasta said, I wouldn't bother with Cootes, unless you know a spot that's a deeper hole trying around the high level bridge or Valley Inn Rd sounds like a better plan, these are current areas though so be super careful let us know how you do, if you go
  2. yeah, that's what I was thinking, it doesn't make sense were the lakes you were surveying shallower, mesotrophic lakes? I'm going to try to dig up my old limnology book later the bad news about all of this, is now to go ice fishing, besides our graph, we also need a temperature probe and dissolved oxygen meter, Hahaha
  3. last winter, ice fishing, while using a friends aqua view, it had a temperature reading accessory, the water at the hole was around 32 degrees (obviously), surprisingly to me, the temp at 55' was 52 degrees, I found this interesting, I had thought the water was going to be a fairly uniform temperature
  4. Miner's Bay Lodge I spent my summers there as a kid Lots of activities, weekly tournaments (tennis, ping pong, shuffle board, fish derby etc), something going on at rec hall every night (stunt night, movie night, weiner roast etc) can get a dock on Gull Lake for fishing/ boating, plus lots of other Haliburton fishing opportunities, PM me if you have questions
  5. Gull Lake, Haliburton, less than 2 hours from the GTA, comfy, insulated, 2 man hut, lots of room, 7' high, park your car (free) and walk 200 meters, lakers, whitefish and cisco $20 per guy, per day (2 man hut) PM me, or [email protected] thanks Chris
  6. I use the clinch on mono and fluoro palomar on power pro and double uni for PP to fluoro lead (or mono lead) good post, looking forward to other replies
  7. if you are going to the north end, Jacob's on 11 just before Orillia, open at 6, good price and good count
  8. it looks wide open, and cold and windy out there, good for you guys for braving it, looks like it was worth it though and you had a fun day
  9. it's easier to carry the "Peace Pipe" over the portages than cases of beer, these guys are just trying to be practical I guess
  10. nah, not much margin there hot rapalas usually go for about $5, not that I would know or anything
  11. the Fairview CT has a decent selection of Rapala stuff for $4.83 each, pretty good deal, some are usually $12
  12. Wouldn't a tip-up with a single hook and minnow below a split shot be more natural and sensitive to bites rather than a dropshot set up? I can see the advantages of dropshotting from a drifting boat, but ice fishing you're not moving at all and totally vertical never tried it, just curious
  13. when I'm up north or in outdoor situations, people seem friendlier and conversations are better funny, I was sledding to my hut this weekend, some walk on guys were packed up and ready to head off the lake, they were walking while towing a portable hut and sleigh with all their gear through a foot of snow, I stopped about 200 yds away, thinking "should I go over and offer to tow their stuff in and give them a ride in?" I really wanted to help, I'm not in a hurry. I just continued towards my hut. Why- because I thought they would think I was trying to steal stuff (I guess I've spent too much time in the city???) good story Rodelu
  14. me and my wife just watched it, very cool thanks for posting it
  15. I'm sure it's a decent lake, but I think you made the right choice to pass on that idea
  16. I've used Owen before for canoe trip and other stuff but not fishing Where were you thinking of fishing, from the base camp or the Mons Lk outpost?
  17. even so, big specimens and nice fish let us know your opinion on how they taste, I haven't tried one yet
  18. I googled it, Ontario record cisco is 4.33lbs, do you have any pics of yours?
  19. great looking ride FF, I bet you can't wait for spring to arrive now!
  20. I tried that one already, she didn't buy it,
  21. yeah, coleman style 2 burner, the burners are fairly far apart, there was some air drafting in because he hadn't yet piled snow along the bottom of the hut, I'll try to get a picture of the damage up later
  22. you definitely know how to put fish on the ice and in the boat Greg! feel free to PM me the name of those hot lakes (Hahaha)
  23. I filled the tank with water first here's a pic showing the pipe
  24. took the "slush buggy" out to the hut I planned on staying past dark to see if the ling would cooperate so I lit the red neck woodstove a couple lakers before dark a ciscoe too all fish released playing video games like Brian after dark, I had fish regularly chasing the glo spoon, with minimal contact, I'm assuming these were ling, I tried a live minnow too but no takers any ideas or input? I guess they could have just been not very active? they totally stopped coming around about 1.5 hours after dark, and I didn't mark a single fish interesting story- A cottage neighbor puts his hut out last weekend, lights his stove to warm the place, locks the door and goes to town for minnows. He had a 2 burner stove, he assumes 1 burner was lit, the other burner was on but not lit, just spewing propane. BOOM! Somebody heard the blast and saw the fire, they assumed someone was in there, the OPP and the CO soon showed up I was hoping to get a picture for you guys but he brought whats left of the hut home to see if he can repair it
  25. you guys rock! keep the reports coming
