I'm surprised that this came before a NF section! Have people been asking for this section the way people have asked for a NF section in the past? I like the idea a lot as it allows people to choose what they view. I'm just surprised that this came first. Whenever a NF section is mentioned people always say that they come here for a mix of fishing post and NF posts, just seems odd that you would seperate product reviews of fishing related stuff but not segregate completely NF topics. Again I think it's a great idea!

Is it illegal if I catch pike by mistake?
Ben_Daniels replied to juan96's topic in General Discussion
There are definitely brown trout in the canals in the Toronto Islands, I've seen groups of them chasing bait. I wouldn't say that there are enough to legitimately go out and target them though, you would probably catch more Pike when targeting trout in there IMO. If I were you I'd hold off fishing the Islands until Pike opens, much better places to target trout than the islands anyway. -
Here's another one

Here's some articles showing that states with higher gun ownership have lower gun homicides and crime rates. Also that countries with higher gun ownership have lower crime/homicide rates. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/02/12/U-N-Maps-Show-U-S-High-In-Gun-Ownership-Low-In-Homicides http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/03/07/gun-violence-study-chicago/1969227/ http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jan/24/states-crime-rates-show-scant-linkage-to-gun-laws/?page=all

They're in the Toronto Islands, I've caught a few using bass lures. They put up a GREAT fight. You can see them guarding schools of fry in the spring, cool thing to see. They also have awesome colors when they're spawning!

Just came across the sad news that Doug Hannon: The Bass Professor has passed away. He invented the weedless trolling motor prop and a bunch of other fishing products. Sad day for the bass fishing community. I remeber meeting him at a young age and he was really a great guy. I also learned today that he was born in Canada. He caught more than 800 bass over 10lbs. http://www.wired2fish.com/legendary-inventor-angler-doug-hannon-passes-p18084 http://www.bassmaster.com/news/doug-hannon-dead-66 Heres a few of my favorite videos he made: http://www.youtube.com/embed/mGjKcFcaT2M?list=UUynoqKmKns_8D8f6GPQ7YNA "http://www.youtube.com/embed/Le0CAyCofXY?list=UUynoqKmKns_8D8f6GPQ7YNA

They have both at my local LCBO in Toronto. Try searching the LCBO's website for locations that carry either. If you can't find some locally you can ask your local store to have some sent over from another LCBO.

Sailor Jerry is my favorite. Followed by Kraken and Appleton reserve. Mt. Gay XO is also pretty good

There's a video on youtube of a guy casting a chicken carcass and a musky snashes it boatside. Won't post the link cause there's an f-bomb or two in it. Google "musky chicken carcass"

Reddit is awesome, check it out. Has a fishing subsection as well.

Having been a bartender for the better part of a decade, it seems like my work experience might actually be relevant on OFC for once, lol! No need to use a high quality vodka like Grey Goose when making a Ceasar... mixing vodka with Clamato, Worcestershire, tobacco, salt, pepper etc you wont notice the quality of the vodka at all. If you plan to drink a lot then you will have less of a hangover with high quality booze but the taste will not change much. I see a Ceasar as an aperitif/appetizer...load it up with some bacon, a spicy bean, a shrimp, celery or anything else! Ive even seen them with a full slider burger as a garnish. Granville Island has some great beer! I love eggnog and rum but only one or two...the nog doesn't seems to sit well in my stomach after a few drinks. Sailor Jerry is great rum as well! My current favorite Christmas drink is Wiser's spiced whiskey or lambs black sheep rum with apple cider, a little lemon juice and some Cinnamon simple syrup(just boil some sugar, water and cinnamon sticks until it is syrupy) garnished with a cinnamon stick which is great for stirring the drink.

This is all I can think reading a lot of the replies in this thread...

My advice would be to not ask for any advice or info on trib fishing on this message board. Its sad but for whatever reason people coming and asking for advice tends to bring out arguments amongst a couple of members. Try to google search what you're looking for because it never ends up well here. Sucks that's legit fishing questions can't be asked on here without it going sour.

This report truly put a smile on my face! Thanks for posting, it reminds me of trips up north with my two brothers, Mom and Dad. You will remember this for a lifetime!

I just got back from a friends cottage in the Land O Lakes area. We had a good couple days and caught a few nice fish. I posted last week asking about where to buy leeches for a decent price. On Gaspumper’s recommendation I went to Marion’s in Havelock. It’s a great little bait shop with a good selection and good prices. The woman running the place was very friendly. I really like little places like this as opposed to Canada Tire, BPS etc. Thanks for the tip Gaspumper! Onto the fishing. I caught these two Smallies and countless other small ones fishing leeches on bottom around submerged rock piles. Unfortunately the Walleye were nowhere to be found. I got all the Largies on a green pumpkin flipping jig and trailer in shallow areas with a mix of stumps and weeds. I saw this guy swim under a stump right in front of the dock so I grabbed a rod and pitched a jig right in front of him, he chomped it up right away Also caught a couple little Pike and Perch but didn’t take any pics of them. Cheers guys, -Ben

Look up the 3-2-1 method or "Texas Crutch". I'd skip the brine if you're smoking.

I'm heading up to a friends cottage a little north of Tweed next week. Last time I was up there leeches were really expensive. Does anyone know where I can buy leeches in bulk for a decent price somehwere between Toronto and Tweed? Any help would be appreciated! -Ben

Without much research I bought a 4000 Shimano reel because I assumed that the larger spool would give me more feet of line retrieved per turn of the handle. Which it does but only by 2 inches http://www.basspro.com/Shimano-Symetre-Front-Drag-Spinning-Reels/product/102360/90736 . In retrospect I wish I had gotten the 2500.

Not quite sure where you can find Vernor's, but I know its the oldest soda pop still being made, dates back to the 1800's

Sarcasm tends to work better in real life as opposed to a messageboard

Recent Psychology research also shows that smart people are more susceptible to cognitive bias/taking mental shortcuts when they draw conclusions... aka smart people are dumb, need I say more. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/frontal-cortex/2012/06/daniel-kahneman-bias-studies.html
