Cool report as always Solo, Thanks for sharing! -Ben

In the short term you might wanna try a job serving or bartending, good money to make with your good people skills, get cash every night and not work long shifts....just an idea until you get something more solid. -Ben

Another 40 lb from Lake - Year of the PIGS
Ben_Daniels replied to siwash's topic in General Discussion
Hearing about all these 40's is making me think I should invest in some real Salmon pier chucking gear! -Ben -
I don't know much about the Niagara but your boat looks really sturdy! The thought of hitting any part of the Great Lakes in a smaller boat still scares ME. (I'm pretty inexperienced with boats) -Ben

I recently picked up a Shimano crankin rod for pretty cheap, it's a 7'0 ML-Fast Bob Izumi series. Its around $70 new but I found one for $25 still in the wrap so I had to get it!Gonna spool up my new Citica with some 10 lb mono and try it out on Sunday, I'll tell ya how it goes! -Ben

Somethin about those old guys in funny hats and little cars makes me really happy

That's Awesome! I didn't even know you were a member here Mike. Love the show!!! If you're ever in downtown T.O. again in the spring I'm sure you could get an awesome show fishing for Pike in the Toronto Islands right by downtown...I'd be happy to be your shore fishing guide! ...40 inch Pike from shore..... -Ben

Yea...Im looking for a bass style crank that I can fish fairly fast and aggressively for largies and smallies pretty deep...I haven't done much cranking in my life but I'm gonna put some time in this summer. -Ben

That made me laugh -Ben

Thanks for your input on everything!!! I think I'm gunna keep the Citica after your advice and reading tackletour... since I'm not using it for bigger baits and the handles are the same size as the Cruxis's that I'm used to, I think it will be great, I just didn't realize the small price differences between it and the curado when I initially bought it. Definitely true that almost no crankbaits runs true out of the package. Living down south for most of my life I've also heard great things about the Norman DD22's, too bad I can't get em at the tackle shops up here. -Ben

Ive got a TON of X-raps in most colors, along with a lot of husky jerk's... their the only two rapalas that I've seen the need to spend money on. I stood in Bass Pro today holding the live taraget perch's for a good 10 min cause they look so good, but I don't think that the detail is worth the money, also they don't have really deep diving cranks...15 FOW+ -Ben

Really? I might go back tomorrow so I guess I should exchange em. They were $7 crankbaits so I expect them to run true! I heard they're good cranks that do run true, I don't mind swapping the hook out....what cranks should I go for? I hate paying the price for rapala's (whih I don't think are good at all) or lucky crafts and as far as deep cranks go, these were the only ones they had in the colors I wanted. They didn't have that great a selection. -Ben

I haven't caught any fish on the rage craws in the past year fished them, but they look so good in the water I had to buy some more. I love the sexy shad color... a natural looking bait with a little chartreuse was a winner for me last year. I cant wait to get out bass fishing next week. -Ben

When I was using 30lb PP with my rod tip high and a 5/0 EWG Superline hook the frog spinned like a mepps, I wasn't worried about the line on the water though...maybe that was the problem, Mono sounds like a good idea though since it floats, so I'm thinking it would probably help. I shouldn't worry about it rolling over? really? It pisses me off seeing the baits rolling around lol, thats why I gave up. -Ben

In the hour since I've posted this I already have buyers remorse....why didn't I spend the extra $60 and get a Curado? ... I guess thats why the price points are where they are, to make me buy a curado, Should I go back tomorrow and exchange?

That's awesome! I pondered sending him a pm on his messagebaord to see if he wanted to try some TO Pike fishing, never got around to it. He seems like an awesome guy and I really like his show, despite what others say, The quaintness and simplicity of his show really goes a long way in my opinion, Really does remind me of myself going fishing! I really like that he appears to know less than he does and lets the guest on his show talk! I'm a regular watcher! -Ben

Nice one!...my float tube I bought 3 years ago is yet to see water ...still haven't got around to buyin those waders either lol -Ben

I know! I was gonna take it easy...$300 later

Went up to Bass pro to get some stuff for bass season, ended up buying a new citica for my crankbait rod, I can't believe how much smaller it is compared to the older models, sweet! Also got a bunch of spinnerbaits, crankbaits, some flukes, and some other soft plastics. -Ben

When I tried fishing the yum buzz frogs they kept rolling over and spinning and drove me nuts so I gave up. prolly cause I was using braid instead on mono, Good Tips Gary! -Ben
