Do you mean the games or the bloody commercial? I believe that TSN has exclusive tv rights to broadcast the games in Canada. The XM satellite radio feed I was listening to just seemed to be the audio from the TSN television coverage.

I had to drive to NYC and back yesterday, so I spent 11 hours in the car. I listened to both the CAN-SUI game and the USA-SWE game on XM satellite radio. If I have to hear TSN's "Written by a Canadian, voted on by you, Hockey Canada's EH-O, CANADA-GO, cheer is spreading from coast to coast" commercial one more time, I'm gonna shoot myself. The most ridiculous thing ever!

I know we all dream of such a thing, but what you said kind of epitomizes the problems we are facing in the future with land development, water rights, and public access issues. If everyone who could, did what you said, there would be no natural, wild lands or waters left, and the little that did remain, would be privately owned like your dream. Not a good scenario.

You have a point there. I really think the IIHF should change the rules to some other format, so the good teams don't have to run up the score and embarass the teams that aren't so talented. As you pointed out, I'd hate for Canada to lose out in a tie-breaker, because they exercised some judgement against a hockey-poor country like Latvia and didn't run up the score, but Russia or the US did. I didn't mean to say that Canada was purposely embarassing Latvia. They were only doing what they had to do. And yes, they were working out the bugs and kinks of their own system in preparation of the US, and Russia or Sweden if it comes to that. All I was saying was that it's kind of embarassing to watch it, when the Latvians are obviously trying so hard, but just can't do anything against us. It must be frustrating for them. Hopefully, as someone else said, hopefully it will make them a better team.

Just watched the first game of the World Juniors. Canada won 16-0. Shots on goal were something like 70-10. I think I remember reading that in the case of ties in standings, goal differentials are used. But seriously, did we need to embarass Latvia that bad? Maybe Team Canada should have just sat off the ice for the 3rd period and let Latvia take shots on our goalie. The Latvian goalie looked totally exhausted and crushed by the end of the game. I kinda felt sorry for him.

I have a $37,000 Ranger Reata 1850 with a Honda 150hp, I bought new in 2005. My insurance is $160 for the whole year, with Total Replacement Coverage, and $500,000 liability. With TRC, if I total my boat when it's 10 or 15 years old, I get what I paid for it, not what it's current blue book value is.

I don't think that it's wiggling action you're looking for, it's the scent of live bait. Panfisherman use waxies and grubs impaled on small jigs for perch, bluegill and crappie, and they don't wiggle at all. Small red worms I think would work well for panfish .... (and the occasional bass is likely to smack it too!).

QUOTE (Roy @ Dec 8 2009, 08:45 PM) here's the story... http://ionelectric.tripod.com/_disc11/00000044.htm He obeyed an order to kneel with his hands above his head. The pathetic pistolman couldn't even look Thomas in the eye as he fired a bullet into his neck from behind. You see this in the movies, and read about it happening in real life in the papers, and the one thing I've never understood is why people who are obviously about to die, comply with the "get on your knees so I can easily shoot you" order. It seems like they just accept their fate. Obviously, none of us know what would be going through one's own mind at that point, but I can't help but think that if I was in that situation, I would turn and attempt to fight for me life, whether the *sshole had a gun pointed at me or not. At least that way, the outcome isn't so certain ...

As someone correctly pointed out, "chain pickerel" is a member of the pike (Esocid) family. The other members are northern pike, muskie, and redfin pickerel, which is also known as "grass pickerel". So, chain pickerel and grass pickerel are two different fish, but both are from the pike family. Chain pickerel have the distinctive chain-link markings down their sides (which is where they get their name), whereas northern pike generally have bean-shaped white dots. Chain pickerel usually max out in size at around 5-6 pounds. Redfin (grass) pickerel, max out in size well under a pound. They only get 10-12 inches in length. Their colouration is very dark as well, with wavy vertical bars down their sides. As you can see from the pictures below, the difference is distinct. Also, someone asked about "crossbreeds". Chain pickerel definitely hybridize naturally with northern pike. Because both species spawn at apprpoximately the same time and use the same general areas of a lake, milt from one species will sometimes drift through the water and fertilize eggs from the other. The genetic assessments we've done recently seem to indicate that predominately it is milt from male chain pickerel fertilizing northern pike eggs. The result is something that would confuse even the best anglers in fish ID, where light vertical bars, interspersed with dots, appear down the sides of the fish. Here is a series of pics I took showing a northern pike, a pike-pickerel hybrid, and an actual chain pickerel, for comparison ... Top Fish - Northern Pike Middle Fish - Northern Pike - Chain Pickerel Hybrid Bottom Fish - Chain Pickerel And here is a picture of a bigger hybrid pike-pickerel that I caught on a rod and reel. .... And finally, here's a picture of a redfin pickerel, at about the maximum size that they get. It was caught through the ice by an angler, who sent me the picture, wondering what it was that he caught! What's your preferred species to target through the ice?

Fish & Wildlife '88-'91. The greatest program they offer, in my opinion, and one that started me well on my way to the career in fisheries management I have today. Career Path

Canadian Fishing Community Survey
lhousesoccer replied to Roninramirez's topic in General Discussion
Any statistically valid survey on angling and hunting has a breakdown on social values such as race, age, income bracket etc. Participation and response rates can be broken down and analyzed by those brackets. It's Standard Operating Procedure. -

Awesome fishing, even better photography and manipulation. Did you say you made all those with Adobe Photoshop? I have it, but only really use it for resizing, removing red eye ... simple stuff like that. I would love to learn how to do some of the things you did with these images! Are there built-in tools? Or do you piece them together by hand? My favourite is the brookie split into 14 smaller pics that make up the one larger pic.

If you don't mind me asking, do you rent the 9242 or own it? I want to buy one, but can't find it for less than $600! I did hear of someone who picked one up during a short, unadvertised sale for $299 .... that's more my price range ....

Dave524 ... I do the same thing when there's a game on at the same time as a regular weekly show we like to watch, but the only way we can watch the avi file is on my laptop. How do you watch yours?

WELL SAID!! That's exactly the reason why people should get immunized. Not to protect themselves, but to protect their loved ones ....

Mike ... glad to see you're sticking to your guns and following my advice. I built up nearly a 2-page list of volunteer Fish & Wildlife activities on my resume over the years while I gained experience to finally get the Fisheries Scientist job I have now. The volunteer work opened a ton of doors and got me many summer seasonal PAID jobs with the OMNR, OFAH, Environment Canada and so on. Keep at it!

I love the fish finder pic. What model is that? I have a couple 102c units on my boat. I get decent readings like yours on my console, but can't get the bow graph dialed in. It's hooked to a minn kota universal sonar transducer. Maybe that's the problem. I was out the other day and my console graph was showing lots of archs, pods of bait and bottom structure, and my bow graph was like it was on another lake. Can't figure it out. Anyways, you say the smallies were "right where they were supposed to be". Obviously 25 feet down, based on your pic, but other than that, what were you fishing? A big flat adjacent to a dropoff? Bait balls? Just curious. Did you dropshot the fish? Nice job!

Outside of the spring catch-and-release season where I live, the fall is my favourite time once the water temps get down into the mid-50's. The bass will crush any big moving fast. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits - the fishing is fun this time of year. And, the lakes are quite, and colours are on, most everyone else is off hunting. What more could you ask!??! Nice bass!
