This is probably what is going on, when the cow moose comes into esterus it chases away the calph and goes looking for the Bull, I think this is natures way of keeping calph moose away from horny rutting Bulls. After the cycle the two will reunite.

what to do when there is hunters on the pond????/skunked fishing
canadadude replied to skinny's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, not enough for a violation unless you prove he is there with the intent to disrupt the hunt. -
what to do when there is hunters on the pond????/skunked fishing
canadadude replied to skinny's topic in General Discussion
To be charged with interfering with a hunt stoping to talk to a hunter would not be considered a flagrant enough violation. To be carged with interfering in a hunt the person charged has to show intent, in other words the CO needs evidence that the violators intent was to disrupt a hunt, simply chatting with a hunter is not. On the other hand if you follow a hunter around and harass the hunter, this may be evidence enough for an interference charge. -

Thats not true you are allowed to stop and talk with a hunter, there is no CO in Ontario that will charge you license or not. To be charged with illegaly being part of the hunt the officer will need sufficient evidence to prove you were involved. Just talking with a hunter is not grounds enough to be charged with participation. Anyway guys, we're usually done the hunt by 9:00 am at the latest, so cut us some slack during the short waterfowl season we'll be outa the way soon enough. The days we get an all day flight are days you don't want to be out there fishing, it needs to pretty nasty out to have the birds moving all day. -
Ringwood Hatchery Chinook Egg Collection
canadadude replied to CLofchik's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps you should give a thankyou to the wonderful Soo Michigan USA biologists and the University of Soo Michigan for 20yrs of painstaking reaserch and millions of $$$$$$$ to create a somewhat established fishery. May I also say without the continued work of an entire University reserch staff this re-established fishery is doomed to die off, like every other Atlantic re-established fishery in the Great Lakes has. -
The cows shooo away the calfs just before and during the rut, moma must have given this guy the boot so she can go out and find Bullwinkle for some fun!!!1

Ringwood Hatchery Chinook Egg Collection

A true MNR biologist in the making, god help recreational fishing in this province. Don't these dudes get it we are paying the bills, your salaries, and getting next to nothing for our $$$$ from the all mighty MNR biologists. -
I can attach the elastic faster then the snap weight and when your Buddy, girlfriend or novice fisher reals the snap weight to the tip of the rod and snaps the weight off into the drink bye bye . Besides I catch better with the elastics. We all have our methods, what ever works for you, I havn't used traditional snap weights in 10yrs

I know Italo gets permission to fish the maid of the mist docks and film down there, is he trespassing? NO, he gets permission from the ownership to do this. Lots of Steelhead shows are filmed on private lands and such but these fishers get permission to do so. I guess it's one of the " Perks" you get for having a succesfull T.V show

Resent egg collection has gone on for ringwood hatchery, eggs and sperm are collected the fish are sliced and thrown back in the river, not all the carcasses may from unethical anglers, unfortuntatly if we want a Salmon fishery we must do egg collection. It will be all over soon boys and trouting will begin.

Those snap weights are good but a cheaper and I think better way to run is use elastic bands instead of the expensive snaps, just loop the weight on the elastic, run out 30'-50' of line put the elastic over the line pull the weight through the loop and tighten it on, when a fish is on simply break the elastic, it slips off the line and fight the fish in the rest of the way. I've had better success using this method on Lake Erie then with conventional snap weights, in the rougher water the elastic ubsorbs the bounce of the heavy lead. Chain bead weights work very good in calm water, use a heavy enough weight so your line runs at a 45' angle off the board line, I find you don't need to put near as much line out to get to the strike zone.

I use a camera flash, to get a duller glow I'll put a couple of fingers over the flash when I charge the lure. I also somtimes will put my thumb on the spoon then flash it this leaves a dark spot on the spoon and only the edges of spoon glow. I've caught alot of chinnies on the first cast of fully charged spoon so I don't know if bright or dull makes a huge difference, it's fun to experiment though. Everytime I think I got the answer, the next time I go out is always a whole new ball game

Thats how Male brownies look in full spawn colours, and yes they do beat themselves up alittle during the spawn. by the way nice fish

The final word on Lake Ontario Trib salmon

The famous MNR bull crap statement, it never changes perhaps the MNR should enhance fishing and hunting, since these are the groups paying the bills. Besides the so called special interest groups are the one's responsible for enhancing the provincial fisheries, it surely isn't the MNR, in fact there more of deterent then helpfull -

I don't get it dudes this isn't rocket science, the salmon crap has gone for years and the stinking MNR turns a blind eye. I don't want to here anymore excuses like funding and other priorities get down there and bust people, do your freaking job quit cying and whining and show the public your worth somthing. For the last 20yrs the MNR whines abotu this crap, we give you money get off your ass and do somthing instead of whinning. I work for the MNR and I know these stinking CO"s are just sitting the office laughing at this post, you really think they give a crap hahahahaha -
I fill my tubes up with the mustad pheramone Charlie's crap and it works when the Bass are biting short, I buy the tube stuff like toothpaste and squirt it in the tube, it lasts along time and it dosn't hurt the bite.

I did in fact work for the MNR for 5yrs as a forestry tech, graduated SSFC 82, the MNR is very good at knocking the passion for the job outa you quickly tough for private retailers to rip off the government for liscences each sale is recorded in the book and the monnies are collected -

25 minutes is a long fight but maybe not if it's your first pier king, the more you hook-up the better you get at handling these freight trains. Everyone you latch on to is still a huge thrill, I got a nice big hen last week as I was falling asleep dreaming of fishing some where else, it woke me up quick -

The MNR is also funded through Provincial Parks, Campsites, day use fees ect so in away others do contribute. Also forestry companies pay big time in stumpage fees aswell as minning companies pay for the use of provincial lands although I'm not sure if the MNR gets these $$$$$. Perhaps a completly different ministry that just dealt with fisheries and hunting may be a smarter way to go and possibly alittle more accountable to the fishers and hunters of the province -

I wouldn't give the MNR another cent, they already waste what monnies I give them in Liscences. There a joke from the Biologists on down. Dumping more money into an already useless ministry is just a bigger waste I don't understand why the MNR does nothing with such flagrant violations going on in the few salmon tribs in the GTA, I've herd enough about the lack of CO's, they seem to get 6 or 7 of them to do Blitzes in Niagara every summer, they also get a bunch to police the commercial harvest on lake Erie. A couple of blitzes 2 weeks during the salmon run is all it will take to drasticly cut down on the circus going on right now. Come on MNR do somthing right instead of continually flushing away the $$$$$$$ you get now and stop crying about funding. -

Now your hooked, it pays to invest in a long handle net for pier fishing, my net telescopes out to just over 12'. be carefull when you net a big fish lift it straight up don't try to scoop it or you'll bend the net. -
I like this idea, but like I said in another thread, this should be like Christmas for the CO's with all the violations going on there's tons of fine $$$$$$$$ to be had. Get out there CO's enjoy the violation harvest, fill up your ticket books and reap the rewards of the zoo.
-
Not much leg work needed at Bronte, that spot gets bombarded with everything and anything since the first run of salmon began on Lake Ontario. Same crap every year, I would think all law enforcement agencies already know of the zoo down there by now. I would think the MNR would be down there doing sting operations regularly if they want to put $$$$$$$ into there budget, there's a ton of money to be made. I've never seen more violations then on the tribs during salmon season, it's a CO gold mine. Get out there CO's fill up your violation books and ensure yourselves of a job. I would think Salmon season would be like Christmas for you guys.
