My buddy is truck driver and he always chalks the wheel before launching the boat, I always thought this was going overboard but after seeing this I think now he is a pretty smart dude.He says it's just a habit for him to do this and I think it's a good habit to get into! You just never no, and if something lets go and your behind the tow vehicle a much worse outcome may happen. Chalking your tires is mandatory at shipping docks perhaps it should be on ramps aswell -
Surprise another geneticly man-made rainbow from diefenbaker, I don't think these fish should qualify for world records since they are altered geneticly to grow huge! They will never spawn and never produce young of the same quality, there just man-made freaks

Gary may owe you a thankyou, he placed 2nd in the tourny

Another productive technique,I started using on Northern shield lakes is planner boards, snap weights and harnesses or cranks. Trolling for suspended fish over deep water especially if there is a good chop on the water. It's much the same as the boys use on Lake Erie, this technique works good during mid-day periods and at this time of year, August always seems to be the best when going for suspended walleye, taught a few locals how well this worked on Lake Temiscaming, they seem to think the eyes don't eat in August hahahaha.

you are so full of crap uglie the winters in the 30,40 and 50 yrs back were no different then what we are enjoying now, the only difference is the bullcrap we tell our kids , like this cold front we have today in 10 or 15 years the parents will be telling there kids how cold it was and how much snow there was
-

Stoped by Pete's tackle here in St Catharines, and they have 1 Vex fl20 pro pack on for $450 which I thought was a good deal, this unit has all the bells and whistles and 450 for an fl 20 is a good deal!!! I Used an ole fl8 for years and it was a great unit and I've heard and read all the crap about whats best for the ice. Me I'm a vex guy. but I don't doubt the other units on the market, the most important tip I give the ice fisher is get a sonar of any make it really dosn't matter as long as you have instant message to you, Marcum, Vexilar. Lowrence who cares!

Thats SWEEEEEEEEEEET EATING hahahhahah.......nothing better then winter smelties for the frying pan, gotta do a ramies bend trek soon hahahahha

We got the gohead for pens in Port Dalhousie, and we got a sweet area for them, right now it's for chinny's but I only hope browns and steelies will follow!!! I'm a shore fisher but I like the idea of pens to get a chiiny fishery off our port good going to all involved

Years back 98/99 we had some albino deer down in Port Colbourne/ Wainfleet area and I was lucky enough to see these animals it was truelly a site to behold, for anyone that gets the chance to see an albinoe animal it really is a gift from the creator and truelly a beautiful site!!!

I agree and I do apologise to fishmaster( Steve) he is one of the best charter dudes and in fact fishers I've met, and I do recomend his business to anyone!! Steve goes out of his way %100 to anyone using his services and if anyone is looking to get fish spring/ summer/ winter go see Steve in Dunnville or St Catharines for salmon the dude knows fish. We may at times not see eye to eye on fisheries managment I do have much respect for this guy and his passion for the outdoors, Steve is a strait shooter and I always enjoy his input on any topic wether I agree or not is always up for grabs hahahah! The man is however a great Sportsman weather hunting or fishing he does care and is master of all outdoor sports he persues, if you get a chance to visit his store or fish with him, you will not be dissapointed
-
Sorry not to get on your case Steve because I know it is business for you but I think to keep a good Rainbow population alive in Lake Ontario we do need some changes to the way the fishery is managed. Perhaps I may have gone alittle to far in my comments towards your industry and I appologise, but I do feel somthing needs to be done because the returns are getting worse every year. You dudes may have not noticed it out when your chartering but us trib fishers have noticed the decline. I can speak from both areas I owned a boat and fished Lake O for over 20 yrs I know how it was in the 80's, 90's and now I trib fish and the stocks of fish entering our tribs is dying!!! There is a problem instead of whining , lets get on board to solve the diwindling stocks!!
-
There you go boys the charter fishers example of sustainable fishery, " If we can kill 40 a day there must be lots" and when they can't kill any " what happened to the fishery" you dudes have the same atitude as the comercials yet you bad mouth them! The simple fact is the fishery at the point it is now is not sustainable, the charters and the the fishers have found the blue zone where the steelies for years lived and thrived unharmed and now are pressured and the #'s returning to the tribs are low! Hey I don't have all the answers but it is clear there is a problem with dwindling stocks!! So charter dudes keep going out killing you only cutting your own throats, but hey your making a buck and thats the real reason you fish, the joy and respect for the fishery has long gone over your heads, the fishery don't mean squat to you dudes unless you can make some $$$$$
-
Some great points made on both sides of the issue, but I think the main concern is having a " Sustainable Fishery" this the most important goal that should be reached. If it means slots, reduced limits or what ever it takes to achieve this, this should be the goal to achieve in managing any species in our Lakes.I think for the health of the fishery somthing needs to done, because at the levels of pressure the Steelies are facing right now a collapse of the population is just around the corner.
-
Well I know what your saying these charters are going out in the "Blue Zone" all summer and smoking 40+ steelies aday and us trib fishers are getting the left overs. Not only are #'s down but size aswell, I'm lucky because Port D has a good brown run every year and there around all winter and they are not heavilly targeted out in the lake so even though the stocking #'s aren;t great a good population returns!!! We did have some chromies come in Nov. but since then they must have gone back out our area is limited and they can't make it up further into the trib, they will go back out into the lake, but it just seems every year the #'s decline by about 10%.
-
Been drifting Port D the last week and the water has been dirty and the fishing slow. Just before the big thaw the Brownies were smoking streamers but for the last couple of weeks the fishing has all dried up. The water is getting cleaner and tuesday I got a 5lb brownie on a pink roe bag and my buddy fishing minnow got 3 Brownies. My problem is the lack of Steelhead this year running the 12 mile creek, there is usually a good run of winter rainbow in the harbour at this time and I hope the only problem is the dirty water. The thing is the water is getting the nice green tinge with a foot or more visibilty and still no winter steel not quite sure whats going on but this is a continueing trend here perhaps a 2 fish limit out in the blue zone for steelhead is in order. I know for a fact the charter capatains are grabing 40+ steelhead aday in August out there and the rapage is showing up big time in our local fishery
-
that walleye looks hungry, does not look like a sweet 16 there may be a bait fish problem on the lake
-
Port Dalhuosie off the pier fishing into the Marina cast Spinner baits, Spoons even jig 4" ruber minnows hahahah lots of 5lb pikies and the odd muskie living in there ! Oh ya big ole Rapala twiched just right willl get the pikies hitting
-
I remember that one you had it build it form a kit , thats about the same time I bought a green box remeber those old ones, good ole flashers would be perfect for ice fishers hahahaha, lowerence made the green box I think
-
Don't listen to all the crap about which unit is best, any flasher will give you all the info you need , I use an still do an old vex fl8 and it gives me all the info I need when ice fishing, I sorta laugh out loud when I see these dudes arguing over vex... marcum.and such all you need is a flasher to mark your presention and your 90% better then fishing blind. Just get a unit that will pick up your presentation and your good to go

So thats what the "X" is doing now........ shouldn't have brought her out ice fishing -
Buy a 3hp jiffy and you'll never have to buy anything else, I've had mine over 25yrs it's a workhorse one or two pull machine. I've blown up 2hp machines drilling in warm weather but the 3hp goes on forever. Sure some of the competitors are faster with all kinds of bells whistles but the old 3hp never lets me down no matter how cold or how deep the ice is and the thing will probably out last me.
