  1. Just a sec... Wasn't a muskie killer recently charged and convicted just on the basis of video evidence from another angler? Pretty sure that's what happened. So start taking pictures and video, getting as many details as you can of faces, license plates, etc., and pass them on.
  2. Very, if you're me. 22 years ago I bought an inexpensive Shimano combo up in Huntsville, because I decided that it was time to get back into fishing after years away. We had a few days at Algonquin so it was put to use immediately. Well, last year at Killarney that faithful old FX2652A finally bit the dust, but it died a hero after getting some nice fish, including my first ever lake trout. My Pflueger was called into action, but I almost cried over losing a faithful companion. Replacement time, and I didn't want anything other than another inexpensive Shimano to mate with the FX2000 reel (never had a lick of maintenance, still works fine). Poking around Sail in Oshawa the other day rewarded me, a Shimano S-66MB2 for the princely sum of $17. Rod and reel have been mated, and they sit in the car waiting for their first adventure. Might head out later for some crappie, if there's open water. Because FISHING!
  3. That was a stinker last night. But enough about pitching, let's talk Pillar. He's played himself onto this team, so who goes down to the Queen City when Saunders returns? Hendricks? No loss there IMHO, he hasn't been great, in fact he hasn't even been good.
  4. Here's the 2015 regulations. Mods, we really need to get this posted and pinned. http://docs.ontario.ca/documents/3981-2015-english-fishing-regulations-summary.html#document/p1
  5. First base? Find a guy who can do anything but throw, when does a first baseman ever need to do that? Probably less than anyone else on the team. But I want the other four skills in abundance.
  6. I book at least two Provincial Park spots per year, and as far as I know it's five months for all parks.
  7. Why should you care? It isn't your money. Unless a highly paid player (or highly paid anyone, for that matter) whines about not making enough, it's between them and whatever owner signed the contract.
  8. Does anyone know how long it takes to roll up that turf and lay it down again? They must have done it when they held monster truck shows, there's no way they would put a load of dirt on top of it. If it doesn't take long, why can't they have natural grass, and lay the turf over top for things like football games? Covering natural grass for a day shouldn't kill it.
  9. Dickey and Buerhle aren't the kind of pitchers who will win games, but they'll keep you in one. It's the job of the batters to step up to the plate and do their best to put some runs on the board.
  10. I'm cautiously optimistic. But with all the young fireballers in the rotation and bullpen, there's one pitcher's name I hope we don't hear: Tommy John.
  11. And here's Oshawa Harbour:
  12. Here's a map I've had for a while that shows the limits of FMZ 20 with regard to Whitby Harbour:
  13. It seems that people are constantly asking for info on the regulations, so why not have a link to the 2015 Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary? https://www.ontario.ca/document/2015-ontario-fishing-regulations-summary
  14. Man, I screwed that one up royally. It's more complicated than I said, but I didn't bother reading past the bold face. Here's a copy of what's in the 2015 regulations:
  15. As of right now, Grenadier Pond is still open for fishing: http://www.highparknature.org/wiki/wiki.php?n=Fish.FrontPage Never heard of Aerowana Provincial Park, can't find any reference on the net. Bow fishing is only allowed for bowfin, carp, smelt, white sucker, lake whitefish, and lake herring, although they are all lumped under "non-angling methods" along with dip nets, seine nets, and spears. Can't see anyone seriously going after smelt with a bow or a spear. And I imagine that the ministry wouldn't have the last word on where one can use a bow, local authorities might ban their use.
  16. There are no doubt many different ways. Do a Google search for 'fish egg dispersal' and you'll find all sorts of info.
  17. Article about how we anglers are contributing: http://mudinspired.com/blog/the-role-of-recreational-fishing-in-environmental-conservation/
  18. In my 45 years of filing taxes I have never had one that wasn't adjusted up or down by the folks in Ottawa. That tells me that they go over every single claim in detail, and making corrections, which probably takes more time than most of us spend on filling in the form. Which begs the question: why do we bother? Just send them our T-4 slip, and other necessary documentation, and they can figure it out. Hell, they're probably paid much more than I am, let them earn it.
  19. I like them on a weighted hook.
  20. That's good news.
  21. I'll be using mine, but any fish that destroys one will get a very stern talking to.
  22. Yep, and it seems to be a fully mature one in breeding plumage. A lot of them have grey feathering around the head, but I can't see any on that one. Excellent picture.
  23. Dacron is pretty tough, hang-gliders are covered in it.
