The danger of extinction is always present when you 'over specialize' like a magazine that focuses on pro walleye tourneys. Hopefully we'll see the writers and photographers re-surface in other publications and enjoy their work there. I love fishing mags!

I dunno bigugli, I think a fish like that goes a long way to take the sting out of a disasterous trip, eh? Congratulations on everyone's perseverance in the face of sunburns, wind, mosquitos, etc. Enjoy supper!

I'm used to seeing pics of Simcoe lakers and whities during the ice fishing season, so it's nice to see the soft water versions! Nice job and beauty fish!

I remember a while ago someone posted that Mepps 'Comet' spinners allow you to screw off the treble and add the hook of your choosing to it. Just another option.

Now, that's what a charter fishing trip is all about! Good fishing and some good friends. Thanks for sharing that adventure, right down to the great looking meal you prepared!!! Cheers! -
Ya, several years ago, Shimano and other manufacturers saw carp fishing as a growth market and began making lots of specialty carp equipment. It was also reflected on tv fishing shows where you'd see the hosts fishing carp for the first time, in their effort to satisfy their sponsors of course. Althought carp fishing may still not be as popular among Canadians as other types of fishing, the fruits of their labour seem to have paid off because I see waaaaay more people carp fishing now with specialized gear, carp pods, etc. I consider myself one of the guys who caught on to carp fishing during this enitial explosion and enjoy it to this day.

I love those shallow running cranks, John, especially for the rivers I fish around K-W. Add a little current to the retrieve and I find they'll cover pretty much the entire water column of a river where 3 feet is considered a deep hole. Now spinners, tubes and other plastics are my go-to choices for the rivers but boy, do I love throwin' cranks.

Good carpin' Marko and congratulations! I can't believe you were able to get your rod back, though, and the fish! What are the odds!

Even though your nephew didn't hook into any fish himself, I'll bet he was excited to see you guys landing 'em! That looks like a great time you guys had, and I'll bet Asaiah knows he has a pretty cool Aunt and Uncle!

Funny, but the only time I've used lipless cranks has been on lakes. When river fishing, particularly shallower rivers like the middle and upper Grand and it's tributaries, I prefer floating plugs like Rapala minnows and Fatraps, etc. I find when you combine the shallower water with river current, it's kinda hard work the lipless cranks effectively and keep 'em from getting hung on the bottom. I realize ticking bottom with these baits can be a good trigger to get fish to hit, though, particularly if you're talking about clear, rocky stream situation. I find with floating plugs I can cover the same water much more easily( and effectively, I think ).

Finally, a reason to go to a Jays game! lol Congratulations to Dave, Cast For A Cure, EVERYone! This is truly magnificent! Put 'er over the plate Mercer!!!

A great fish! Wish I had caught it!!! Congratz to the fella who caught it and thanks for posting it for all of us to see, MSP.

Now that's fishin'. A little bit of everything including a bowfin! That first pic looks like something out of a monster movie! I'm still looking forward to catching my first one.
-
Wow, nice fish Matt! Looks like some great shore fishing your way. Love the reports from the south and seeing some 'exotic' species.
-
Nope. And here's an embarassing admission. For all the times I've heard about it, I still have no clue what it is!!!

What a fantastic post Sinker! What a lifestyle out on the coast you got to sample with the fresh fish and all. Man, it makes me wonder what I'm doing living in Hamilton!!!

The first of many this year for ya, Buck! Good shootin' and it won't be long for the action to heat up at the harbour!

Bob Izumi used to have these Real Fishing Show radio segments a few years ago that I heard at various times on various stations. If you go onto their website you can replay them. I dunno if they still make them though. And I echo everyone's sentiments on the Outdoor Journal radio hour on the Fan 590. I haven't listened to worse programming in my life!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! I didn't expect Hatten to win but I didn't expect THAT kind of knock out so early in the fight. Pacman is amazing. I haven't seen a fighter like that in decades! Now that everyone is calling Manny the best pound for pound fighter on the globe, perhaps Mayweather, now that he's un-retired, will want to sign a fight him. But Mayweather has skillfully avoided fighting the #1 challenger his whole career so I would be surprised if we ever see Mayweather/Pacquiao.

As kids, we used to collect the red clay along the banks of Redhill Creek to make clay projects for school and such. My favorite was making dinosaur figures. lol Also use to hunt for salamanders and and garter snakes in the valley. Man, that was a long time ago... Anyhoo, just hearing about the one steelhead from Spiel and some salmon in the fall makes me feel like the creek has some hope. Hey, I'd even take suckers! When I drive by the Redhill Expressway, I see a lot of 'fishy' looking areas that, if it was any other stream located in any other area, could hold fish. But for now, I wouldn't spend much time on the creek as a fishing destination.

I'd say just be patient Dizzi. You're fishing trout waters but just not connecting. Keep at it. You'll learn and if nothing else, the law of averages is on your side! lol I remember this one month a couple of years ago when I went 6 straight trips without a bow. I second guessed EVERYthing I was doing including the soap I was using! Goodluck!

Thanks for the responses, guys. Good fishin'!
