That wasn't looting or vandalism after the game. It was a Canadiens tailgate.

You know you're getting old when you complain about the music that OFC'r Flyguy5 puts in his fishing vids!

Couldn't agree with you more, Johnny, about the Fish Crisp Beer Batter. Beyond it tasting awesome, it's so quick and easy! I like to mix mine so it's real thick, and make sure the fillets are patted nice and dry with a cloth so the batter sticks on the fillet nicely.

Way to go Joey. I remember catching a mess of bullheads on Simcoe years back and when we cleaned 'em for dinner, my friend showed me the local way they clean 'em up there. You know what, it was the 10-sec perch cleaning method that's making the rounds on youtube. You're probably familiar with it. Anyhoo, it works just as well for the bullheads, incase you wanted to give it a try.

Goodluck to your buddy. Must be pretty exciting to try earn a living( or just make a some extra money )doing something you love. PS.. Not a big fan of your music choice but I'm old and not much of a gangsta anymore. lol

I'm willing to bet that that story and pic was never actually published in a newspaper. It was made to LOOK like a newspaper article, but the only place I believe it was 'published' was the internet. Although the pic is legit the accompanying story isn't which claims the fish was caught in places where such sturgeon don't exist. One heck of a fish, though!

I remember having it and enjoying it at a restaurant in Florida. Kinda tasted like a cross between chicken and fish, as I recall. Our server told us the meat they use is from the tail.

Hey Congratulations Roger! I'll be sure to introduce myself next time I'm in the store. I'll be the guy who comes in to do more talkin' than buyin'! lol

I never go to Crappy tire for their fishing sales. They do this all the time. Never very much stock of a particular sale item. They wasted enough of my time with this practice and won't suck me in again.

I like going to Natural Sports. Nelson, the owner, keeps the store stocked pretty good and the selection of specific stuff I'm looking for is excellent. Since I work in Waterloo, I visit Chad's place, too, at Rainbow Sports. He's recently renovated( moved to the next unit over )and now has more space and stock. Personally, I don't think you'd be disappointed with either store.

Filmed an episode of Canadian Sportfishing!
Mike Pike replied to Stoty's topic in General Discussion
Nice job Stoty and I look forward to catching ya on the tube! I'm sure you felt the presure with the film crew showing up and having the weather turn bad, but it looks like you got into 'em. Lots of OFC'rs on TV these days. Wow! -
Thanks again for the suggestions folks. I just inspected the roller on my the bail arm for a gap and all looks fine. Noticed what looks like some wear on the one end of the roller, though. Hmmmmm. I'm wondering if the braid does this over time? It's a Rapala reel with a brassy looking roller but it's darker and 'appears' rougher towards the one end where I believe it may be worn( Best as I can tell with my glasses on and usng a magnifying glass as well! ). So, I'm gonna switch to a newer reel and since I have one last spool of Power Pro, I gonna give it one more try. I'm also gonna get my buddy, who was having similar problems, to inspect his rod guides and reel as well. Good fishing y'all!
-
Hmmm, an actual gap in the roller bearing. I'll check it when I get home( I'm at work now ). I know there wasn't a burr or any knick in the roller itself but I'l inspect for a gap. It's a Rapala reel only a season old. Tnx

Funny about that shock leader MJL. Although I don't carp fish alot, I did add a shock leader to my carp set-up but wasn't exactly 100 percent sure why! Totally makes sence and now I understand the need for it.

Nice score Dude and I'll take ya up on it. And a nice tip about the leather protectant. I've got a can of the stuff but no leather coats to spray it on! lol So I'll use it on my line.

Just wanted to say a quick 'thanks' for all of ya who took the time to answer. So, I put my glasses on, took a q-tip and inspected the rod guides and all look nice and smooth with no nicks. The spool and reel seem to check out ok too. I'm wondering if chucking those heavy sinkers repeatedly with full force( Niagara River shore anglers will know what I mean )adds some kind of extra stress to braid??? Anyhoo, I'm gonna start using one of my other reels( incase it's a reel issue that I wasn't able to see )and if it happens again I'll switch to another line. Spiderwire or Suffix, as was suggested, will be on my list. I pay anywhere from 20 to 25 bucks a spool for the Power Pro, and when I cast a mile out and it breaks close to the reel, I end up loosing a lot of line. Just looking for the most reliable bang for my buck. Thanks again.
-
I'll check the guides with a q-tip, GBFisher, to see if I have a problem there. It's a new rod and I've been careful with it, but ya never know til you check, right. Failing that, maybe try the Suffix riverfisher22 suggests.

Ok, so I've been using Power Pro braid( 15 - 4 )when drifting in the Niagara area and when I get snagged up and tug on the line, the braid just breaks. It's happened several times now. It just snaps about a foot or two from the reel. Odd because you'd think my 6lb floro leader would break first or my 6lb dropper line, but no. The braid breaks, and with minimal pull. A friend of mine complained to me about Power Pro too, and said he had his break when casting pike spoons on Georgian Bay right near the spoon itself. He's getting frustrated loosing lures and says he won't buy it anymore. Just wondering if anyone had a clue as to what the problem is and if you've had silmilar experience with the stuff. Thanks.

Now that's what I'd call a fishing report! Hey, thanks for sharing your weekend of fishing and relaxing Joey. Really enjoyed all your pics. That there is what weekends are made for, eh? Cheers!
-
Sounds like you're gonna have to get Steve to sell you a longhandle net! lol Must have been nice while the fight was on and looks like you got to enjoy it on that nice new rod. WTG.

Ya!? Well I'M gonna start charging your sponsors for attaching themselves to my posts! (lol)

Maybe the guys with a few extra pounds found the old avatars 'slimming.'
-
I quite like the new look myself! And I'm good with the avatar size. On the old site, the avatars were so small you couldn't even tell what you were looking at, and that was WITH my new glasses on! lol

Now, if I remember correctly, MrEh from the board is from down that way. Try sending him a PM. Apologies if I'm wrong. Good luck to ya. That looks like a great fishery a fun way to drift for 'eyes.

HOW TO CLEAN A PERCH IN 10 SECONDS!!!!!
Mike Pike replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
Tried it a few weeks ago and wow, what an easy, fast way to clean a mess of perch! I still can't do it in 10 seconds, but waaaaaay faster than my usual fillet method. Sure you have still have the bones in but the ribs just pull right out when you grab the back bone and pull the meat away. Looks great on the plate and very little meat is wasted on a very little fish. Love it!
