  1. that's a great family trip report, that smallie in the one pic is a solid hog, thanks for sharing all the pics
  2. that's a great way to get into your first musky...kick some butt and catch a couple of them , gotta love it when they jump..really gets the blood pumping, sounds like you 2 shared a great day on the water
  3. That's a great family report all around, thanks for taking the time to post about that big adventure. If you thought the people around really got off on the fact that the chipmunks would come right up to you and even take peanuts out of your mouth....next time try this one , we been getting the kids to do this for years, idea of course inspired by a few wobbly pops at the camp fire, here is a pic of my oldest daughter doign what we call.."chirpy fishing"
  4. it's just one of those spots....one day fishing will be on fire...the next nothing...The Grand changes all the time, tough body of water to crack, fish move around alot pending sediment, oxygen levels and such..but if you put the time into it, you will be rewarded.
  5. better if you use ice....no trace after it melts
  6. I think most avid fishermen have weighed a tonne of fish and measured them over the years on a quest for a PB along the way. Most have a general idea of what a fish would weigh just from that experience, if someone is way exagerating the weight of a fish most can tell no problem.....if someone catches a true 5-6-7 lber bass they know it for example because those fish will look way bigger than any they caught before.....GCD is right if someone posts an obvious Bull story..well that person's credibility amoung hundreds of members of the forum will eventually speak for itslef along the way.
  7. question is...what kind of fresh water fish that looks like that would actually have teeth like that???
  8. ah yes..fishing!!!!, what a novel dang idea ...speaking of, I am planting the bug and rustling up a couple people to come to my trailer sometime in Sept..for pickereyes, pike and muskies............be somehting like leave Sunday some time..come home Wednesday.....interested????...I have a van now can carpool everyone no probs, we all chip in for gas...guests chip in for guest passes...might cost like 25 bucks each for the trip and the stay together..we all go in my van will only cost like 5 bucks each a day for the guest pass....I might be towing someone else's boat up for the trip.......I have both the boats there now too, so plenty of room in boats..someone can use my 14 footer if need be for a couple guys...pending number of guys,2 can hop in the Viper with me ,possibly so far..Me,John,Joe,Jeff,Rory, pending what everyone is up to...I am going either way no matter how many come..plenty of room to crash in the trailers, lots of room to split up in the boats.....heads up though..who ever goes with Jeff if he comes, he is just planning on targetting eyes the whole time, I am going on the musky hunt for at least a couple runs
  9. ya gotta do what I do...sit around the house moping, then do all this stuff to drive the wife nuts, after a couple hours of that..well sometimes up to a day or so...she will gladly kick you out of the house to go fishin... also in your case..be glad to drop ya off some where
  10. hey don't knock that..my "semi retired" old 12 footer that the kids now use for a row boat has seen more fish than you can shake a stick at over the years...well don't shake the stick too hard it's also leaky and very tippy ...ya don't need a $60,000 Ranger to cathc fish that's for sure.
  11. probably like moth balls and ointment what ,...never tasted grey snapper before????
  12. no on the musky hunt until early Monday for a couple days..leaving for camp Sunday
  13. hey Bruce, don't need to tell me how much of a fishin nut ya are I do think ya need to get out more though, gonna lose your status if ya slip much under the 100 days mark...then it will be more like just falling off the wagon a little...or a relapse as opposed to all around fishin addict
  14. use non-iodized/Kosher salt if you want to give your older plastics a bit of a new zing
  15. our condolences as well, I have a step brother stationed out of Petawawa, who finished a tour of duty in the Middle East sometime back in the winter. Sadly he lost a couple room-mates and good friends on that tour as well when thier LAV was hit, and another incident.
  16. that fresh smell in the air is the big muskies getting ready to put on the feed bag...big pike, and the big sigh from all the people waiting for salmon snagging season to be over so they can get out there trout fishing

    BPS Question

I get mine at Crappy Tire every year since you needed one
  18. very sad to hear indeed Steve...was out with Jeff yesterday evening, we probably left the marina 1/2 hour before that happened.
  19. actually I am teasing myself too man, I used to live practically a couple blocks from the river and would walk down there fishing 3-4 days a week this time of year, the numbers of pinks was just insane....and that pike spot put out lots of 3 footers or so for me too...small window of opportunity and now is the time for a couple weeks....gotta be just before dark and that's pretty much it...spinner baits and gold panther martins...sometimes the pike would chase your lure right up to the bank..hit the shore, do a flip and gone I had some great times doing that
  20. I used to live in The Soo for a while...they should be starting up pretty good in about a week or so...then it will be just insane the amount of fish that come through there in a short amount of time!!!! Good place to start, but there will be crowds in by the Station Mall,MNR building, locks are at the dam...you will also see a few places along the boardwalk people fish as well at the little sitting areas built there. BUzzbombs are the hot ticket for sure..be prepared to lose a few though. Anothe technique many of the ole timers use on the board walk is to set up a down rigger off the railing of the sitting area and drop a spoon or a body bait down on it and let the current do the work. Be aware that if you are fishing by the dam area I mentioned before..the MNR office is right there and the CO"s will be sitting out there with a clipboard and ticket pad in hand watching that no one is keeping snagged fish, or fishing too close to the dam..or if your line is going to close to the dam as well. If you get the chance...just for a teaser..walk across the dam and look down...you will see thousands of pinks, and the big shadows of tonnes of Kings lurking underneath them. If you want some hot pike action in the mix too...this is a great time of year to fish the little bay that runs inside Bellview park...magic time is just before dark...that's when they come in there to feed..lots of hogs in there
  21. you might want to look into a couple of the Legend models...there are a couple options for bow riders, have the versatility for both fishing, and family fun. Thye have bow rider seating, and a bench seat across the back that folds down into a casting deck for fishing. Just a thought, then you get a lighter boat for towing, more economical for fuel, and at the same time can be used for family boating and fishing the Allsport and Xcalibur models have the option that I can think of off the top of my head...I live 2 blocks away from a Legend dealership and can easily get pricing for you if needed on new packages.
  22. just had to scratch the trout bug before we get out in the winter for the hogs??? sounds like some great family time well spent
  23. right on, greatfor kids to get into enjoying and learning about the outdoors..I always love the family reports
  24. nice report guys...good break from the Erie eyes, and nice to see a "fun fish" report..Erie been a bit bumpy anyways
  25. that's a decent fish, a bit skinny...there's no way it's a 5lber though....smaller one here is about 7 or 12 on TV
