  1. sounds promising for some spring action
  2. sharing info is what it's all about
  3. should turn out to be a great find
  4. Hi UF: I can't say I do, but I'll see what my mom remembers...the family name was Humphrey but there are no direct descendants left now. I do remember going to family dinners at my great-grandmothers; they sold the farm before my time and moved into town (Rowan) and lived on the block behind the main street (Ellis I think). I can still find my way there.
  5. Here we go again...you're dealing with 2 very polarized viewpoint in the work your being critical of and your supporting argument against. I'm not going to tell you which side I think is right but at least let's acknowledge that in general, we could all do something to have less impact on the environment. Simple things like keeping your engines in tune, practicing sustainable harvest, respecting catch limits and not leave crap lying around everywhere on the ice and in the bush would go a long way for us all. Global warming may well be part of the normal geological cycle but that doesn't mean we should do whatever we want whenever we want without forethought. The one thing I will stand up and say is that we can all be more conscientious about how we treat our natural resources.
  6. has anyone had a look at the Minden/Haliburton area lakes lately?
  7. That's fantastic...have 4 of my own and can't wait to get back out. I have a lot of family history down that way-my great-grandparents had a farm just outside of Port Rowan and my uncle used to guide out of LP. Where did you launch from?
  8. Awesome report...just how far north are you?
  9. Interesting question...I've always sat on starboard but I'm right handed. My Suzuki has the shifter on the tiller handle so it really wouldn't matter..not sure about clearance to turn though. That being said, my chair is on the starboard side, so with my boat, no choice.
  10. ..don't know about sunk but maybe the loose cowling (bungee holding it down it looks) as let a lot of moisture under and then helped keep it there? Bottom line-test run!
  11. cool-where are the pics from?
  12. I'd treat it the same as any other engine (outboard, lawnmower or snowblower) in terms of either emptying fuel or adding stabilizer and a good shot of fogging oil into the cylinder. One thing I like to do is keep an old spark plug (or set if more than one cylinder) to use the first time I fire up an engine out of storage. That way, you're not gumming up good plugs when burning off the storage oil. As for an auger, I don't have a power one but I always spray my hand auger blades with WD40 before it goes up in the garage rafters for the summer.
  13. great pics-congrats
  14. great pics and a better story!
  15. there's a bait shop (Caledonia Bait & Tackle) right at the dam-give them a shout and you'll have all the info you need.
  16. I haven't been up but the neighbours sent a pic this week of the deer under the trees standing in snow with the ice-covered lake in the background. I've heard in the last few days from folks who have been out in the area on St. Nora and Kushog.
  17. Awesome fish and great pics-thx for sharing.
  18. nice work on the fish and vids!
  19. sounds like our day-myself & a buddy grabbed a couple of morning whities and some afternoon perch. it was an awesome day out on the ice.

  21. I'm hoping to get up to our place in Carnarvon next week and get out with the kids for a last go on the ice. Any updates on ice conditions would be greatly appreciated.
