That looks like a great job. I wish I had done something like that when I was younger.

We were out on Simcoe early this morn to get some smallies. Got several smallies but no real monsters. My largest today was a 3 pounder and my buddy managed a 4 pounder. It is kind of funy that I no longer think of 4 pound smallies as monsters. I guess that is what Simcoe will do for you. Too many 5+ pounders around. We are spoiled. Anyway, on a side note the perch were smacking our lures. I have literally caught a thousand perch in my life and I honestly believe that this is my PB. It measured 13.5" long and I weighed it on my digital scale and it weighed exactly 1.25 pounds. 1 pound 4 ounces is not too bad. The fish was very fat. My largest smallie of the day, 3 pounds caught before 6 am. My buddies largest smallie of the day, 4 pounds. My PB perch Again with a tape measure

Dave (Ramble On) is a guide up there. I know another guide named Stewart who works there as well. Did you meet either of them. Dave has been in a few magazine articles and he was also the guide for Pete Bowman when they filmed their show up there. Congrats on the nice fish. Sorry about the weather. drop shot a gulp leech 3" I saw a great article in a mag where the guy fished small to medium sized streams. He uses a 3 way swivel. Bell sinker on bottom and a 4 inch senk type plastic on a 2/0 or 3/0 hook. cast out and retrieve slowly. IF the current is strong you can cst out and leave it there. Always wanted to try it but I never fish smallies in a stream/river.

Exactly as TJ says. Post the pics but not the specifics ie exact locations. If the location is obvious because of certain distinguished charactreistics you have 2 options when posting. 1st option, don't post the pic. 2nd option is to blurr out the background. I have done this in the past.

despite the lack of huge fish I say that still crushes being at work. I like catching any fish all sizes.

gimbal bearings and bellows are always the first things to go. I am no expert though. Sorry. I was talking about inboard/outboards. Inboards are more straight forward (car engine as well but with a direct drive shaft). Can't really help there. SOrry.

Just back from Canadian Tire Barrie. The North store has some new berkley rods. I think they are called amp or something like that. Well under $40 and they look really good.

Maybe my post is not clear. My rod with 9 eyes on it has fuji alconite. My friend recently got a rod with titanium eyes for $40 and that rod came with a reel. Those titanium eyes WERE NOT Fuji. My lightning rod has titanium coated alloy guides.

I work there. There are some big musky in that water. Fishing for pickeral?? with a red devil? Maybe, but my guess is that he was after pike with that lure.

Throw him something he may never have seen before, like a beaver bait (creature bait). Or try a different technique like shaky head fishing. Get a good shaky head jig and a 5-7 incvh shaky head or finess worm and give it a go. Seeing as this bass is trying to eat a 1+pound bass I might go with bullybass' suggestion and throw a big swimbait. Buy a storm 10" kickin minnow and throw that. They have great action and only cost about 7 bucks.

Well that is just gross! So it is that easy to catch musky? Just look for a few rocks and some vegetation and a shelf. Bingo. Thanks for the lesson. LOL. Seriously though, that was a great read and those are some beuty fish. I need to get me one of those fish this year. Congrats on a great day of musky fishing!

I am going to have to give the old 2 thumbs down to the ugly stick. But if you want an unsensitive heavy basic rod that probably won't break, go for it. If you want something that is more sensitive and lighter, and made with better components, DO NOT BUY I got two $20 rods that are head and shoulders better thatn an ugly stick in almost any situation. They are IM6 graphite 7' m action with fast tip with 9 good quality fuji guides and split rear handle cork grip. You just have to find the sales. I know there wre a few recent 7' combo sales (rod and reel) half price. Total cost $40 and one was an IM7 graphite rod with titanium guides. If all else fails buy a 6'6" or 7' lightning rod. I have one. It is not bad, I rarely use it but it works.

Got out for a couple of hours this morning. Tried to fish for an hour for stupid lake trout and whitefish but they would not cooperate, as usual. I got frustrated and decided to go for some smallmouth. We caught lots of good size perch (dinner) and a bunch of small smallies (which is a good sign) but only one nice one. I managed to coax a 3.4 pounder to hit my crankbait. Got home and it was still fairly early in the morning. A fun start to Canada day! Lots of nice perch out there loads of these little bass which tells me that the resident population seems healthy. These little guys will hit lures about the same size as them. This is a nice 3.4 pound Simcoe smallie. Not a huge fish but a nice one.
