  1. Daiwa Terra rods at LeBarons are around $55 and they are IM7 rods. I have a baitcasting 6'6 mh and is a good rod. 10 good quality eyes as well.
  2. I don't want to "bash" the ugly stick but really the ONLY thing it has going for it is strength. If you are only trolling it works fine I guess. They are not very sensitive at all. They are heavy and have no backbone. Hookset are slow as a result. I guess if you need a backup rod it would do in a pinch but spend some extra money. Dando is not wrong with recommending fenwick.
  3. Wow! I have never heard a TB spacer giving that much better fuel economy. I have had them before when modding engines and tried to get more hp from them and some small gains in mileage but the gains in both hp and fuel economy were minimal. I guess it would depend on the vehicle
  4. Are the Simcoe whities still holding up in relatively the same location? I want to get out fishing on Saturday and I want to know if the fish have moved at all or if they are still at the same depth they were 2 weeks ago. Thanks
  5. If you use the launch by the marina and you are confident they won't make you pay. Barrie residents don't pay. Otherwise use tiffin launch athe the south west corner. It is good as well but not as good as the main launch. If you get there before 8 am you can launch at the marina launch for free anyway.
  6. I am pretty sure that thing has a larger girth than 14". I bet you it is 17". If that is the case it would be well over 7 pounds.
  7. bassmaster a day on the lake is great but I also like the pro tips. Modifying lures etc.
  8. Wasn't the old calculation length x girth x girth / 850 ? or something like that? maybe it was 800. If your fish was 23 inches long and had a 16 inch girth it would weigh about 7 pounds but that seem high. Maybe you have to divide by 900. Can't actually remember my guess is 5.5-6lbs
  9. This is my favorite boat and best boat name. Saw it just heading out of Barrie going north. Made out of oil drums and has a plastic chair as the drivers seat. This might be the best boat ever!
  10. You can add big swimbait to the list (soft or hard) I was in Alberta last summer and was crushing pike on black Booyah Boogie baits (chatterbait). Lipless cranks work as well. i remember a couple of times in Manitoba I outfished some local using a really long rattling spot. They don't make them anymoer I think it was called a rattlin spot minnow or something. Pike will go after anything. I caught one the other day on a spinner worm harness with a juicy crawler trailing. I have also caught several by accident on twin tail mister twisters.
  11. I never named my boat but it is on there Its name is TONY I kind of like it. It is a 12' aluminum
  12. Where were you? Not far from the alcona launch? I think I saw you out there last saturday when it was windy and crappy out. Your boat and my boat were pretty much the only ones around late in the day. Nice fish. What were you using?
  13. Ok this little smallmouth could just get his mouth over the worm. Once he did so he couldn't let go. Smallest fish I have ever actually caught on a rod and reel.
  14. I can beat GB's fish as soon as I find the pic. I had a 2 inch smallmouth hold onto my worm and not let go until it was in the boat. It was way smaller than my worm. I love teh sunfish slammin the husky jerks/x-raps. I throw husky jerk 12s all the time on simcoe and catch tons of perch. Too funny
  15. Yep, Backwater in midland. Bryan Berriault (sp)
  16. I wanted to go out in my small 12 ft boat and hit couch for pike and little lake in barrie for walleye/pike /crappie but weatther conditions were not condusive to allow me to sit in a small car topper. Had to use my buddy's 21.5 ft wakeboard/runabout instead. We left the barrie ramp at 6:30 and were fishinf just off the alcona slip (public launch area) at 7 ish. I fished for whitefish in water from about 60-72 ft for 3 hours without a bite. I was using a williams spoon and my buddy was drop shotting a 3 inch minnow. We packed up and headed to the bottom of cook's bay (near keswick marina) for some pike. By this time the wind was already out of control. Threw out the 42' drift sock and the anchor and still was drifting quite rapidly. Anyway, I tried everything from swimbaits to jerkbaits to spinnerbaits to chatterbaits to lipless cranks and regular cranks (including some $20 lucky craft lures which I really don't want to lose). Nothing. Water was quite stained. By about 1 pm I was almost as foul as the weather so I hooked up a worm harness with a spinner and worm to catch some perch and maybe even a walleye. The drfit was so fast you didn't even have to reel. caught a few small perch. My buddy caught a small pike on the worm harness. We needed to get out of the wind so from 4 until 5:30 we fished the west side of cook's all the way up to Big bay point. We even trolled in 20 ft of water for about 45 mins. After being on the water for about 11 hours we managed about 15 perch and 1 small pike. I am getting frustrated with the winds on Simcoe. Sorry to sound negative as I do but I have 3 small kids at home and i don't often get the chance to fish for a whole day. I was really disappointed with the weather. So hard to find spots and stay on them. Seems like everytime I get onto simcoe these days it is really windy.
  17. I went out today and fished them hard for 3 hours and nothing. I don`t get it. I am starting to hate simcoe. It was so windy today. Managed only one small 3 pound pike and a dozen or so perch. I need to go out with someone who knows how to catch these whitefish. I didn`t see anyone catch a fish today so I don`t feel that bad.
  18. Tons of those little snakes. All small pike. The guy at the bait shop doesn't know what he is talking about. That is all I am going to say.
  19. Wow indeed. Wait until bass season. You will not be disappointed.
  20. When I first looked at it I immediately thought rock bass. I would like to see the dorsal fin.
  21. I have a bit of a problem. I don't know where to fish Saturday. I have the use of 2 boats. One big and one small. I was thinking cooks bay for pike. Maybe couch for pike. Then I thought about fishing little lake in barrie for walleye or maybe go jigging for some whitefish on simcoe. What do you guys think? I booked this day off from my family months ago so I need to make the most of the day.
  22. It is my friend's boat. He has a lauch pass at P-town and is closer to his house. Boat ride is not a big deal 20ft bass boat with a 225 merc (always fast and alwasy wet through the gap). I have lauched with him at Midland launch but he like s Penetang launch. I still need the go ahead from the wife so there is a good chance that is moght not even go ahead. 43F is cold. wow.
  23. sorry about your luck. Heard that alot recently. Loads of fish marking and none taking. I might fish some walleye on the bay on Friday after school is out. We'll see. i might launch in Penetang and make a run to port severn. We'll see.
