  1. Good ole Grump. may he rest in peace.
  2. I dont like being cold either shane. That fabric on the orange costco one seems to be of good quality. Now if they only made it in black, that would be an even better hub.
  3. Josh Take all the info you got here and do with it as you please. Since I went this route, I have not been disappointed. This will be ( if we get any good ice that is ) my 4th season going with the drill set up. Many whom have fished with me, and those even out there fishing when I start to drill, are amazed. Dont let those gasser guys fool ya either. I go all season with this set up. Have not had a holed drilled for me by a gasser in those years either. And thats no B S .
  4. Happy BDAY Big man.
  5. Thanks Michael. I would guess if the snow is done for now, the ice should be good.
  6. Like I said in my opening post, even different ways, both with and without the pink salt, and they were chefs as well. No offence taken by your post btw. I don't take things personal. Lifes to short for that these days.
  7. No need to defend here John. I was looking for opinions on what I have researched. Some like to read more into things. There are those here that I will take their word. Known them long enough and never know which new members, might do this kind of stuff for a living. No worries DW.
  8. We got a real good dumping over night. about 10". Thankfully, it,s the light stuff. Wind should blow it off. I hope. I don't like walking were I cant see the ice. New ice that is. I,ll need to dig out the snow shoes me thinks.
  9. Hey Mike Remember talking about that wobble? Well I did have that, but it was an easy fix. Once you have the shaft adaptor in place and set, just tap it with a piece of wood. a few times at both ends. The bearing just need to be set in place, thats all. Mine is true, as true can be,
  10. Spot on Mike. Forgot that one.
  11. Try using your Ion or gasser, during the summer, while building a deck or other home projects. The batterys you can get online for sweet deals. My total cost was just around 320 bucks. 12 months use. Also dont forget. It serves the purpose to those that dont want the wieght to drag around and also dont want to deal with the fuel/oil stuff. It serves me well.
  12. The fuel is a big step from that one Mike. It would work just fine with the 6" though. Kevin is the one that got me hooked on the fuel. What a huge diffrence in power. Now he,s gone and upgraded to the super fuel. LOL I,ll get one once I get feed back from him.LOL Josh If your interested, kevin has this one in the classifieds. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80762
  13. Chris good tune and like this guys voice. RDR,,,,,,,,,,,,You must be as old as I am. I remember watching that HEE HAW when I was a youngn at me GRAM MAS.
  14. Thanks Cliff. As for the oven, it,s all I have living in a condo. LOL Im sure once I have this one under my belt ( pun ), I will know if making or just buying, is the way to go. I dont eat alot of it, but if this works, I might be.
  15. So as the pork belly has been flipped on day three, I have been reading more about this. I came across one that said 7 days is best for the size of slab I have. Not 5. Two days makes that much of a difference? Im thinking its more time for the salt to draw out the moisture. I also came accross that once I wash it, it should be patted dry and put back in the fridge for an additional 48 hours uncovered. Then put in the oven for the time it takes at 200 deg til the meat reaches 150 deg internal. What I am asking is, 5 days or 7? Wash and back in the fridge uncovered for 48 hours ? The oven time I have that covered. No brainer.
  16. If I get that far my friend, I will be happy and probly asking the same question.
  17. XRP is just a larger capacity battery, It is a ni-cad .
  18. If you have the 8" then your not going anywhere with that drill you have. Like I mentioned in my reply, I used the same drill you have with my 6" finbor. Only 3 holes from one battery. The dewalt one which is cheaper then the wackie, will do you. Like our member Mark above mentioned, you will have to cut a few inches, lift,to clear shavings and so on and so forth. Thats using the dewalt, not the bosch. Keep that one for home projects.LOL
  19. 350lb is not a lot and your battery juice will not last out there. I bought this combo last fall just to try it as it was cheap. I took it back. Didn't make 3 6" holes on one battery. If you want to go low budget, go with the dewalt 18 volt with the xrp batteries. If your going to be using a 6" your gold. If your going with an 8", the drill will work hard. I have been doing this now for a few years. Seen good / bad. I now have upgraded to the millwackie brushless with 750 lb with 3 - 4ah and 1 - 5 ah battery. I have yet to go through 2 full batteries. I use the 8" fin bor 3 What is your concerns with the adaptor? Also what auger are you planning on using?
  20. What winter? Good call G
  21. Roger I just set the lines, sit back in the lazy chair and wait.
  22. Care to share a picture of you canner please? Any of you two. Doug I think you owe me a video, so a canning one would be great and fair.
  23. I like to free line for pike. I will explain I use a spool of 50 lb black braid nylon. 200 yard spool min, I attach a 3ft leader of 20lb floroclear PLINE. I as well use a treble like Dave, I will stick one hook near the tail. My preference. As for the term freeline, I use a branch from a tree which I stick into a pile of shaved ice from the hole I drilled. I will tend the line to the branch. I will also put a flag/indicator, (field tape) so to tell if there is a hit. If the flag is gone, well you best be getting to the hole. The free line allows the pike to take the bait naturaly. The pike feels no resistance. I know some may think this will not allow for live release, but when fishing this way, I am not looking to live release. Im have used this method for as long as I can remember. I also dont target them til after laker and whitefish close. I like 3-4 inch shinners. Natural bait to Simcoe. We cannot use smelts or herring from the lake.
  24. I want to be set up on some hard water this weekend. Hub over head, heater going, the smell of a nice smoked sausage cooking on the grill, listening to some good tunes, and the sound of line peeling. Is this too much to ask ?
