Loving it Bill. Just trying to figure out why I can not zoom on reg graph. I can get zoom on a split screen, but lose my aperture. When I get the nav chip,I,ll be happy. Still using land marks and marking my spots. LOL

I'm not sure it,s smelt, as their numbers have declined over the years. Still see the odd schools during ice season down the hole, but the herring would make more since, but even with the great come back since the closing of the season for them 12+ years ago, they seem to have disappeared again. There is talk they are chomping down on perch now. Yes perch. Schools of them have been reported to be in the depths of 100ft now. We have caught them in 80 fow, and I have snagged a few in the 100 depth. This lake seems to change every year. Shiners seem to be in a abundance these years. They are seen in schools on the surface through out the year. I hope to have the right brine mix and smoke right ,when it,s steel head time. This is my goal.

Before I head to radio world, I am going to bump this up. Still looking.

Thank you Sir EWWWW POOP. Dialed in, well, I will not say that,. Every time I switch up, I get window shoppers. Go back to ole faithful, they seem to think it,s dinner time. Cant explain it really. Just seems to work best. I will say though, the stealth moving of a toon does help. Sneaking up on fish ,100 feet down, is not easy. It takes perscion and accuracy.

All this talk about the weather guys being right/wrong . They called for lightening and possible rain at 7 am. I had the toon rigged up at 5 am this morning. As I was doing this, I caught flashes of orange lights over the bay. I was egar to get at my launch area and see what was going on. Love a good light show. And what a light show . Looked like canons going off. I had my go pro rolling, but the video was crap. No worries though. I got to see it and have it tucked away in my brain. I was on shore watching this. No way was I going out there til it past. And pass it did. Sometimes mother nature can play tricks, and sometimes she can offer up beauty. Even though I do not have a chip yet for the nav for my new to me HB 598, I was still able to mark my spots. I started this morning on my fav. Marked small stuff. Probably perch . 100 fow. Moved to the point drop. 105 fow. Marked 2 fish, but lazy ones. Moved out to 115 fow. Marked. So sat pat. Less bait fish in the area, so I thought this might be a good thing. Dropped the bait and rested it at 100. Fish came up quick to check it out. Reel and back down it went. I dropped back and out of no where, it comes in again and hits it dead stick. I was like holly molly. Landed and released quick. Mark 2 fish down there just after landing. Drop the bait. Hit the 90ft mark and they both come screaming up. On latches on. Another fight is on. This one took a bit to get up, but landed it. I am watching my finder the whole time I am unbuttoning this fish. The other is still down there. Release the fish and back down goes the bait. I couldn't believe the bait only got to 60 fow when this fish that was down there, came screaming. I stopped. Waited. Just as it was about 10ft away, I started reeling. It was like he was on red bull, as he was on me so quick, I didn't even need to set the hook. Grabbed the bait and dived right down. Screaming. Tried to get him to come up, but once again, I heaved a bit to hard and well, he gone. This is the 2nd big fish that has unbutton on me this year. I love these fish. So back to the weather guys. They were right in one way. Lightening. But their time slot was off. I was on the water at 6:30. Clear sky's except some cloud cover. Bay went flat. They called for 5-7 mph west winds with gusts of 8. Not getting cocky, as I know Simcoe can turn quick. Thought Shane would like this.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I will agree I missed that blood line, but I just pick it off when I am eating it. To add, the blood line will be there if you leave the skin on. Bleeding out does not get rid of it. Bleeding out keeps the meat from blood getting into. I bleed all my white fish as you know. The blood line is always there. So after this laker, I think I will do a dry mix next time. Knowing lakers are oily, I only added more moisture to the fish with the wet brine instead extracting the moisture and oils. One thing for sure, the apple wood was the ticket. Not over powering. Was just perfect. I went 2/3 this morning. Kept a small one. 8lb. I put the fillets in a bag of water and froze it. I have read this helps to make the fish much firmer when it thaws and makes a better smoked fish. Now I have to go and see if my light show video turned out. It was amazing. I was not on the water while it was going on. I may be loony, but Im not stupid. LOL

I,ll be over soon. EXACTLY 2 hours from now. LOL

Thanks Boss. Nice to hear from you.

Did sugar maple last weekend . Did some nice sausages. I found the smoke great, but need to limit the amount. Very powerfull.
-
No, I do not soak the chips. From what I read and seen, soaking seems to prolong the smoking process. When you watch the real smokers, they are throwing in chunks of dried wood.. They are not soaking them logs. LOL I go straight dry. The smoking starts real quick. Like I said, learning, but from what I have read and seen, straight out of the bag, in to the pan, to smoker. I do find the smaller chips seem to smoke slow for some reason. The larger chunks I used last weekend, fueled up and smoked so nice. Filled the condo with that camp fire smell. LOL

Forgot to add, chips where apple.

Still new to the smoking thang, but enjoying. My frst atemp sucked. I for got to wash off the fish. This time, I followed the rules. First part of the smoke,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Fresh LAKER Next is in the brine of ,salt and lots of brown sugar and a gallon of water for 20 hours. No pic. Remove, pat dry and let stand for 1/2 hour. Set up the racks Note: Hanging without skin attached, no work. DANG. They fell, BUT lucky me, they landed on the lower rack. Adjusted them so they all layed flat Brushed with a mix of maple syrup, mustard and black pepper. Cracked more pepper after that. HAPPY HAPPY Next, salmon, when I get one. Note: I prefer the back strap of the fish. Seems to smoke and solid up the best. Then again, I am new to this.

I have fish in brine, I just finished watching Grumpier old men. My gawd, does it bring out Terry and I. LMAO 2 old byes that have a crusty side, but will help when ever needed. Maybe he should of came over to ask about catching,,,,,,,,,,,, -
While out fishing this morning, this young fella approached the finder guru ( so he was told ) I could hear the young guy being very polite as he approached. Terry helped this guy out and thought wow, this is the way it,s suppose to be. Well, maybe not with the bow pointing against one of his toon bladders with the wave action we had today, but It was nice to see him give the kid a hand. Terry probly spend 15-20 minutes explaining how to set up the young guys finder. Buddy, you are da best.

Are Black Crappie considered invasive?
misfish replied to Hack_Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Well the one I caught was in a marina in port severn. Everyone said it was a calico bass. I thought they were saying chemical bass. LOL -

They were transplanted by seagull poop. LOL Are Calico bass crappie? Did we make a new name for the calico? Renamed it crappie? Like walleye vs pickeral. I remember as a kid catching use ones on GBAY. I was told they were calico bass then ? -

These are my set ups . 12.6 ft Shimano Crucial Spinning Rod with Daiwa whisker reel. 10ft Shimano Crucial spinning rod with a Quantum tour pro 20. My other is a 10ft river bait cast set up. I remove the braid once the cold weather comes and go with Raven. It makes a nice drifting set up when I want to wear mitts. All are set up with line as said above. I find casting with the braid is much easier and you don't get that line twisting when your drag is fighting the fish. Yer a good man Rick.
