Awesome report Lew. Great job and happy father's day to you.

By no means am I trying to be rude, but why would leave them in overnight? Maybe someone thought they were forgotten about and removed them, or was concerned about the line getting caught in a prop. Usually, marker buoys are only left in for short periods of time while fishing an area. Once the area is fished thoroughly, the marker is removed and the search for the next spot begins. Or it could simply be exactly what you said, someone needed marker buoys and was too cheap to buy or make their own.

For pike and muskie it is quite simple, generally anything 10lbs or more will be a female over 90% of the time. For any other species it is quite difficult to tell, even to a trained professional.

I was fishing with Mr. Muskie himself and his buddy. Guess who caught the 5? I've been muskie fishing with him 4 times now and he has always landed at least one muskie each time. It will be very difficult to get rid of this boat. With all the hard work put into it, the fish it has seen, and the fact that it is my first boat will all make it harder to part with.

That was awesome. Good job.

After much anticipation and lots of new gear purchased during the winter, I finally got out to properly fish for muskie. Prior to this I've only caught 1 muskie while actually fishing for them. Three of us headed out to the lake in the kawarthas with 2 boats, (1 boat rented and me in my 14' aluminum), at about 9 am. We started off fishing close together with not much happening and then split up to cover more water. I continued to work the original weedline and as I reeled in my storm soft plastic I see a fish follow up and before I could go into the figure 8, the fish committed. A nice battle ensued with the fish and with my beckman pen net, (2 muskie baits got tangled in the net while I tried to get it ready), but the fish stayed hooked and was successfully netted and released, a nice 34" fish. Since I was alone in the boat, I couldn't get a good shot of the fish, but I tried. We fished a few more areas and ended up with 7 muskie between the three of us with one guy getting 5 of them toothy critters. We took a break from the muskie and stopped for a little walleye action in mid afternoon for some nice table fare, catching 5 in about 20 minutes. I even had a large muskie take a walleye right off my hook. I threw back a storm bait and had a hit, but no hookup. Satisfied with our walleye catch we continued to fish for muskie. My personal summary for the day, 1 muskie landed, 1 flash behind the bait (not quite sure what species), 2 follows, 1 OOS largie (hardest hit I had all day), 3 walleye landed, 1 walleye eaten by muskie, several rock bass (while fishing for walleye), and several very large sunfish in the 10"+ range (mostly hybrids but a couple nice pumpkinseeds). All in all it was a great day on the water with great company, which is what fishing should be. P.S. My buddy caught a 28" muskie with 2 very large open sores on the lower half of the body. Would this be VHS? I've seen many diseased fish with similar markings, but never with wide open sores like this one had.

Great job!

Last fall a buddy and I were fishing muskie in Pigeon, and had the same fish follow up 4 times to the boat. The second time it followed up my buddy's bait first, and while he was doing figure 8's I reeled up to the boat only to see the fish start to swim away. I started doing figure 8's myself and got the fish to turn back and bolt right past my suick and right at the trolling motor. Never seen or even heard of that before, but with your report, I'm sure it happens fairly often.

The last time I checked, I saw one of the big bass still swimming around in there. Not sure what happened to the other one. As for the boats, the sales were off the charts within the last few months. The waiting list to get a new boat, of certain models, is several weeks. I know this since I'm on the waiting list for the Targa.

That's what I thought. GPool it is this weekend. Thanks very much for clarification.

Hey everyone, With muskie season upon us, I was just wondering if Little lake/Gloucester pool lies within the zone that opens up this weekend, or if it's zoned with gbay. I have checked the regulations and can't seem to find a concrete answer. I'm guessing that since it is on the inland side of the locks, that muskie season opens this saturday, however, I have discussed this with a few other people and have been getting conflicting ideas as to when the season opens. I say this weekend, some others say the third saturday. I would really like to give this body of water a try this weekend for pike and muskie, but if the muskie season isn't open there, I will head somewhere else. I'm just wanting to clarify for myself, and for any others who might be wondering the same thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

With this being my first official muskie hunting season, this thread is very beneficial and an excellent idea. Of all the muskie I've caught, only 1 has been actually fishing for them, so this is going to be quite different and exciting for me. I've booked off the weekend from work well in advance so I could take part in my first muskie opener, and with the great information provided from this thread, I can't wait to get out there and catch some skies. I will post a report and hopefully some pics. Thanks guys.

Great report and pics. Lincoln was the residence building advisor at SSFC during my first year there. Great guy, and good to hear he's his own boss and doing well. Hopefully the fishing is just as good tomorrow, my buddy wants to catch his first whitefish. Any leftovers, or a tentative date for the next BBQ?

Friends livelihood stolen..please keep a lookout!
smbhunter replied to bigfish1965's topic in General Discussion
I'll keep a look out in the Toronto area for you. My dad does gardening/landscaping and has had a couple trucks and some equipment stolen from him in the past. The vehicle was found in every case, but all the equipment was gone. My dad now heavily marks all of his machinery and tools by spray painting everything with his company colours and engraving the power equipment with the company initials. Since he started doing this 10 years ago, he has never had anything stolen, except from one of his drivers, who took some power equipment last fall. I'm sure something will turn up, but hopefully the thief will be caught and charged heavily. -
Good job Steve. I hope tomorrow morning will be just as good. My plan is to get some quick whities, then head down to cooks for some pike. Can't wait to start casting again.

Now that's what fishing is all about. The big smiles. Especially from the little ones. -
Excellent report, and great job by the little one getting all the big ones.

Need your thoughts and prayers

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, and especially your father. -
LOL!!! When my brother and his fiance first heard this song, I was the first thought that entered both of their minds. They both said they could see me doing that. I had to agree 100% with them. If a woman is going to make me choose, there is only one choice to be made, cuz she ain't the one for me.

Great shots lew. That's alot of water. In a way all this water is a good thing, it will boost up the levels in some lakes that need it. Look out in about 3-5 years when most species will be of catchable size from this year. More spawning habitat available and more oxygen in the water for fish like walleye and trout. The bad news is for the people that are directly affected by the high water.
