  1. Yeah, thanks! The price range on that seems big, 2000-4000, and around $400 for the boat.. I'm most concerned about costs that I'm not seeing, and depreciation and such.
  2. Hey guys and gals, spring's sprung and my wife and I are trying to figure out how we can get up to a lake more often than not this year! We've been in discussions with her family about going in 4 ways on a cottage for a while now, but we can't all see eye to eyes on where it should be, how much to spend, and what's important and what's not. So, its come to our attention that older park model trailers can be had quite cheaply from $10-20,000 and they seem like they'd fit the bill, without us having to get anyone else to agree on it with us. I used to go to a trailer park near our home when I was a kid, but I was just small and other than having lots of people to hang out with, I don't know much about it otherwise. We both think it would be swell to be able to be on the water every day, have a nice fire every night, and bbq almost every meal. We both like the kawarthas very much, its got everything we need and like, and we avoid that drive on the 400 all summer. With the little bit of research I've done, it seems like they all have various rules. Some, not so good with dogs, some are very dog friendly. What's typically policies on having guests for the weekend? It would be nice to be able to have people up for a few nights. Anyway, I'm looking for some maintenance stories, what to look for, ownership stories, and story stories. (as long as they pertain to park model trailers) Thanks!
  3. Came in here to mention G-flex. Stuff is amazing.
  4. My guess is the value to be in the low 13s. Keep in mind that the cost to import a boat from the states can't be factored into what yours is worth, because really there's a low chance that the boat will ever be exported/imported and will just remain in the country/state that its being sold. I know what you're going through though, I'm currently on the market for a 04-08 bass boat, but I'm looking for aluminum due to the nature of our lakes up here, and my tendency to be at new lakes every year (never knowing exactly where I'm going). I currently have an 89 Tracker bass boat and its hard to gauge what its actually going to be worth when I sell it. Browsing kijiji ads doesn't really give you a sense of what kind of offers people are actually getting, and what they're settling on as a final price. I am however prepared for the fact that my boat may be worth less than I hoped it is, but I'm assuming its actual value to be a the lowest end of the scale that I've seen compareables posted at. Its tough, I know the struggle, and I'm sad that yours isn't aluminum!
  5. Is it fiberglass? (asking for a "friend")
  6. I have two pair of Spy polarized, and recently got a pair of Arnettes. I'd recommend either, both very high quality. My first pair of spy polarized are over 10 years old and still look as good as the day I bought them. I'd also like to throw out there to the guys who are "hard" on glasses and break them a lot, good quality glasses can take quite a beating before they break unlike cheap ones. I've sat on mine countless times and they're still just fine. They've also spent an hour at the bottom of the pickerel river, until some kid lent me his goggles and I could go down and find them. Good quality glasses are totally worth the extra money, if you're arguing otherwise, I'd venture to guess you've never owned a pair of good glasses. As been said, you've only got on pair of eyes. Its almost like arguing that you don't need snow tires because you've always been fine without them. Doesn't make it right..
  7. Thanks, I'll look into a few of those! The one on nippissing looks nice! We've stayed at pine grove before. We both actually really enjoyed it there, the only bad thing we had to say about it was the fishing was super tough. Its hard to have everything in one place, I know. But its the only thing there that really keeps us from going back. I asked people and they said they were catching walleye trolling in 150' of water... I'm not sure if they were just pulling my leg, but I tried it, super boring. It was nice to be able to take a short drive to algonquin, we all had a great time there.
  8. Hey, anyone here with some recommendations on some pet friendly resorts here in Ontario to visit this summer? We've either visited or eliminated a lot of the resorts on this website: http://www.petfriendly.ca/rentals.php?id=5 I'm just thinking that some people here may have a few more suggestions. I have a bernese mountain dog, and she loves to go to the cottage with me. Thanks Ken
  9. Wow, a hip hop thread on OFC... I saw tribe the year they played at rock the bells. He will be missed.
  10. I know my dog won't eat white rice! I've tried to feed her a bland diet in the past to get over various stomach issues and if I don't put anything in there on top of it, the rice will sit there all day. I don't blame her. Also, I have pet insurance and its payed off quite well. Our first year we got over $1500 back from it and we felt like we were well ahead of the game, and this year is her third year and she's going in for surgery tomorrow to get a growth removed from her ear. (little nervous) Its nice to not have to worry about the cost at all. I don't know about you, but we definitely don't have a couple thousand dollars kicking around at all times that we don't have any intention/use for.
  11. I'd like to add a +1 to waiting for an older, but better equipped model. As a current boat owner, I'm sure you know, that if they're well maintained, and stored properly a lot of boats in Ontario have very short seasons (low hours for their age), and can still be in top shape even if 5 or years old. I'll just throw something out there in the link that I think would be better.. Keep in mind too that this isn't a good time of year for people to be selling used boats, so there's not as many good options out there as there will be in 2 or 3 months. I'm also looking, and there's a lot less "traffic" right now than there was in the summer.. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-motorboat/sudbury/2008-lowe-aluminum-with-2010-mercury-60-hp-sold/1136775545?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
  12. HAHA, I was complaining about this to my wife, and she goes "didn't he just die?!".. Definitely weird for an NBA ASG, I would really like to have seen the weekend play, guys got skills.
  13. I've used G-flex epoxy from West systems with great luck on mine. I always keep some around incase of tough times on a trip..
  14. Good tips here, lots of things I always do. I'll mention a few that I'm not sure I've seen come up.. I always shake the trailer when I hook it on to the truck to see if anything moves in the up down, kind of the same as using a jack, works best with a light boat. I put my hand on and around my hubs at each stop, checking quickly for heat/leaks. I always make sure my tires are less than about 6-7 years old. They don't get worn down, but they're not that expensive at all, and I like having the peace of mind. Plus, you can sell the ones on the trailer to help cover the cost, to someone who likes to live more dangerously! I also always have a half dozen extra rowing boat straps on me, in case I have to tie any/everything down along the way. 2 years ago, pulling out of 3 mile lake, my wife informed me that my "carpet" was floating away. She was talking about my trailer bunker, of course.. I fished it out, and the wood was too rotten to get some screws in, so a couple good wraps with some boat straps, and I was on my way in no time! Also, maybe check your trailer bunkers when the boat is off...
  15. I had a bunker float away on me last year when I tried to pull my boat out of three mile lake before a trip home after a week. My wife was waiting by the boat and exclaimed "the carpet is floating away!". I luckily had some boat straps, rescued the "carpet" that was floating away (the bunker that runs the whole distance of the boat) and strapped it to the trailer in two spots.. Got me home.
  16. Good advice here, guys! I've been in the exact same situation, and it can be very scary!
  17. I also only have one key. I keep it in my truck, because the boat is never without the truck.
  18. I'll be up there Sunday, at Memquisite for my first stay there! If you see a 17' bass tracker, come by and say hi! I'll tell you what I'm catching fish on! (I'll give you some hints already, white grubs, black grubs, and white Colorado blade spinner baits)
  19. Thanks guys! Dan, thanks so much for the offer! I would have taken you up on it if I had the time! Smokestack, thanks for the advice. What's hot right now?! Will smallies be easy to find up there? Pike? Plan on throwing a lot of spinner baits along shorelones and 3“ grubs. Maybe 7" worm if the water presents itself. I'm so excited!
  20. Thanks guys. I just went to the garage and had another look, the wheels spin quite freely andont really make unusual noises, no grinding, or squeaks. Its just a long trip, I worry about stuff like this.. I'm confident the fishing will be good, looks like its going to cool down a bit over the next couple of nights!
  21. Hi guys, this Saturday we're heading up for our first stay on the pickerel river at pine grove resort. We met them at the london boat and fishing show, and they're accepting of the fact we have a bernese mountain dog, so everyone's happy. : ) I'm wondering if anyone is from the area or has been up there, stayed there and can offer any advice. I really hope we can get into some pickerel, I stayed on the river once before at cedar village and all we could find were small mouth. Don't get me wrong, I love those buggers too. Also, jacked up there trailer the other day and noticed I have s smallamount of play in the wheel top to bottom. Is this cause for concern, and would filling the bearing buddies be of any help? Thanks Ken
  22. This topic hits close to home for me; I work for Toyota and I hear a lot of talk like this.. I think we should be thankful to have good jobs that allow our lives to be easy, a lot of people in Ontario work a lot harder for a lot less! Sure, the company you work for is rich as "carp", but that's why you work for them in the first place. Its a very tough job market out there, without (and even with) an education its very tough to make over $20 an hour. Its a crazy world out there, but in order for us to stay competitive in the market and even have manufacturing jobs in the future, we can't all eat lobster all the time. appreciate the things you have, stop worrying about fat cats!
  23. Nothing too offshore about a Matrix, I've made a few of them. Thanks for helping a fellow OFC'r!
  24. I've had navionics and liked it, but also, ifish Ontario.. I haven't used that one, but it looks good..
  25. Seems like a simple question, but I'm leaving for 3 mile lake for a week on Saturday and I'm wondering if I can take my girlfriends card in with me and renew her sticker? Thanks!
