Good to see/hear! I'm heading up to rice for this long weekend and really don't know anything about the lake but would really love to get into at least a few walleyes for at least one meal. Is there fish right in the Otanabee river there? Can I rent a boat somewhere around there? I think the place I'm staying is called Alpine..

Using just an epoxy on a crack in your hull is asking for the crack to come back, get worse. The glue itself has nothing to hold it together, or keep it from popping off. I had a similar problem on my Bass Tracker (wich apparently people don't like) when I bought it, there was a tear in the aluminum so to speak, that was right on the the corner of the hull so a straight patch like the ones posted above wouldn't do. I built carbon fiber/fiberglass boats for over 5 years, so to me the solution was obvious. I cut a peice of glass bigger than the slit in the hull, marked it, sanded inside of it with some 80 grit paper, and layed the glass on with this epoxy: http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=4882 The patch has been on there for over three years now, I do 35mph on the water and I'm not gentel on it, and there's not leaks at all.

I'm going on Satruday, looking to pick up a new baitcasting rod as I broke two last summer. Also, want to talk to some lodges about may long weekend and perhaps weddings.

lower buckhorn clear or stained waters??
Bass Tard replied to sandmann's topic in General Discussion
I use white/black/green/brown on lower buckhorn! -
Cool, if we're in that area I'll check it out for sure. You guys have all been a super help, and if I don't get eaten by a bear I'll make a report when I get home. Thanks again X1000!

Thanks man, from my searches for 6 mile, you were the guy to post on it the most. I'll keep those spots in mind. Its good that the lake will be easy to shoot across, I've got a 50hp on a Basstracker so we'll get there in good time. I'm going to have to pick up a map of this place and check it out before I go.

I've stayed at Three Castles by the dam for the last three years. First two we were there for Canada Day week, and this year we were there mid-july. I do most of my fishing in the small bays there close to camp, I find it some of the easiest water to find good cover in. I fished a big rock wall at the north east side of deer bay and got into some good smallies action there this summer, but for the most part I find the fishing better where the lake is more narrow and bay-ee?!!?! There's an osprey nest just inside the channel heading up to the lock, I have good luck in both of those bays, the island(s) in front of the marina are good too, most of my fish are right in between the island and the channel there, but the boat traffic makes it tough to fish at times. Now we expect a report. Oh, and I've caught a few fish up in the shallow bays north of deer bay (my first muskie), but for the most part its all so shallow I find the fishing a bit tough, esepcially after all this warm weather. My advice would be head up towards Buckhorn and fish where the lake gets narrower. Good luck!

Cool cool, thanks for those images Dar! My campsite will be right were the huge bear is. How long of a boat ride is it to crooked bay, and in what kind of boat? I'm wondering if I'll be able to fish the whole lake?! I won't be fishing your spot, my goal will mostly be concentrating on islands and drop-offs to get some smallies, I can go to long point and get largemouth and pike at any time. And not so afraid of rattle snakes, but I will keep an eye out. Do bears smell empty beer bottles? Damn Yogi, why doesn't he just leave people alone and catch carp? No one cares about carp!
-
Thanks Dar, we might very well swing by and say hi. Maybe get some tips about your secret spots. Darn though, the bears thing I'm not sure if I'm super excited about. I might leave all the food outside the truck and sleep inside of it. Hurry up weekend!!!

Cougars and wolves?! Pffftt.. Not scared. Bears?! Scary! C'mon long weekend, I want to catch some smallies! Oh, does any one know anything about wood? Do I have to buy it there in their park, or can I bring my own? Cougars....

Toyota recalling another 200,000 vehicles
Bass Tard replied to lookinforwalleye's topic in General Discussion
Some of us OFNers rely on you's buying Toyotas. -
Good responses so far, thanks for the help guys! We already asked about the booze, and they said it was fine there for the weekened. We generally go camping on the long weeekends because its cheaper than renting a cottage for only a few sleeps, so we're used to keeping our boozing reltativley low key. As much as I like to fish all day and all night, we both have fun when we unwind at night and have some laughs. How do I make sure no bears come in to camp? Is keeping all foods/garbage in the 4runner good enough? I've been up north lots and in Petawawa was the only place I ever really seen bears, but normally I'm in a cottage and don't think about winding up a canvas hot-dog in my tent. Mostly looking to catch smallies, I think I'll be fishing a lot of grubs/jigs on rock piles and drop offs. When I get into some weeds it will probably be a spinner bait and a texas rigged worm. I'm glad there's not a lot to run into, its always a scary factor when you get on a new lake and you want to open the boat up but have to stay cautious the whole time. Maybe we'll check out bala?! Too bad there's only two of us, that means someone has to be the sucker and a DD. Is there taxis out there? Thanks guys, I'll get pictures and share!

Hey all! So the other day my girlfriend asked me if I wanted to go camping at six mile PP for the long weekend, of course the answer was yes, I didn't even need to know anything about the lake. I just love getting the eff out of the city! I did some searching on here, Google didn't really give me any decent results. Seems like Smallmouth and Pike are what we're going to be catching and I'm super cool with that. I love catching smallies on my ultra light! Few questions though: [*] Is there bears in the park? Like, do we have to be careful with what we do with our food or anything like that? I figured I would just keep it in the 4runner to be safe, but curious if it might be a problem!? [*] Whats the camp grounds like? The lake I assume will be really busy?! [*] Whats the lake like? Am I going to be super careful not to hit rocks, or are they well marked? Staying in the middle I should be fine? [*] Is there some place we can get coffees/beer somewhere close, or should I make sure I have that stuff with me? Anything else about the lake or camp would be great to know. If you've been there I'd love to hear what you thought of it. Pictures of fishes or camps would be awesome too. Let's hear what you've got OFC! Thanks Ken

I used an epoxy from West Systems on the bottom of my Tracker because I couldn't get at the other side to buck the rivets. Its called G-Flex, do a google search on it you'll get a lof of good information.

I love Dave Mercer for posting on OFC.

I've used an expoxy from West Systems on the bottom of my boat for 2 years now. Its a fiberglass patch on an aluminum boat. We used to use it at my old boat shop to hold in bulkheads, we used the name Plexus but its technical name was MA310, and MA330 for the hardener.. I just found a link: http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=4882 Its been great for me, but sticking anything to plastic is always a little sketchy in my experience.

I like old cut, its cheap, and depending where the wind is, you're good to go out to millionaires, or in by Marina Shores...

I had the same thing happen to me on my last outing last year and just got around to replacing it today. (first trip out is next weekend) I went to bass pro, they had all the models of props you might need and they all come with everything you need to replace it. It will have the pin inside the prop, and a new plastic nut, but I think I'm going to get a real nut on there tommorow so it doesn't happen again.

I've got the 5.5' Compre with a spriex for my UL setup and I love the crap out of it. I've loved it for probably 6+ years now. Catching smallies and walleye on the UL is super!
-
Lots of good help, thanks guys!
-
Bass, walleye, pike, something along those lines. Either is fine, but we're looking to be able to score a rental boat from somewhere close if it's a private rental, I only have one boat with two seats, and there's six of us. Water access is fine, but again with the one boat thing...

crap-zu is indeed the dog but OFC is too worried about offending anyone by our dog species.. More details: I have a 17' aluminum bass boat that I will be bringing but we will be looking to rent a boat from somewhere nearby, or on the resort or whatever. Beach we don't care about, we'll be relaxing in the sun for fun, fishing, and perhaps having some beer but none of us are swimmers. And it's for July 10-18th ish. Normally we go away for Canada day long weekend but I just started a new job and I'm on contract for now and can't control when I get time off, hence looking for a new destination. Thanks for the help so far guys!

Okay, so we're not able to make our usual trip to the usual place this summer due to restrictions with time off and now we're scrambling to find something soon so we don't miss our vacation. This place seems like people would know where they stay and what's good. What we're looking for: Lakefront 3+ bedrooms 4ish hour drive from London crap-zu's allowed Any help would be appriciated, its so hard to find good information online, a lot of it is cobbled or just poorly marketed. Thanks!

I grew up in Tillsonburg and fished little lake quite a bit. We used to go out there in a little two seater "bass" boat with just and electric motor and fish it all day. I always used the smallest spinner bait I could get my hands on and we would catch 100 fish a day easily, lots of crappies and the occasional largemouth. Nothing of major sizes, but there's huge quantity all around the outer edge.

Is your float tube orange, and is this in pond mills? I used to fish a big pond there just off Southdale and maybe I've seen you out there. I haven't went out there this year. After buying a boat the tube become a dust collector.
