Can't wait to get back out next weekend. Splashhopper PS... what martial art are the girls in ? My 11 year old daughter, Botbot, is heavily involved in Taekwondo and it has been a very rewarding discipline of her since she was 5 years old.

Bummer to hear that for the two of you.... My wife and I experienced a similar situation in 2000.. In retrospect, our relationship grew stronger and our priorities in life got re-arranged in to a direction that we had never truly appreciated before. The best advice given to our family at that time was "staying on the 24 hour plan" and observing an "attitude of gratitude". God bless and prayers from London Splashhopper and family

Well the unions are gonna have their way, yet again, with the tax payers in the city of London.. I say this after the head of the local union made comments on the local AM talk radio station Friday that he was LOOKING FORWARD to Arbitration. Insinuating that the arbitration board will not be fair and they will get what they want.. what do they want you ask?..... SIXTEEN PERCENT increase ( wages and benefits combined) over 3 years ! This in a city with the second highest unemployment rates in the entire country... the tax base falling out from under us... The city has offered them 8.5-9 % over three years. Seems reasonable in these uncertain times to me... see here>> http://www.ltconline.ca/ Hell, they are getting a damned good package as it is to DRIVE A BUS ... There are lots of unemployed eligible truck drivers that would LOVE to have the security of these guys packages and be home at night with their families ! The strike is going to DEBILITATE OUR CITY.... we have 65,000 post secondary students alone in this city of 350k ! My daughter is in her 3rd year at Western and has staggered classes all week,,,, sometimes she doesn't finish class till 10pm.... some days she is at school for 8 am.... She relies on that transit system like so many other working people here... I think the transit systems in ALL CITIES should NOT BE ALLOWED to strike.... they should be considered an essential service just like the EMS teams... At the end of the day, the union now has the city by the short and curlies and the city is in a NO-WIN situation.. If they give in to the RIDICULOUS demands of the union, they are NOT doing their jobs as administrators of a city in financial stress. If it goes to arbitration, our drivers will be compared to cities like Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa etc... How UNFAIR is that? The cost of living is not as heavy here as those other cities.... so why should we be expected to pay the same rates? (I personally made a decision to NOT return to Toronto after a business loss here in London a number of years ago and that decision was due to the HIGHER COST of living that I endured for 13 years there previously.) The arbitration "system" in this province needs some SERIOUS review and oversight of PEOPLE that know the value of of a dollar and understand an open market trade system. As of tonight, my wife and I will be trying to coordinate rides to the opposite side of the city for our daughter classes, DURING OUR OWN WORK SCHEDULES! We are somewhat fortunate in that we have two drivers in the family. But.... What about the families that don't ? What about all the workers that don;t have cars ? What about the students? What about the environment? My bottom line here.... TRANSIT SYSTEMS should NOT BE ALLOWED to strike...( see hold ENTIRE communities hostage !)

don't worry about her parents..... you just gave that kid more info about the nature of two of the party's than she will ever learn from them... Now... how would a liberal deal with that issue? they wouldn't... but they would sure as hell pay a lot of money to "understand it" !

Ok....you went out a WHOLE FOUR TIMES... for rainbow trout... and you got skunked.... welcome to trout fishing Stay out on the tribs.... if the line ain't in the water... you will only catch some fish at Loblaws I use 8lb main line attached to a very small swivel and then run a 2-3' 4lb leader which is then tied to a #10 or #12 hook. The split shots can vary depending on the speed of the river( same as the float). I tend to use 1/3 of a dew worm with the tiniest bit of orange / chartreuse yarn on the hook. ( mainly because I don;t catch salmon and don't have much confidence in store bought "roe".) So far this season, I am a big fat ZERO for catching any rainbows.... frustrating ... yes.... but the last two season I have caught over 15 bows each...So I know I can catch em.. Like others have said,,, I am playing with the weights... the leader length... and where I am targeting fish.... Some days... the fish gods smile.... some days.... I gotta pay my dues on the river. That's trout fishing.... But the day I land another one(soon I hope-lol) will be pay off again this season... And if you are feeling frustrated.... keep at it.... the Leafs have for FORTY YEARS !

i have an acquaintance that lost his wife to a deer kill. She hit the deer on the 403 a number of years ago.... DECAPITATED her. Her two daughters were in the back seat at the time.... their mom's head landed on the eldest daughters lap.... My friend got the call from the other daughter while they were still in the car ! The girls still struggle with it and have received all kinds of counseling for bereavement and PTSD. I say,,, let the hunters do their job... cull the herds to manageable numbers in their respective areas of the country.

For those who use trolling motors on your canoe
splashhopper replied to scugpg's topic in General Discussion
I don't know how much the digital one weighs,,,, but mine weighs about 10-15 lbs.... and is on the side. It does NOT make the canoe tilt, if that is what you are wondering. -

Just started using a canoe ( 11 ft sportspal)with a 36lb thrust (side mount) Motorguide electric motor a few weeks ago....love it, can troll all weekend if I keep the motor in the two slowest speeds... top gear and that little canoe hums across the ponds I sit on the battery box ( my canoe doesn't have seats) and have my gear up front. -
