sooo.. after a frustrating day on the Thames river North east of London, I stop in at Canadian Tire for some flourocarbon.... the only package that actually said "flourocarbon" was only 10lb test.... I am gonna go to my local specialty tackle shop tomorrow and get the 20-30 from him. then watch the knot tieing videos' and tie just my snap swivel only to the red devil in the picture I posted and maybe,,, just maybe,,,, go down to St Thomas and try for some pike there. after work... stay tuned

My buddy and i intended on following some small tribs along Lake Erie from Pt Stanley all the way over to Long Point yesterday... We fished for an hour at Pt Stanley, off the rocks, with minnows on a pickeral rig.... nothing.... notta.. So we head out and grab some more minnows, "just in case" from a local guy... Real glad we did too... drove a little while and decided to drop in and see a friend of ours for a coffee at his trailer along the way... he was dipping the net for minnows in the marina when we got there... first thing he asks, " you guys wanna go out for some perch" ? uhh... yeah Jumped in his boat... and within 20-30 minutes we were marking fish... my buddy and I knew we made the right decision to drop in for the coffee... We didn't stay out too long, but here is our first perch for us this season When I got home,, mrs splashhopper says " its about time you caught some REAL fish " ! sounds like she wants me to go back out perchin with my buddy to me Splashhopper

The few pike I have caught so far have all been without a wire leader... just a barrel swivel and red devils or yellow five of diamonds and when i put a wire leader on, no action for me... I know they have sharp teeth, i got knicked on the thumb with the first one I caught and that brought back memories of getting bit real bad by one in Saskatchewan when i picked one of my uncles up off a dock that I "thought" was dead So, my question is: Are there leaders that are not wire, but are just as "tooth proof" ? Thanks Splashhopper

JP and sons: We are sorry for the disease with which you are having to walk beside with your wife and mother. My mother in law had Lou Gehrigs Disease and was with us at home up until her last few days in palliative care. During those days at home when grandma couldn't talk to us, we would just be in the room with her... she liked to be on the couch in the living room so that when she woke up, she knew she was not alone. Just being with grandma, while she slept there, was comforting enough for us. Knowing that one day, she was going to go to His garden where she could do the gardening( her favourite past time) He asked of her was the one thing that kept her spirits up. To this day, botbot( mydaughter) knows that her grandma is watching over her everyday from that garden and that she is never alone. I have the same feeling as botbot does too. Only I know my paternal father has watched over me since he passed away when I was 5 years old. I have never felt alone when I try to remember the few memories of him that I had. I pray that your family feels His presence as He calls for his children to come back to Him someday. Sincerely, Splashhopper and botbot PS.. here is one of my favourite prayers in times like this: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy; O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. — Authorities in Florida say a commercial fisherman reeled in a live missile in the Gulf of Mexico and kept it on his boat for 10 days. The sheriff’s office in Pinellas County says the boat’s captain, Rodney Salomon, hooked the air-to-air guided missile 80 kilometres off the Panhandle town of Panama City. The U.S. air force and navy use Gulf waters off the Panhandle for weapons training. Salomon had the missile aboard his boat for 10 days before returning Monday to port in Madeira Beach, near St. Petersburg. A bomb squad was called in from MacDill Air Force Base and dismantled the missile in an empty parking lot. The bomb squad said the missile was very corroded from floating in salt water for a long time. They said it was live and in a very unstable state.

1: I was thinking an anchor as welll... just concerned about being pulled into some rapids on the river is all. 2) I stay at a friends place up in Walkerton sometimes and he has no place for me to put the canoe.. So yes, I am concerned about the canoe being stolen there. There must be some way of securing a canoe to the roof racks on my Dodge Caravan Thanks splashhopper

I went out on a kayak trip with one of the OFC guys here( name escapes me... sorry ) last summer on the Maitland river. It was a very peaceful day on the river...only a few smallies were caught... but i learned a few things about the river. i only got into a couple of small smallies.... but one of them pulled me right in to a bush... I had no way of stopping the kayak. My questions about a canoe or a kayak are: 1) How the heck do I stop the boat when I get a fish on? ( can't imagine where a good sized trout or pike will pull me to ! 2) How do I secure the boat to the roof of my van and not get it stolen ? Thanks splashhopper
