Perfect panners Jacques. Wicked fishing. If my girls were just a little younger they'd have an aneurysm from the excitement of watching those little fish heads fry in the pan.

I like ones with narrower arms just in case the current hat gets tight to the top of my ears. That way, my ears don't stick out as much when I wear both. Polarized sunglasses... amber lenses. Couldn't much care what brand as long as they're cool enough looking, don't argue with me and do what they're supposed to do.

Some stellar photos. Read this last night. Gave a grin when you mentioned about hiking in the beer. The second pic reminds me very much of a portage taken just before 9/11 while up in Temagami doing much the same you and your crew did. Great report.

Started with a float tube... and likely when I'm old and grey and they've taken my licenses away, I'll end in one too. So many solid options but it's all based on your use and budget. Pontoon boats if you're not hoofin' them in too far and have the car space are a better plan than a float tube really. Good luck!

"You're going to a small" lake for the "weekend." RC... I say you just pound on anything that looks fishy until you get what you're after. And depending where in the N.E. or the lake temps/characteristics, you can certainly catch pike in shallow (under 10 feet) but more likely in ANY cabbagio you find.

I surely hope folks "hunting" gar and other fish species like that, treat the fish like they would any animal taken. You know, eat the meat or mount the head or the fish. That gar is a heckuva creature and there have been some others like it seen online before that were hunted to be killed. This guy though seems like a bit a piece of work and didn't by his report hunt in too safety smart a manner. Things could have gotten bad for him. Thanks for that link for sure though FL. Amazing big fish. No not headed to Texas anytime soon but one of those on an ultralight, maybe some catfish noodlin' and giant largie slay would be a fun go in the BIG State!!! Wonder what gar tastes like??? I "heard" the eggs were poisonous to other fish but don't know if that's true???
