  1. I see a big fish at the moment... and am blind to the rest. You're having a great muskie season man!!!
  2. Choosing to stand up, and alone, against a few controlling fishing bullies I've taken some personal beatings this year... Put alot of thought, time and heart into supporting a friend and fishing partner through cancer too... But otherwise, winter was short yet good fishing, spring was great, summer has been excellent, and the future now holds even better possibilities to fish abroad, alongside Brenda more, and hopefully with other friends who keep it real. It's taken just 3 years since moving home to "The Valley," but Bren and I are pretty sure we've landed on solid ground now. Without a lifetime of fishing the area as well, the opportunities and learning I have had for fishing in all seasons here, I feel I can take some pride in. We're all quite lucky as anglers to live pretty much anywhere in Ontario, because the experiences to be had seem endless. It's funny this question came up, because while fishing today it was on the mind. Today's outing on the water though... tough go on the smallies, only a few and called it early.
  3. Don't know if I understand half of bassfighter's points but will say this... In some respects I too don't always get it. I mean, having to always rush a fish to the boat, or even have that mentality that one must do so. There's many times, species and variables that make it sensible to just get a fish in the boat quick. But, there's times too that one could easily allow lighter gear and longer play time when a fish is on the line. And yes, it is enjoyably sporting to do that when and if you want, and no it doesn't always mean a fish is going to die.
  4. Quality Ron. In fact, some of the best muskie fishing I've seen posted. Wicked fish dood!
  5. Caught this earlier and thought... SPOT ON !!! That was a great read, thanks!
  6. Right On PAB!!! Solid ski and it looks like a scenic place to fish 'em!
  7. Uni to Uni for pretty much every connection. If the leader is a really thick diameter then an albright.
  8. I thought the same at first... but thinking about it more, Snidley did point out that they may be more suited to salmon fishing, possibly more West Coast. The moving lure and some river current combined would like give lots of resistance to spin a small french blade..? Anyways, cool lure. Mepps rule!!!
  9. It's just so shniddy to know this is happening again to Jen and you all. Just be well Jen. Kick it's narse and have done with it this time. This round be as strong as always, all of you.
  10. Not a huge fan of cold fronts overall, but will say that in the past there have been some days that the really BIG fish have come first day/hours of that cold front hitting. Lakers through the ice, bigger spring walleye and specks many times over seem to be good cold front fish for me. Pike and bass, not generally. What to do... fish as usual and/or slow down the same techniques you have confidence in. Adding some live bait helps too.
  11. Nice catching up a little the other night Mike. Let's not leave it too long ti'll next time. Thoroughly enjoyed the report, of course. Special interests obviously... and so many first-hand stories from others about that place. There's never been a person met from Peawanuck I didn't like, they are the most genuine folk and true to their roots. Unspoiled. Never met Albert while up north, but did talk with his brother Xavier about the Sutton once when he was in Moose Factory, and his sister Margaret (RN) a number of times. She told the same story you did, about gliding over the schools of trout while going down the river. Also, mentioned the new weeds. Kinda sad really, knowing that it won't be the same way forever after having been the same way for eons. Pike might begin to overrun some parts in time, but you and Bill surely tell that there's gotta be a billion specks in that river to keep it troutful. I have 3 river regrets after leaving the north... Kwetabohagan, the Moose all the way to Hell's Gate, and this river. So close, but never a partner willing to share it with. You and Bill are so lucky, and it's more than a treat to see all the pics from the land. Not quite what I had envisioned, a little less tundra, pretty well taiga, and very much like the Ekwan. Howled at the Bill's pregnant comment... Appreciated the many pics and rundown of events. Thanks, and well done gents!
  12. Use braid for pretty much everything now. Stickler for tying floro leads to the business end. For jiggin' eyes, 8-10lb PowerPro with 6-8lb, 2-4 foot floro leads. Trolling eyes on Quinte, 40lb PowerPro with 12-14lb, 40 foot floro leads.
  13. Holy some wicked pics there FNS! Looks like a great time for all involved. Friends just chillin' and fishin'. Can't beat a weekend of that.
  14. Your wife says that too!!! Appreciated Al. Good luck on the last days. It was and he is. Nice to hear from ya Tony. Lotsa weeks deprived this summer Ehg. Lotsa! And they were cute. Had to take note. lol. Thanks!
  15. I'm calling yer bluff. Cough it up dood! Awesome stuff Dan. Explain to me please; as I must have missed it, what it is you're up to with all this jet-setting around the Ring Of Fire.
  16. Right on Rich. Been a crazy long time since seeing a big report of that caliber from ya. Keep 'em coming! And btw... you know what's missing from this report eh???
  17. Nightshifts bud. BLAH!!! Gotta pay for all the play. But I got the Aeroplan points covered to Thunder Bay, no problemo! Ahhhhh, you guys are a riot to chill out with. Colin cracks me up and you just get me all excited about all things speckle. Good luck with the surf and turf... sounds like a wicked weekend plan. Fish were hitting best on................................. Ahhhh as if you need my advice.
  18. When doing up the reports my wife doesn't even try to talk to me anymore. She just knows. Thanks Alan. Feel a little weird seeing ya out there, kinda like we're imposing on your turf. You're always there man, it's awesome. And that boat of yours is just too sexy. I was telling Pat I want your life when I retire. It had been 5 years since going up there with him and it was great sharing the boat with him again. We fell in love with the place same time and usually visit her on different schedules. I think for the rest of her days, she'll have to get used to seeing us for a week a year. You know better than most just why that is.
  19. Me tooooooo man. The blue Bob Izumi. Rated 8-14lb. 6'5" medium spinning. I sadly broke it in the garage this spring but it had seen more abuse than any other rod I've owned. One trip to Attawapiskat I broke the tip on a med-heavy Loomis spinning rod first day, then second day wrecked the worm gear in my baitcaster and all I was left with for the trip was the Bob rod. Well HOLY SMOKES!!! It tamed giant gators and chucked 12-inch inline muskie bucktails all week and still rocked on. Wished I hadn't broke it, should have retired it.
  20. Albany... Uhhhh! Good for you for sticking that out so long then. Stevie B... I call him StevieZ in the reports... or the "Agent Stevie Zebco." First time I fished with him he showed up with a telephone pole Rhino Rod and push button Zebco reel. Spooled up with 20lb mono and a 2 foot steel leader he was ready to jig up dink walleyes. lol. He's come a long way... and man I love that guy. Great friend. Like me, he never lies or even exaggerates... lol. They're all BIG fish!
  21. Sharp looking Ski Roy, and cool pic. There's a fish species I can't catch for the life of me. lol.
  22. Thanks again gents. My buddy Tony caught the report at F-H, enjoyed it much, and seeing his big fish pics first time has gotta be grinning ear-to-ear today. Speckie fishing good, laker fishing great... so I know I hesitated for Tony before chucking back that sucker. No live bait on the lake but some strips of sucker on the spoons mighta been helpful. Anyhow, it got tossed back. Was probably around 35 pounds. lol. j/k.
  23. Ohhhh I gots lots of that kinda stuff from back in me days with the Spirits of the North Woods. All true... and don't you go thinking otherwise.
  24. Great show kid. More trips and pics with Lianna please. lol. I was gonna ask "why Wabusk?" But you made that clear enough when you said you were employed in James Bay. I think you might have missed the chance at some great fishing up there on the Moose. Just guessing. Stick around dood, the photos are great, your writing clean and the intent just perfect for this place.
  25. Incredible! Bucketlist material times two for sure Dan.
