  1. Never fished the Karwarthas, but I throw the Top Raider quite a bit. Had a nice big blow-up on it last year, but the fish missed the lure. Would have loved to get a look at her.
  2. Weedbeds with a healthy bunch on cabbage or reeds. Rocky shoals - open water or coming off or in proximity to islands. Guess it depends on what I'm fishing for.
  3. Here's a few pics from last year's GTG. Oh well ... someone had to win it. (Don't ask ) Fish Fry and picnic after the pike derby. Fantastic Prize table. All who enter the derby end up with some nice baits. Reminder to all who are coming, be sure to bring along a few things to jiuce up the prizes. First annual (we hope) ONFC Friday noon shore lunch on Tombstone island. Just one of the many highlights of our GTG - you don't want to miss it.
  4. I use 80# PP for my musky/pike rods. For bass, I am using 12# Stren superbraid. I have a couple rods with mono for pan fishing, but I don't use them very often.
  5. My wife and I, with our our two four-legged girls, will be coming in Thursday around noon for Cabin 5. We'll be staying until the following Thursday to engage in some musky action. I came alone last year, as my first time, and had more than a fantastic time. If anyone is wondering about coming up for the first time ... wonder no more. Every one of the members there will make you feel wecome. I know they all did for me.
  6. That's a nice pike in anyone's book.
  7. To all you men and women, regardless of borders, I say thank you for your sacrifice and to the service of your respective countries. To those of whom we know, and those whom we do not, who gave the last full measure to their country, I drop my knee in honor and rememberance. Blessed is he who lays down his life for another. May God richly bless them all and grant them eternal peace.
  8. Big Jim's a great guy and have met him a couple times when we were in Smith's Falls. My father and step mother had the opportunity to spend a day on the water with Jim. I know he'll beat this thing.
  9. Welcome aboard. One of my dreams is to, someday, have a summer cottage north of the border. Looks like you're on a great spot. So that's what a musky looks like ... been a couple years for me. Hope to land one this year. Good to have you on bard Jack.
  10. Great intro and love those pics. Too bad you forgot about us ... just don't let it happen again. Welcome back and you got a great eye for pics.
  11. Ahhhhhh. The Florida Keys and Key West. Been quite a few years since I was down there. Would love to go back some day. I'm assuming you all did the Duval Crawl whilst you was there ? Great report and pics CH. Can't imagine spending 45 mins to land a single fish.
  12. Ahhhhh ... A French River Report. Already great to read and view all the pics. 4 more months and I'll be there. Good to hear you great week-end. Too bad all weekend aren't the Looooong variety.
  13. Hey .. Ya didn't get skunked .. which happens to a lot of us. next time you'll have better luck and more fish to take pics of.
  14. Great report Mr. Bunker. Love it !
  15. If you hadn't said it was a painting, my first reaction was a great photograph - it's quite realistic and sure does capture the scene and the mood. Very nicely done.
  16. Fantastic Read Solopaddler. Oh man, that would stink - losing the whole dang prop and of course, so far from camp. Good you didn't let it ruin your trip and there was a spare close by. On our trips, I carry a spare with me - sure hope I never have to use it. Greate report S/P and thanks for taking the time to post it. Nice detailed reports like this make us feel as if we were there.
  17. Yup - I made a photocopy of the regs to have them in the boat with us.
  18. I had a couple Gerritt models some years back and really enjoyed getting out once in a while. I found a number of silver coins with the oldest being a dime from the 1890's. Oldest coin found was an 1864 2 cent piece from the states. Found quite a lot of coins, few cheap rings, and loads of trash. I haven't used them in years, but keep thinking about getting a newer model and picking it up again. You'll have a lot of fun with those things. Just fill in the holes and dispose of all the trash you dig properly. Remember, no place is totally "hunted" out.
  19. OMG. I can't even imagine getting news like that. Truely sorry to hear of your loss.
  20. Let a nice one for me ... I'll be at Wolseley Lodge in September.
  21. I'll give it a test here.
  22. Nice reprt Paulyboy. I was up at Auld Reekie probably back around 1994. We did pretty well on bass along the shore lines. I wanted to catch some pike, but didn't catch a one on the lake there at Auld Reekie. We did take a one-day fly in, my first, and caught some night sized pike. That was a trip that I'll never forget as while my father, step-mother, and I were there, we received a call from home that my G-father (my Dad's dad) had passed away in Florida. Packed up and heading out first thing in the morning for a 16 hour drive back home. Dumb luck had us driving through Toronto during the remnant of a hurricaine that had come up through the states. Yeah - quite the memorable trip for me. Really nice place and we had a great time there ... looks like you are doing the same. Thanks for taking the time to post the report. really neat.
  23. I'm not connected through wireless means, wiht cell phones, etc. But, from my PC at the house, I can access my PC at work and do everything from home. Essentially I could work from home and not have to worry about that dang phone ringing all the time. Being a programmer, when problems arise, I no longer have to drive into work to see what's going on.
  24. Great post Garritt. Prayers to all our OFC brothers and sisters with family and friends in China. Terrible tradegy and hopes that survivors will be found in those collapsed buildings. Just can't imagine anything like that and what those directly impacted must be feeling. My prayers to all of them.
  25. Attaboy Art .. sounds like a plan for this evening. Hopes ya have a great day.
