  1. why is the oil based paint no good? its for metal. I would figure water based paint would be no good for a boat.
  2. thanks for the all the advice guys. I caught 2 muskies this weekend and my wife caught her musky as well. the mepps #5 spinner caught a really nice one, didnt get a weight on it (forgot, was worried about keeping it out of water to long). And we caught two smaller ones trolling. Do you guys leave both trebles on the lures? One of the mukies we caught was smaller and when it jumped out of the water it hooked itself in the back on the back treble on a large lure with large hooks. I felt really bad for the fish as it caused a bit of bleeding and will leave a scar for sure. It had one treble on its mouth but the lure is large so when it jumped it bent its back and the back treble hooked him.
  3. Related post. Im painting my aluminum boat (its bare metal), and I bought the self etching primer rust oleum. I also bought roll on tremclad oil based paint (which appears to be the canadian version of rust oluem products). I just need to find a clear coat for it but not sure what clear coat to put on top. Any one have any luck doing this process?
  4. This is a very beginner basic question. So I was fishing this weekend, and all three days had different conditions and different results for bass. First day was calm water and overcast and the fishing was amazing on slow plastics presentations. Next day was calm but very sunny and hot fishing was not as good but still ok on plastics again. Last day was overcast nut quite windy and we had zero luck. My question is for each of those conditions what types of lures work best for bass. So overcast calm day, clear skies sunny calm water, and then windy rough water. I never really know when it's best to theough a spinnerbait or a crank bait, or to move to slow presentations soft plastics.
  5. Still considering a gas motor as well. Just haven't found one in my budget. The electric motor I wouldn't take out to the lake portion. Just the rover.
  6. Ya I intend to get a good battery. I got the endurance Maxx so it shows usage I think.
  7. Ive noticed similar. I thought I was just doing poor at fishing, but Sturgeon has been less bites this year for me.
  8. Its Sturgeon Lake. Its a busy lake and usually pretty choppy. The tin boat doesnt have a HP rating on it, its fairly old from what I can tell, but it floats. I looked for the HP rating and never found one. I imagine its topped out a 9.9. Its 12ft 3 row seating.
  9. Can you troll with a small HP engine? I mainly just want to troll the river, Im not to interested in the ability to go fast or far. I just need something to go short distances, and keep the boat in place.
  10. Well it looks like this year isn't the year for a complete boat purchase. We do have a small 12ft tin boat with no motor. I was thinking of just getting a 50lb trolling motor transom mount. It wouldn't probably make it to the main part of the lake but I could cruise all the scugog river with it. The other option on a little more costly is getting like a 9hp has motor. Not sure which woukd be more beneficial.
  11. Itll be on Sturgeon Thats not what I was thinking at all.....That looks like something for duck hunting Fishing, 3 people max. No tubing. I dont really know what brands are good, what brands arent good. What age is a cutoff to stop looking. What HP motor to look at.
  12. Well I think it's time I look at a boat for myself. I'm looking used and sub $10,000. I've scoured kijiji and trader a bit now but I honestly have no idea what I'm looking for. I know I don't want it to old and I'd prefer it to be ready to go with fish finder and trolling motor. Any suggestions with brands and models. Even perhaps engine sizes and styles of boat.
  13. I hope this is sarcasm because I already bought one! lol. It seemed like a smaller version of the other bucktail inline spinners.
  14. Anything other than Lunge Haven? There rental is about $150 a day it looks like. Would like something for the Canada Day weekend.
  15. Thanks for the advice. The water is quite warm in the shallows right now too, boat said it was 24*c in the 4 foot range. I wonder why Musky fishing opens in June if the summer is the hardest on them.
  16. I find it gets hit hard for bass fishing and anytime I've gone out my luck is low for bass, but Im also fishing on a massive pontoon boat and fish wherever the boat is, not key locations.
  17. Thanks for the tips, all look like great options. I have most of what you listed already other than the hook cutters. Are musky predominately a shallow water fish? the one I found was only in 4' of water on the outside of a weed bed, is that a normal hideout?
  18. Great pictures, tiger musky looks great.
  19. Could you explain how the rod would kill a fish? I imagine if you caught a larger fish by accident you could adjust drag to accommodate for the larger fish and not break line. I'm not sure how the rod size or stiffness could impact a fishes life?
  20. South end, on the river, near Lindsay. On the west side of the lake/river.
  21. Ouch expensive list, my bass rod seemed to handle the musky okay, but that might have been a one off. The bass rod is heavy action 6'6" with 60lb braid already, its meant for flipping heavy cover and pulling fishing out.
  22. In the summer spend a fair bit of time on Lake Sturgeon as my in-laws live on the lake. Trouble is they don't have a fishing boat, just a large pontoon, which is great for group outings, but not good for fishing. Was wondering if there are any places that rent fishing boats for the day or weekend in the area.
