  1. I'd try it first before going too far with the repairs. I had one of these motors and they can take a beating. I never changed anything on it, not even the plugs. It ran like a top every season I had it, gave it to my cousin and it's still running. Just try it in a garbage can and if it spits water by itself, the impeller might not be done. On the other hand I have a 15 Yammie that is only about 8 years old and had to change the impeller on it. It was a really easy job, I hadn't done it before and it took about an hour and most of that was figuring out where the impeller was LOL. But I'd give it a try in a garbage can full of water and see how it is. You'll know more after that then you can worry about what to do to it.
  2. They need something conductive like metal or solder to complete the circuit and generate heat. Braid isn't conductive so it won't complete the circuit. Might want to try Bass Pro or LeBaron. Those would be a good place to start or eBay. Let me know if you find something, I am interested in one of these too.
  3. Just to let you know what is out there. 2 years ago I got a mid 90's 16 foot deep V aluminum Sprigbok with a '99 25HP merc with a new aluminum steering console put in a year before. The motor ran like a top and the boat doesn't leak a drop, haha that rhymes... Anyway, I got it for $1200 bucks, no trailer but I had one so it wasn't a problem. So if you are patient there are deals to be had and correct me if I'm wrong, you just got a 12 and 9.9 for free right?? I'd use that and watch the classifieds on craigslist, simcoe shopper, kijiji.... Watch them every chance you get because good deals won't last. Good luck with the search.
  4. I actually bought a outboard off of a soldier on CFB Petawawa this weekend. He was promoted with one of the soldiers that died just recently with the 4 from CFB Petawawa. The younger kid, 18, was a replacement and had only been there for 3 or 4 weeks and his father had just filled out the release forms. We were chatting about it and he said "Like I tell my family, I don't work at Walmart". He said that the families really have a tough time, just as bad as the soldiers, with PTSD which makes sense but I had never thought. They built a big building for the families up on base there. He was wounded during that friendly fire where the an aircraft shot and injured 30-some soldiers. He is on his way back soon too. From the people that I know and I have talked to that have been over there and fought, the general consensus is that they want to finish the fight. They know and accept the risks involved but they want to help the afgani people and finish the war. I have the utmost respect for these individuals who serve our country and wish them all a safe return, it's sad that they all won't though.
  5. I do this all the time for Jays games and anything I go to the city for. Beats the traffic and it's cheaper then driving all the way there and paying for parking.
  6. If he had my luck he'd spend about 15 minutes trolling and 4 hours untangling the rats nest I would get with that many lines in the water.
  7. You gotta love Bill Dance. I love the one where his trolling motor comes off in his hand and just goes out of control LOL!
  8. I love to eat fish, fresh is preferred but I'll throw some in the freezer without hesitation. If I lived closer to where I fish I might not have much in the freezer but when you are limited to your time on the water, I'll take frozen fish that I caught over captain highliner any day. Also, if I don't end up getting enough for a feed I'll throw them in the freezer and add them to the fish I get the next trip and have a good feed. I also love wild meat and most types of game, in fact I'm having deer chops tonight, can't keep them fresh lol.
  9. Uhh yeah chalk me up under that 25% that doesn't. Probably should do so soon though.
  10. cool, i'll have to play around with things this summer.
  11. A tax cut is an encouragement to spend money. When the economy was booming, as it was in the last 8 years in the states, people didn't need any added incentive to spend money because they all had lots of it and weren't afraid to spend it. That is why those tax cuts did nothing. Now, in these troubled times, a tax cut would add that incentive to spend money and start to revive the economy. Now by no means is this the only way or the most effective but it is, historically, a way of attempting to stimulate the economy during a recession. This along with a drop in interest rates are stimulants. In the early 80's there was a large recession, the largest since the great depression. What did the states do, they had the largest tax cut in history. What did Canada do during that recession, dropped interest rates from over 20% to under 10%. I agree with the second part, that the rich should pay more taxes because they can afford to but let's not forget who writes up these bills. It's the rich and the rich have rich friends so they are going to cover their own ass and not worry about the middle class. It's unfortunate but that's the way it has always been and so long as the rich are running the country, it's going to stay that way.
  12. Don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm having trouble identifying the fish in the photo . Little help...
  13. I've seen the series and if I recall Theodore was amazing, Hart Trophy amazing. I do respect Koivu for what he did then, overcoming cancer and playing in the NHL is really an amazing feat. But like in all pro sports this question needs to be asked.
  14. looks sweet can't wait to see them on the road!
  15. increasing taxes does not stimulate the economy, cutting taxes does that is a simple fact of economics but Steve screwed it all up and cut taxes while the going was good. So with this increase in taxes he's only going to drive us deeper into a recession.
  16. Go with a spray on bed liner, you won't regret it. oh, bed cover, my bad.
  17. I would stick to the 30lb Kota you already have. The boat is light and those Prowlers might be a little less efficient than the kota. I'll second the Nautilus from CT but they have gone up in price, now they are $140 according to their site. Walmart has Energizers that are around $100. My buddy uses and they have been good for a few years now. As far as a charger, if you are looking to save cash just get one that says it will charge deep cycle batteries. If you have some cash to spend, automatic is nice. CT puts them on sale once a month or so so keep an eye out for them.
  18. Nice lookin beast! They probably had the tank full but burnt 3/4 of it when they pulled it around front for ya haha!
  19. Don't know about that, doesn't even mention fishing HAHA! Found it on my FTA forum site. I was bored and was reading their boating section. I thought it could be used around here, maybe make it a sticky or something so it doesn't disappear. Enjoy fellas!
  20. Just took a look at that site and it has a sweet map. I'll be using it this summer for sure. Thanks.
  21. I'm a member of the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation and we fish Ryan in the winter. There are some nice splake in there. My personal best at that lake is a 7 pounder. When you come in from Shirley you will be at the west end of the lake, we fish out front of the island on your right and down on the west side of the island on the east end of the lake. I'd have to ask my grandpa about the other lakes. He has fished those lakes for probably 65 years and knows every lake in that section of the park. I'll talk to him this weekend and see what he says about McKaskill. As far as the portages, from Crotch to Shirley it looks around 700m(not marked for some reason) and Shirley to Ryan is 515m. Then you have a 230m to a small lake, 545m to Shrew and 2355m to a tiny pond and a 40m to McKaskill.
  22. This can't be real. He is wearing Flip Flops! If it is that's crazy stupid!
  23. Those water shots are amazing. Is there any way to do something like that with a Sony DSC-H2 or is a SLR required to make the adjustments? I would imagine a tripod is needed as well.
  24. Yeah the only downside with the all in one is that sometimes a post will get buried.
  25. Thought I would share this with everyone. Found it on another forum so I figure it's public information. The site has most repair manuals for any engine you can think of. Outboards, generators, automobiles etc. Enjoy! Repair Site User ID: greatfalls Password: publiclibrary
