  1. Glad the weather held out for you guys! Congrats!
  2. I think with Shimano there are certain brakes that are stronger than the others. I think others should tell you about that because I don't own a Shimano BC. As far as starting with it, half on and half off is a good start. You're gonna start turning a lot of them off once you get the hang of it. I myself like to turn on the brakes opposite to each other, but I'm not too sure they even make a difference.
  3. This one is much better than the last one. There were too many gimmicks like breaking paintballs and crushing fluoresecent lights in the last one. Only thing is I rather him drive the subaru.
  4. Well, got too much time on my hands today as my homework was done, and didn't get to go out fishing on such a beautiful night, so I'm online browsing fishing stuff...Great thing is, I stumbled onto this video where I found of Dave Mercer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-affiREbKI&feature=player_embedded Cheers!
  5. You can also sell one of those 3 for 25 and almost get all your money back
  6. Sorry to hear Marvin. For sure he's there looking out for you though.
  7. Looks like an awesome trip! When exactly was this trip? I've not been getting topwater hits in quite a while.
  8. Nice fish Cudz! Enjoy your free food!
  9. Depending on the size of the hole in the tungsten, you can even use something like dental floss. Wrap the dental floss around your line 3-5 times, then with the 2 tag ends, make an overhand knot that has been doubled over 3-5 times. If you can't visualize it, look up bobber stopper knots. Otherwise, I really recommend you order it from BPS. They sell like 45 of those stoppers for like 2 bucks, and if you find yourself something else you want to ship, it won't be so bad in shipping.
  10. Senko's seem to be a very effective method, and it's a great invention that provided me with the best bass I've caught all year! But besides that, I think I would have to give the favourite to the spinnerbait. They actually work for more than you actually think. Deep, shallow, topwater. Heck, even skip it under docks and cover in the middle of the afternoon! They're especially fun when you are watching your spinnerbait get retrieved back and all of a sudden a shadow pulls the spinnerbait under! Frogs come in right after, and they're only not my favourite because it seems that the topwater bite is almost over.
  11. I say with the Cumulus rod, don't EVER go anything less than a Curado....You've already shelled out for the top of the line rod, and you might as well do the same with the reel. It's going to be a journey to learn, and I still backlash(3-5 times per outing at least). You can cast far, but start with something like a frog and learn the casting..Casting in the backyard with a 1/2oz weight is good practice too.
  12. I'm thinking the rest of the softwater season would be awesome! We might see the fish put on the feedbag for a longer time because the water temps don't plummet too quickly. Always have the optimism for a stellar year! Only except it would put my ice season late..Hopefully it doesn't start too late..
  13. I guess if replacing that rod and spending more money is big on your list, by all means go for it. But IMO, spinnerbaits are pretty hard to miss bites as it's not going to be a light bite at all. Replacing that combo practically only means that your combo will be lighter/more balanced. You'll enjoy that 7'6 for practically everything, pitching and flipping. I just received a Dobyns 7'6H today and it feels pretty nice too! It seems that your problem is not having enough setups to not need to retie every time you want to use a different technique. What I'm hoping to have by the end of this year is to have: 6'6ML -Spinning- Dropshotting 7'M -Spinning- Shakeyheads/General Purpose (Light cranks, Variety of plastics) 6'MH-Spinning - Senkos/Plastics 7'MHCasting - Spinnerbaits/Cranks/Frogs/Lipless Cranks 7'6HCasting - Jig/Frogs/Punching Then we'll both need like 15 setups and a huge bass boat so that you have a bunch of colours and sizes on different rods and never retie while fishing!
  14. Nice fish dude! I am using a 6' MH for senko's actually. Don't know if that's overkill, but I've been throwing that for 2 years now and didn't notice anything bad about it either. I used 20-30# braid with it. Too bad I snapped it a week ago playing with it at home. It's so freaking hard to find a replacement 2 piece spinning in 6' MH 6'MH also works great as a skipping rod. On the opener, I was skipping like a pro, but I can't do it consistently anymore as if that skill magically disappeared. Your 6'9ML should be great for dropshotting. And if senkos are great for you already, then keep at it with the same rod. 7'M should be great for anything that is general purpose. Tubes, flukes, and you can probably do some cranking with it if you really need. How many setups do you have right now anyways?
  15. Thanks for sharing! Too bad about the car, hope everything ends up ok and karma comes around! I can't believe that there are perch in Europe too! Do you know what kind of trouts are the same in Europe too?
  16. Nice fish there! They're getting fat and it's not even fall yet!
  17. Looks like lots of fun! Good that you guys managed even over those tough conditions.
  18. Changed over to the Spro ball bearing and split rings today, will have to see whether they will last a bit longer. I'm thinking that the spinnerbaits im using aren't the cheap stuff. I'm paying anywhere from 4 - 7 dollars for one.
  19. Both are supposed to have their merits, while the centrifrugals stop the spool from spinning too fast at the beginning, while magnetics stop the spool from spinning too fast at the end. But depending on your price range, why not look at reels that feature both? At the moment, the Abu Garcia Revo Premier and Pflueger Patriarch's feature both in one reel. I honestly don't know whether the 2 brakes are gimicks though. I have played with 2 baitcasters so far, one having only magnetic, and the other having both centrifrugal and magnetic braking systems. I don't find that I backlash more often with either reel, but that it seems I always backlash when I get excited/anxious on the cast. Oh yup, and if you ask here and on many other forums, your answer will likely be a citica or curado depending on your price range . I honestly don't care much for either, just because I don't like the way that they look.
  20. What do you know!? I have only Booyah and Terminator Spinnerbaits LOL. Going to try some of those strike king and daiwa ones out soon, as they do look pretty good too!
  21. The blades are breaking usually at the point where only the spinnerbait wire is left. Once in a while, I'll be left with one split ring. I'll try the super glue stuff, but this upcoming time i guess I'm gonna start with some more expensive split rings and ball bearings.
  22. Or Stren Fluorocast for that matter
  23. Hi All, After picking up and using spinnerbaits this year, I was wondering how long you guys to expect spinnerbaits to last? I bought 6 or so this year, and only have 1 left that is in working condition. I understand that with these things you gotta pay to play, especially with fish chomping on both the blade and body, or just hitting the blade. BUT, I feel like I'm losing far too many blades. Even Terminator spinnerbaits are losing their blades sometimes on their first fish, or even being lost after getting caught on weeds! Is there possibly something I'm doing wrong or are they really that weak? Surprisingly I haven't lost any due to the entire wire breaking. I went to BPS the other day, only to find out that replacing these blades aren't cheap! At 5 dollars a pop for a few blades, then I gotta buy the split rings and the ball bearing for them, I come to ask: Any recommendations as to any quick fixes and or solutions to not lose so many blades? Thanks in Advance.
  24. Now that is some awesome fishing and scenery. I've went around to a few of those kingston area lakes, and the fish seem much more willing to bite than at the kawarthas! I'm surprised I don't see lines from the trails of your frogs on those pictures with all the slop! You still over in the Kingston area?
