  1. I think he was talking about flyfishin in that thread, which is a different animal than float fishing. If you are float fishing, and fishing with a float reel you can actually get away with some amazing drifts by standing right at the head of a run and working the WHOLE drift (assuming you are alone) whereas a fisherman with a spinning reel has less ability to feed the line out and maintain a drift. This is a tough question to answer until we know if you are using a float reel, a spinning reel or flyfishing
  2. In a perfect world you would fish as many of them as you could before you make your purchase but thats impossible. The new AngSpec is... well probably the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It brings a tear to my eye when I look in my wallet and notice that im about $978 bucks short. One day... I recently bought a new reel, and having fished a few reels that my friends own I went with the Raven Vectra SST 3 and I think I made the best choice for my money. Mainly I went with it because my main rod is VERY light, so it balances well and the start up on the SST3 is just rediculously fast. My old reel (which I sold and am sad about) was the Raven Matrix...cheap but MAN was it ever a workhorse. I guess just get out there, spin em and hold them and decide which you like the best. Maybe even take your float rod out and see how each balances and feels on it.
  3. Interesting, but its how the world is. Fact, not fiction and probably not going to change. Capitalism works, you just gotta go after what you want.
  4. If the normal retrieve doesnt work, try a super low jerk retrieve. When I say super slow Im not kidding, its not uncommon for people to pause for as long as 15 seconds between pulls, and I have heard of up to 45 seconds (which I think is somewhat excessive). If that isnt working, chuck a big ars minnow out under a float and wait.
  5. Spiel...you aint kidding. Its saturday? So does this mean we wil catch more fish...because im good with that
  6. Probably a camera flash would be your best bet for charging them. Fire them up and sendem down the hole and see how long they last, Im sure different products have different times
  7. The limits are way too high, I would like to see a 1 or 2 fish limit across the board at least as an experiment as to how it would affect the return numbers. I would also like to see a stocking program that looks like the U.S but ill grow old fast waiting for that
  8. Best braid out there no question. Its invincible, and casts like a champ
  9. mitts are far warmer, but sometimes the situation calls for gloves. I actually have a pair of mitts that I have learned to pinn with, as long as I dont get any tangles were good to go!
  10. I never meant to say it as in hes just a steelheader, I just kinda chuckeled to myself when I thought holy crap...I bet he slays other species too! I dont mind being called a steelheader, as long as its not of the elitist variety. A certain website that I refuse to visit ever again comes to mind... Hope you get what you need out of the reel
  11. You know until this moment it never dawned on me that you might fish for other species. I thought you came out the womb with a pin in your hand! I wish I had something useful to say here, but it really dont other than that seems like a great price
  12. Good to hear that she is stable. Tough little kid you got, my thoughts go out to all of you
  13. Tell me about it. I nearly had a heart attack when my float went down! February, come on buddy get here faster! Dave I had a PM from steve last week askin if I wanted to get out. I did of course but school got in the way, lets make sure the three of us go bash a river again in the spring
  14. This is very true, I have seen countless pictures here with incorrectly named bass
  15. A big red one, with a pink tag of cotton on it. The smelliest roe I could find too. Id fish it
  16. Wait just one second Mike... Why the heck arent you in school!
  17. If you are willing to take the risk, and will not be dissapointed if you are working for another field when you graduate then I say go for it. I didn't have the balls, and opted for a much safer route but one that I am less interested in. Maybe you will turn out to be the happy one, and Ill be the CEO that works 95 hours a week with no time to spend his money.
  18. I have watched this 5 times today now. Just unreal.
  19. I have to say that this whole super sticky sharp hook thing that goes on really has me baffled... I have NEVER sharpened a hook out of the package, and only when I yank a bait out of the rocks do I fix the points on it and I can't remember the last time I lost a good fish that just shook the hook. If I stick the fish, it usually ends up in the boat. I lose my fish on cheap knots and bad hooksets, not usually on bad hooks though. just my 2 cents
  20. btjunkie.org and use a bit torrent downloader if your internet is fast its a beauty plus you can get the full albums with the covers too. I use frostwire for ones and twos, its faster and less crap than limewire
  21. I just watched it again... WAY COOL. Well, thats my goal for 2009. I have a few spots in mind where it just might happen for me. that right there is optimism at its finest!
  22. I really think its great to have a closed season on bass in the winter. I have been fishin Buckhorn lake every summer since I was 5 with my dad for a week, and I can honestly say that the fishing has been getting progresively (sp) slower. That said, it HAS picked up significantly in the past two summers. Bass arent very active during the winter anyways are they?
  23. I once hit a day on the upper section of a river that saw over 200 fish all sitting on a shallow flat in a 500 m stretch. The fish were right up near the surface and I KNEW that if I had the fly gear I could have landed a ton of fish that day. They could see the float comin from a mile away though and I only managed to land three. talk about a p off!
  24. Nope I was floating, too cold for the fly. Notice the orange tinge on the fin and around the mouth? Thats not the camera, this particular river causes a strange orange tinge on the fish in the winter and I have never figured out why. Maybe its because it flows through a bog?
