What the heck, how about a couple more. This was a great morning - 2 hour drive to fish for 2 hours and get back to class for noon. Two hours filled with double headers and spunky northern bows.

I've been exploring lots of new water this year with great success, but I haven't been taking too many pictures. Here's a few from the past week. Images are heavily cropped (apologies) because the fish came from water that was graciously shown to me. Thanks Solo. I'll toss a few more up when I get them uploaded online. Cheers.

The quick answer is yes, it can be done. Up until this season most of my fishing has been on highly pressured almost always gin clear creeks, if the fish are in they'll hit you just have to adjust. Sometimes (as I've done the past 2 weekends) you just have to head out for first light and quit when the bite turns off. There is no fun (or sport) in sitting on a pool of 20 fish in a 6 foot creek trying to coax them into taking a roe bag. Fish early, quit early. Stand back...nothing worse than standing on top of them. Small baits.

If there is any damage, it would likely be to the brake on the corner that fell without a wheel...Disc or drum?

That one kills me every time I pull up. I have seen you from afar there Paul, but never actually introduced myself. I always tried to be extra careful with any pictures out of there, but can't help but think that I probably played a part in the destruction. I leave it alone now, way too many guys on a small run of fish.
-
I did! No response... There are tons of very small ones up in the headwaters, but it certainly doesn't seem to be translating into any real #'s. That said, I have seen more this year than ever before, but I'm not holding my breath.

If I can dig up the picture I'll post it...but I have a sneaking suspicion that it is on my old blackberry that took a swim

That would make sense, but I just got the feeling that it had been there its whole life. It was 20+km from the Lake, and would have needed to navigate a fairly large dam. It didn't make a lot of sense to me that a non-spawning fish would make that type of journey and be in the river in late May...

When we stock these buggers way upstream, what size are they supposed to be when they venture back to the lake? Reason being I caught a 14" Atlantic while fishing for brookies in the spring on a stream that has been stocked in the past (although I am not sure if it still is)

Trout are far more dumb than most people think... tie an assortment of whatever roe you have and you will probably catch something assuming you can get the bait in the strike zone. That said, extra fish can definitely be had when you have fresh roe...point in case Mike schooled me today until he shared some of his crack roe

Crushing Chrome - Saturday Was on Fire!
kemper replied to Aaron Shirley's topic in General Discussion
No kidding Mike, I only found one river this weekend that WASNT prime -
My reel gets dunked all the time...if its sounds sandy then I pop the spool off and give both pieces a nice dunking to rinse the sand out. Surprise - it still works just fine. Just don't do it in December, and you shouldn't have to ask why

I'll save you steelhead guys some gas money this weekend.

Hey Bill, are you calling my civic slow!? Let's race, but you have to give me 3 stop lights headstart...and you can't leave 2nd gear
-
Agreed Raf, although my civic has about the same horsepower as a common housefly if you really wind it up you can have a bit of fun. I can't see myself in a tech-loaded automatic unless my knees give out and I'm 22 so I have lots of time to enjoy the drive. Only problem is I'm going to have to keep buying older cars, because true drivers cars are quickly going the way of the Dodo. That said, the new 911 Turbo looks pretty raw...
-
I see what you are saying, I guess my point was given the technological advances we have made in other areas it is surprising that I can't expect bells and whistles PLUS better economy. Also, my civic has air conditioning, power windows and locks, a surprisingly decent stereo, multiple air bags and ABS. Again...just thinking out loud

Yep, I figured that it would turn into a domestic vs. the world bashing, believe me that was not my intention I just happened to be comparing my car against another. If we really want to go down that road, my old man's 2006 CTS has been in since new to repair the following: right rear wheel bearing (90,000 km) left rear wheel bearing (110,000 km) completely seized steering rack (95,000 km) Two misfires (both from toasted igniters) (~140, 000km) Toast catalytic convertor (from the raw fuel that was pouring through the exhaust because of the misfires) Passenger seat airbag sensor Blown brake line in the rear And the latest gem, and exploded tranny fluid line leading into the rad... which blew with such force that it covered the entire engine bay AND the windshield. This is a $65k car that has not ever managed to make it more than 30,000 without a costly repair. I bought my old Honda for $3 grand, and the last 40,000 km have been completely 100% trouble free, still running strong at 215,000km. My Honda gets an oil change once every three months... I bet my dad's mechanic LOVES to see the Cadillac rolling in to the shop.\ Edit - I should add that in the new car sector, there is limited quality across the board

I was watching a (terrible) car review show this morning, with the host babbling on about how wonderful the Chevy Cruze is on gas so I figured I would look up the specs and see how it compares to my old 2000 Honda Civic. Here it is: 2011 Chevy Cruze Base: 1.8L I4 138 hp @ 6300 rpm 125 lb-ft @ 3800 rpm 36 mpg Highway 25 mpg City 0-60MPH - ~10 seconds 2000 Honda Civic EX : 1.6L I4 106 hp @ 6200 RPM 103 lb-ft @ 4600 RPM 36 mpg Highway 30 mpg City 0-60MPH - ~9.5 seconds Am I missing something here? Did it really take us 11 years to accomplish a nicer paint job and less rust? Oh ya, and my actual fuel consumption on a tank (mostly highway) is 6.2L/100km which is 37.94MPG Just a thought.

Its just the Western world's way of joining in to the Protesting Movement. Seems like a waste of everyone's time to me, especially when there are people in the world protesting 80 years of oppression and killings? Refocus your energy, get a job (or 2), and don't expect someone who worked hard to get to the top to give you their money because you stood outside with a sign and yelled incoherently. My 2 cents

Thanks guys, the brownie gobbled a big purple jig that I tied - I was surprised when I found the jig a mile down it's yap, usually big male browns don't do a whole lot of eating once they're in the rivers

We've been doing quite well lately...highlight of last week was feeling monster headshakes, and then seeing GOLD And one from this morning. Cheers

No holy water, just lots of legwork

The beauty (not my fish, credit goes to a friend on this one) The beast...this one is mine. Now everyone go find some bass to bother this weekend, its too hot for bows.
-
All photo credit goes to l2p on these ones! Thanks buddy I rarely photo my own fish anymore, especially if I am fishing solo...too many cameras lost to the depths
-
Dang Bill, l2p is going to be real mad...he took me there! Par, I have more pics that Anes took but there is some graffiti that would give it away for sure
