Sounds like you needed a 4wt and some dry flies If there is a hatch on, it's rare you'll get them on hardware.

You might find those pike up in the weeds a bit more if the water is up that high (Usually when I fish the French the weeds are in 6inches or so of water) Can't complain about high water levels though! I'll most likely be back up in the Main Channel somewhere with the oldman this year.

Slowly We slammed them on Johnson Silver Minnows with big grubs on the end last year. Really slows the drop as well, which helps when you are fishing in 2ft of water.
