BASS SEASON IS NOT OPEN UNTIL THE 4TH SAT IN JUNE
bushart replied to steverowbotham's topic in General Discussion
OK we all catch incedental bass when targeting other species but our lake for the past 3 weeks has been full of bass boats 5 feet from shore pitching baits---now I've been around long enough to know whats going on so you be the judge---found this guy in the middle of the lake today--I'm guessing around 17-19 inches Bushart --- -
Bump the stump brother---bump the stump pockets around cover is usually a good start---under docks is a standard Bushart

I have the 24 volt hand controlled minn kota You will need an extension handle so not to bend too much---otherwise it's been good for the reason you mentioned--I did'nt like foot pedals in big waves. I found the control arm at the head worked loose not long after purchase though and hard rights and lefts make you lean a bit much--otherwise it's good Bushart

I'm not an expert but I believe it's not a trappers licence you need but a small game licence to snare rabbits things to remember about hunting--old saying don't hunt them if there is not an "R" in the month deep fried just like fish is best And maybe don't snare them in the spring when they're expecting babies---wanna know why? YOU WOULD'NT WANT TO HURT AN INGROWN HARE WOULD YA? GOTCHA Bushart

Out lookin for Willy this morn on our local lake---started in all the old haunts---tried jig/live bait--bottom bouncer spinner--trolling different cranks at several depths---2 gators and one smallie THEN the wind started to howl so bad it drove me looking for shelter--now I always believed if I was'nt fishing the windy side I was'nt catching eyes but this was too rough. So I headed for a sheltered bay thinkin I'll catch some perch or sunnies for a while on a nice day then head home--well I was drifting jig and worm and had a nibble--felt perchish--thought I'd try some "Gulp" baits I just bought on a jig. 10 feet later 23 inch walleye---10 more feet another small guy under slot (supper fish) then heres the new rule--all after were over 18 inches so I figured I had din din and went home. Moral of story sometimes they're not on the wavy side--and you don't have to get beat up to catch them.

Regarding a baits look--I recall many years ago when a friend and I were standing on an old wooden bridge above a clearwater creek--he was smoking and when done threw the butt into the water (don't hang me on that one)--anyway as soon as it hit the water a nice speckled trout come from underneath the bridge --nailed the butt and instantly spit it out--so yeah I think reflex action has lots to do with it. Regarding bait styles---also years ago my mother on one of her journeys picked me up a body bait called a "Mirro-Lure" (No guerilla marketing here-not sure if they even still make these)--anyway it was a jointed minnow--silver in colour--metal lip and that thing would catch fish when all the other body baits would not---unsure if it was the vibration or what---anyway I only ever seen the one-and used it till it eventually wore out- I believe whatever bait you use the secret may be is getting that bait into the strike zone of your target---ie;floating raps may be useless when the fish are hanging in 25 ft of water

Man I should have said Bikini models---I guess it should be a given

It's kinda neat how talons so big can grab fish so small---evolution at its finest
-
Safety gear---bailing bucket--2 oars/paddles--heaving line--pealess whistle (mine on lifejacket) floating flashlight---running lites if out in the dark Used to be no licence on boat if under 10hp

Limey---there's lots of weeds along those shorelines---key here is close to spawning areas and flat north shore mud bays combined to those spawning areas-----west arm will still be good--you have not missed it. Remember if winds are light fish smaller baits -

No prob--I used to be local but now live 1000 miles away---thus the spots Those larson bay humps will take awhile---go into the very back bay on the left---fish from the first corner halfway into the bay-say 10 feet from shore--they may still be in there. This time of year remember water temps---**North shore will warm first off. Anyway you can go into the west arm and catch fish when some of the spinner pullers are not--like my other post head for those two islands down in the bay-left side---there's a weedy saddle between--start at the 2nd isle east corner and work the breakline off that weed ridge back to the other island--Usually 5-9 ft--on the north sides of those islands---green/chart jigs good option Recognize this water colour--Larson Bay -

Ok I'll try again once more---those last summer reefs your fishing will be really tough right now if any---those wabigoon walleye tend to recoop in those weedbeds adjacent to their spawning areas ie; The West Arm--Larson Bay and Christies island will be good this year when it opens with the late ice out---The end of contact bay in that little bay will be white hot soon so keep checking Fish small jigs and minnows as wind allows and you should upscale that catch Look for those mid lake humps and main lake points to turn on mid to late june---devils island always puts out decent eating eyes---fish the north east corner and follow the arm underwater arm that comes n/e I trust this will help -
John asked to keep this going so I have a little bit to add----I have a large family and about every branch is into geneology--this is my mothers' side They landed in Conneticut in around 1660(ish) I believe like most new world settlers from Britain (actually Scot/Irish) They stayed there till that little squirmish between England and the States on who owns the property. My anscestory wished to stay loyal to Britain and thus crossed into Now Canada to fight angainst the US. Actually we understand my family had it's own platoon named after them--anyway after the war they were given land in the Kingston area for their service---then slowly over time migrated north into the Ottawa Valley. The platoon leader apparently was retained by the then Gov't to help teach newcomers to survive-(farm/hunt/fish) in this new land---that's why I tell people my outdoors interest is pure genectics This pic is my Grandfather and his brothers (not sure if smiling was allowed in photography back then)

Well now that I'm too far away to fish "The Goon" I'll give you some spots. This time of year fish the west arm for eating size walleyes--small green jigs tipped with minnows along the islands on the left at the end are good. In about 2 weeks fish the north shore--start at the caboose along the weed edgeand backtroll out to say 8-9 ft. Not saying I know every rock on that lake by name but..............

Outside corners---big fish all day long--just kiddin-usually good though

Can a 14' tincan be cartopped on my Nissan pathfinder?
bushart replied to Victor's topic in General Discussion
Consider what else you'll be putting inside the nissan--ie; oars/motor/gas tank or batteries--may get crowded in a hurry--if you can find a cheap/good trailer may be beneficial -
Yeah no kidding----I thought we were talking about fishing closer to home---now it's turned into armaggedon and nearly a Canadian civil war---did'nt see that comin at all
-
I know I put 20 bucks of gas into my boat last wkd and the gauge hardly moved. I am fishing close to home this year (fortunate to live in good area) but I was reminded fishing on my local lake last year that sees a lot of bass tourneys with roostertails aplenty---I wonder if that will affect the wide-open travel even after take-off---I know in tourneys that time could be money but if your not cashing many cheques it starts to pinch a bit.

Ok with the terrible weather on the weekend I thought I'd try something different----in keeping with what I believe the photographers are using (photoshop) where they can accentuate a particuliar item to really stand out--I fired up the brushes and tried to paint the effect. Unfortunately my photography leaves a lot to be desired--the creek stands out more in reality Bushart

I had a similiar problem with my 50 merc---I had crud in the fuel filter that when it called for more fuel as in acceleration it would suck the crud up quicker to the port---changed the filter (cheap fix) and was done. This year I've also had some fuel line issues with my tank hose but it caused different problems--sucking air Actually my filter issue was when my motor was nearly new and I was getting my fuel on a lake marina where I believe their tank was contaminated--as I have a plastic built in tank and my filter had rust particles in it---probably not from my new motor

looks good --like the tree details and shading

looks good----this moose looks like it's posing for your next painting

tried this morning for a few willies before the weather moved in---no luck on them...but smallies were lurking about tried jig/worm-jig/gulp minno-bottom bouncer spinner---and nuthin for eyes. Caught a few smallies on a rocky point in 12 feet of water--- waited too long and got rained on---now I'm drying everything out Was once again fishing with all my friends so I had to run the camera as well as hang onto the fish---the jump shot is neat but I was just lucky The Bush Man
