Last spring in search of my next project I decided to investigate the “Lake Monster” named “Mussy” who resides in Muskrat Lake in Cobden, ON. I worked with the local newspaper and we polled the townspeople --we found there was considerable info to be gained in archival newspaper stories from the 1970’s. I learned that this story can be followed back to Champlain days where local Native Bands told of the creature of the lake. There were several accounts of sightings in the 60’s & 70’s with even a boat being flipped over in dead calm water. What I could gain was the creature has a bill shaped snout, long back fin and a tail. Somewhat green/gray in colour. I’ll attempt to keep this short. I did not wish to paint what has become the “norm” in lake monster depiction –which appears to be a 3 bump floating inflatable shot from a distance floating in open water. I also did not want it to become a Barney the dinosaur cartoon-remembering at different times people thought this to be real. I went for the close-up and as you can see had him showing himself (or herself) Now to tie it to Cobden was the next trick--Cause unstated it could be anywhere---I did not want to just throw the water tower in the mix—too much like a post card---an overturned boat could be anywhere. So I grabbed the big claim to fame for the area—Champlain’s Astrolabe finding. (Directional tool) History states that this area must have been on the voyageur route to miss the rapids on the Ottawa River. So I did overturn a boat but with 2 fleeing voyageurs just set it back in time a little. After a long time I present "Mussy" Bushart

I'll post this as I had it on another thread some time back during development. Well It bugged me so I added some more depth to the background and brightened up my salmon--see as long as I still own it I can Tinker--kinda like re-arranging your tackle in the winter. Besides it only took approx an hour to change. I have'nt posted anything new(paintings) lately cause what I'm working on took some research -but it'll soon be complete. Gonna be something completely different. Again 2 views Bushart

Current breaks--undercut banks are usually gold---eddies---bridge structures are money--slack water weedlines. If your driving to Goderich---grab a buddy and a canoe and trip the Saugeen up to Walkerton/Paisley area---tons of beaut smallies If your fishing from shore the ponds(Small lakes) in Waterford have or had some big Largies (and prehistoric snapping turtles) These will get the rust off that bass gear---but if your fishing clearwater rivers go lighter in techniques---light line--spinners/tubes and such. Now if all this fails--Whatta ya want for your stuff

The one thing I know about Apsley is that I make sure I'm driving the speed limit when I'm 10 miles either side of it---not even 10km over---I've drove that route for 30 plus years and I'm pretty sure they get a new radar gun every year cause the last one wore out. Bushart

Kinda have to caution you a bit------you don't want to fill those waders in strong current and hope that life jacket will keep everything good---liken those waders to 2 huge pails---hard to swim in---remember also in current that if you are inadvertently swept downstream to keep those feet as high as possible--cause if you lodge a foot under a limb or rock the current keeps pushing you down. Don't want to deter you but couple things to keep in mind. Bushart

$430 fine while fishing on Scugog this weekend
bushart replied to Want's topic in General Discussion
Some of these responses are like individuals have elected themselves Judge/Jury & Executioner---The guy had an oversight and it cost him---I think nobody would be happy with the $430 touch I myself have grabbed my flashlight out of the boat in a hurry because it was close and threw it in my truck only to drop the boat in the water sans flashlight---now I just travel another 100 ft and get another light. Now instead of posting "Wants" picture in the post office as someone who ravages the country's waterways knowingly breaking Transport Canada's laws--cut him some slack---cause I have yet to meet that person incapable of an oversight. With todays announcement of Consumers Gas 45% Price Hike does anyone have any new innovative ways to heat a home other than the old standards Wood/oil /electric They're saying $600 annualy increase to heat. Anyone know anything about those geothermal heat pumps? I'm wondering installation costs? I'm curious where this out of control trainwreck of our economy is heading? Bushart

I never target pike anymore but if I was looking to catch bigger ones I'd fish for walleyes cause they're usually (pike) nearby lookin for a snack---I'm finding if the eyes are dropped off a piece of structure the gators are usually on top or very close to it
