  1. A smaller lake than Rainy/Eagle/LOTW is called Thaddeus Lake north of Dryden---I want to say about an hour Good smallie fishing and muskie--walleyes as well---I believe there's a lodge there --don't know if they'll rent boats but it's only a call Bushart
  2. I guess I'm never too old to learn new things. I've been wandering around life always thinking Karma was something unexpectedly received because of a good or unselfish act you had performed in the past without thinking of your own reward. Now the way this reads is Karma is dodging a bullet--it eludes to that really nothing good happened to you here just nothing bad. In this line of thinking everytime there's an accident/fire or tragedy of any kind that did'nt happen to you it must have been Karma. Thanks for the lesson Bushart
  3. This is great stuff--it would be great if you can continue with your art. Tip**--Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do it----Years ago I stopped looking for approval from others--as long as you are satisfied, that's what matters. Remember at times where your criticism is coming from. All the best and please post more as they come. Bushart
  4. Well I was looking at my join up date and a year is fast approaching---and being a message board rookie I have learned much in my short time here at OFC. Now being an artist I believe I may have a strange angle to my view on things---everyone grab a grain of salt and I'll share my learnings... 1. Our friend from Hog Swaller is quick boy--he comes up with beauts I wish I thought of...Scientology--man I gotta start writing these down. 2. I think I have to stop using marshmallows for bait. 3. It quite possibly could be easier to ask a steelheader to (cough) date his wife than give up a river that currently is going. 4. I believe it is currently before the Senate to have the words DOCKS & BASS removed from the english Language. 5. Salmon identification is not for the faint of heart. 6. Console boats are made for fisherman who are still honing their craft till they can graduate to a tiller. 7. Finally if Anyone needs info on subjects from the end of the world to STD's somebody here has a link. I'm sure I've missed lots but these seem to stay in my memory....Peace Bushart
  5. Very good--looks like a lot of natural ability there---I would'nt hesitate posting non fishing paintings--it's all good Bushart
  6. In light of the incident in Toronto Yesterday I thought I'd share a little info that may help them in the future. Really I've been more than an artist/intelligent donkey on OFC over the years--I also held a few gas licences. I'll just hit the highpoints here.... Propane gas such as you use in the backyard BBQ is stored as a liquid in that bottle with a percentage of airspace at the top to allow for pressure relief---that's why the firefighters were hitting those unexploded tanks to keep them cool and not building excessive pressure. Propane as a liqiud boils at minus 45 degrees ---remembering water at 212--so any time in our hemisphere propane as a liquid hits the air it vapourizes. Here's the kicker kids---the amount of liquid under pressure when hits the air will expand 270x---so what you may think is a small amount becomes large quickly Here's where this affects you Our instructor from years ago who was also a member of the Gov't that did inspections--before and after the fact mentioned.. A surprisingly large amount of people that allow grease to build up on their tank and one day it catches on fire--well I guess they would kick the tank over and roll it around trying to put it out---not good You see that air space for pressure relief is no longer in the upright position with the air space at top to vent off under high pressure--so if pressure gets high enough to vent it will spew liquid propane---yep now going to expand 270x--so little problem now bigger. ---best way KEEP YOUR TANK CLEAN and follow the instructions to the letter including soap testing the connections after installation. Also people with campers/boats and the like really need to be diligent in installing a carbon detector *At lower levels* for propane appliances---propane is heavier than air unlike natural gas. Now like all those big companies I'll state if your not sure call for a professional---this is just a heads up anot intended for anyone to attempt anything outside their expertise.
  7. Thanks guys---I was guessin it was an albino heron lookin for a shrimp dinner. My Dad has been gone a long time now but I think I remember him telling me about people eating some kind of crane---not sure though--we're talking my memory from the 60's (just a kid, not what you think) Bushart
  8. Was out anglin today and seen this fellow sitting on a tree-----This probably should go in photography but in all my years have never seen a white one--this is in Ottawa Valley---anyone ever seen this? Bushart
  9. Back to the breathing licence.................I heard the breathing conservation licence is half price but your only allowed to exhale.. Bushart
  10. Hey that air has been colourized for your breathing enjoyment
  11. I'm thinkin the shakers are used for bait to catch the big ones Bushart
  12. I think there's a footnote under atlantic salmon say under 24 inches... Not how many you can eat but how fast Just kiddin boys and girls---always obey the law and listen to your mom and dad and make sure you major in biology to tell your salmonoids apart. OK I'll stop now Bushart
  13. If you love snagging hooks into peoples docks---you may one day get the angler on the dock pitching 1 oz weighted treble hooks into your boat and snagging whatever they can--same distance right?? See how that saying treat people the way you wish to be treated gets it's origin.
  14. Actually I'm thinking this thread could change "Cottage Dock" and insert numerous other things and it would still be pertinent. Guys in other boats moving in on you--------interfering with hunters on a watch------giving up your seat on the bus to an old lady etc etc etc. Really guys (or gals) tossing lures at swimming kids---like the man says--"You can't fix stupid" All this boils down to courtesy and respect for others. Maybe we inadvertently drive this ourselves---gotta get the next fish porn on OFC at any cost. I'm sure the last fish in the lake does not reside under the dock where Ma & Pa are chillin. I always avoid people when working a shoreline---be confident in your own ability to figure out what the other million fish in the lake happen to be doing at that same time you wish to chip some poor guys paint Yeah you have the right---does it make it right?--not always. Bushart
  15. I've fished creeks and rivers quite a lot and I think the rationale is fine---short rods are better for bush congested walks to the site and I'm thinking your not sacrificing much. One day if you want a hoot--get a hold of a 8foot or better fly-rod (comes in pcs)--put an ultra-lite spinning reel at the butt-takes a little getting used to---when you hook even smaller fish--feels like you have a whale on--just an idea for fun. Bushart
  16. I've been married long enough too avoid answering the question.... "Does this lure make my bass look Big?" There is no safe answer. Nice fish though Bushart
  17. I used to guide deer hunters and the story was much the same---guy crawls outta the cubicle he works 360 days a year --comes up north---gets to pee in the bush---now has the expertise of Joe Two Rivers. I avoid with a passion any statement that is absolute when it comes to the outdoors---those words are just too hard to eat---yet there is a sizable portion of the population that I guess gets a thrill of "being a Giver of knowledge" aka "expert" Can I Have a "Well Said" Bushart
  18. One may kinda assume the apologies will be flooding in to ole Clofchik--Poor guy probably hurt his back digging a 10 foot deep hole to hide the carcass on the advice of some experts. Ok boys back to the piers in the armpit of Ontario.
  19. I did a few years back Smallies and lots with bumble bee pattern Panther Martin spinners---tubes in the deeper calmer stuff--all out of a canoe Bushart

    New Work

Last spring in search of my next project I decided to investigate the “Lake Monster” named “Mussy” who resides in Muskrat Lake in Cobden, ON. I worked with the local newspaper and we polled the townspeople --we found there was considerable info to be gained in archival newspaper stories from the 1970’s. I learned that this story can be followed back to Champlain days where local Native Bands told of the creature of the lake. There were several accounts of sightings in the 60’s & 70’s with even a boat being flipped over in dead calm water. What I could gain was the creature has a bill shaped snout, long back fin and a tail. Somewhat green/gray in colour. I’ll attempt to keep this short. I did not wish to paint what has become the “norm” in lake monster depiction –which appears to be a 3 bump floating inflatable shot from a distance floating in open water. I also did not want it to become a Barney the dinosaur cartoon-remembering at different times people thought this to be real. I went for the close-up and as you can see had him showing himself (or herself) Now to tie it to Cobden was the next trick--Cause unstated it could be anywhere---I did not want to just throw the water tower in the mix—too much like a post card---an overturned boat could be anywhere. So I grabbed the big claim to fame for the area—Champlain’s Astrolabe finding. (Directional tool) History states that this area must have been on the voyageur route to miss the rapids on the Ottawa River. So I did overturn a boat but with 2 fleeing voyageurs just set it back in time a little. After a long time I present "Mussy" Bushart
  23. LOL This thread is funny to read Hey Clofchik my advice is chew quick, leave carcass for the skunks and say you got the picture off the internet. LOL Man those Salmon Cops play hardball (OK may have stole that line off Johnny Fever) Actually I heard that Salmon/Steelhead society may have it's own secret police kinda KGB ish Ok I'll quit Bushart
