Hey Guys/Gals I moved to zone 15 from NW Ontario recently and I have a quick question---Tomorrow the wife and I are gonna go after lakers but I believe there's crappies in this lake. Any tips on where and how deep to look this time of year? also bait choices? Also I see there's a walleye slot now---used to that Thanks

I hear ya Doubleheader---that's why as soon as both my kids hit 16 they had part time jobs. They still need a few lessons on money mgmt but they're learning you have to earn what comes in this life--be it cash-spouses-or even fish. My 2cents on the kids thing today is parents need to be involved in the direction they're taking--and if it's not right it's THE PARENTS DUTY to make it right or find any avenue that will. I'll share a little phrase my father told me and it's stuck with me all my life "Tell Me Who Your Friends Are & I'll tell You Who You Are" Growing up my close circle of friends were driven to achieve a better life and that friendly competition between us has made us all better. I usually use a step stool for getting on/off my high horse. Granted some of what you say is very true--I grew up watching Elmer blow daffy's bill everywhere but Tuesday and it did'nt make me a murderer (fish/deer excepted) I'm far from a politically/social teaching genius but the years have taught me a few things. such as My wife stayed home to raise our 2 kids---did we struggle --you bet--was it worth it--u bet Anyway I'm currently formulating an opinion/overview of what this latest generation is doing. For time and eternity every generation except the last few has had some hard issues to face--be they war/famine/disease/depression--whatever Now us boomers and maybe post boomers worked at achieving something through the ranks and times have been good. Now this latest group only sees the material gains and not what it took to get them nor have they had to suffer ( North America) any hard times---look at the mortgage crisis in the US--it almost took down the country. It all boils down to instant gratification and even at that 12 year old stage it appears heading down a dangerous path and I'm not sure all the social experts do either. I 100% agree with all these views---unfortunately as P' offed individuals all we are doing is agreeing with one another Now collectively we can bump the issue and start calling our MP's (I think them instead of mpp as young offenders act is federal) and try to enact change. I think they just passed a "tackling violent crime bill" recently--maybe it has some teeth. On another view---this 12-17 year old gang mentality is more evidence of youth raising themselves--anyone read "Lord of theFlies"

With Petro Can logging 1 billion in profits for it's first quarter we should all take a moment and think of how difficult it would be to handle that much money---thats the reason for the hike in prices---Do you know what bean-counters are going for these days? I think as well as paying these prices for our fuel there should be a donation bucket beside the pumps so we can contribute $$ so the CEO's of these corporations can afford the gas to get to the bank. I'm going to say that the only thing this has to do with Tim Hortons is the name on the building and boycotts maybe a bit premature. I'm sure this decision was made on the fly by local supervision and most likely was handled improperly. In a perfect world the girl could have been brought in and given a written warning and placed on a probationary period and I'm sure she would have got the message. The funny thing aside here is nobody really wants to work for timmies as every one of them I've visited is looking to hire--maybe it could have been handled better. Problem with places like these is that usually the people that last longer than a month are promoted and without the proper training do not know how to deal with employees. Bushart

Here's a good one on etiquette---last fall we were targeting smallies on steep shoreline drops. 99% of the boats were casting the shoreline with various baits. Now I'm an old backtroller and we were vertically jigging a specific piece of structure with great success. When a boat wanted to work the shoreline I pulled off and let him cast as we were'nt targeting the same fish--most just kept working up the shore. Well you guessed it one time I pulled off the spot (Which was small) and buddy decided he had found himself a new honey hole and stayed there as he had seen us catching. Now they can make like a circle and go round I just patterned what caught fish in that spot and found another and did well again---just it appeared that It was my duty to move off--nay nay

Hey Rick the same thing happened to me---I bought the cover new last summer and it seemed to repel the water great. Last fall I ran a board from my outboard to the front casting deck to make a ridge for winter storage hoping it would help runoff. Long story short when we took the cover off---I had a new wading pool.--I take my batteries out in the fall so that was'nt an issue but there was mold on the carpet. Next fall I'm getting one of those portable enclosures. I also have a smokercraft (Pro Mag)--maybe it's a Sylvan curse Bushart

My wife wanted me to dust off some of my work in storage---I found this older one I did a few years back. I found it a neat perspective under the different lighting---now you all know I'm no photographer nor have the eqpt. just this dimmer hallway lighting in our new-old house looked cool. Bushart

I cut my angling teeth on the Grand River starting 40 years ago--(Example-painting in photo section) Anyway this is one of the greatest rivers in Ontario--very accesible by millions of people---various types of fish and ways to catch them and various types of scenery from top to bottom. So grab your boat/canoe-or waders or lawn chair--all depending on area and give er Bushart

Ok this one has actually been in the works for a few years now and has seen a few changes most recently this weekend. It stems from the first time I ever went fishing was at the Grand River in Caledonia--actually the old dam was in place at that time--anyway we continued to fish there over the years and usually had fun. Now this painting is from memory and a touch towards the impressionistic so I'm sure things are outta place--I remember wading over to the centre island and catching walleyes and bass below the new dam--occasionally watching steelies trying to make it over the dam. I also remember looking at the train bridge and recalled how I used to sit at the bottom of the stone supports fishing and now they're under water. I actually put the fisherman sitting on that rock spit---I mention this cause it would need another close-up shot to see that--he's not a short wader. Bushart

As Joe Pesci says in "Lethal Weapon" OK OK OK OK OK OK OK I stopped reading the marshmallow war after page 7 so I thought I'd give a couple personal experiences on Bronte Creek 1. Back in 1976 we used to take the lakeshore bus from Hamilton to Bronte and fish with jet puffs under the hwy 2 bridge. We used to catch salmon on this rig--one note here--the bite was sudden and quick--now if this fish was swimming with his yap open and the line was dragging thru --the pull on the other end would have been more gradual---was'nt--matter of fact my buddy had his rod pulled into the water it was that sudden. 2. We started heading up creek around the first corner (Now that was before it became off limits because the anglers thought they could burn down living pine trees and peoples fences for firewood for those campfires) Anyway one day we met this guy throwing a skunk flatfish in this area and he was schooling all of us--so much for the not biting. 3. the largest steelhead I ever caught (15lbs) i caught in Lowville about 2 weeks after opener on a ---ready for it?? --you guessed--a yellow and red panther martin spinner----again when lowville was able to be fished before the picnic table tossers fixed it for the rest of us. 4. Lastly years ago I met a fella from newfoundland who was at Bronte the same time I was there in the fall--we got talking and we actually fished together for a while--again I watched as he repeatedly caught late run cohos on a perch coloured countdown rapala--go figure So I guess at the end of this novel I will never say any bait will not work. Sorry bout this but the more I looked at the first round there was something bothering me about the hard edge on the upper left wing--I had to tweek it and of course soften that edge Should be finito now

I hear ya---there used to be a law about disrupting your hunt--not sure if it's still there. Guys like this really don't know how to hunt that's why they piggyback on others work. I had a similiar thing happen with a cow and calf moose once---I could'nt believe my eyes as I watched it happen. Of course I've had as many fishing episodes as well where someone watches you at attempts to cut in---all I do is chalk it up to human nature and today's society with it's lack of respect for others.
