Anybody try anything NEW this year?
tdotfisherman replied to MCTFisher9120's topic in General Discussion
Man, oh man.. I tried so many new baits and lures this year.. the best producing lures of the year were X-Rap's & Husky Jerks for Northern Pike.. caught lots, Berkley Gulp 4" minnows for Walleye and Smallmouth Bass up north.. Baits that didn't work too well this year were cleo casting spoons for countless hours at the pier for samon.. didn't catch a bloody thing.. but then again that could have been because of the poor run in the trib mouths I was fishing, because I knew some good results were had by people out in the east end.. -
Is milking salmon eggs considered as "poaching"?
tdotfisherman replied to a topic in General Discussion
I am in amazement about how most of the threads posted this late summer/early fall on this forum in regards to salmon have gone south so quickly.. Many of the posters here have absolutely blown me away.. I thought anglers were suposed to be calm and wise.. I guess that's not the case for all.. -
Between about 40 hours at the pier throwing spoons, and about 10 hours in the rivers, I have still yet to catch anything, or see much.. in those 50 hours, I've only seen 2 Chinook Salmon landed..

Beauty fish bud, great catch.. It's nice to see at least some people catching them at piers and mouths..
-
Yep that was me by the lighthouse.. oh well, what are you going to do? Just have to come back another night, and try again.. Like I said, I would just like to see someone land a fish, It doesn't even have to be me, but last night there was nothing at all for anyone.. I'd try out east, but It's more convenient to come west because that's where my fishing buddy's live..

Looks like I was a day late! Fished the pier from 9:30pm Monday night to 4:00am Tuesday morning, with 1 hit, and no fish landed, by me, or anybody.. That's over 30 hours I've put in there this year, with not a single fish to show for it..

Nice fish dude.. I'd say 13 pounds..

I was a member of a few lesser boards, where there wasn't much posting, and wasn't much useful information.. It actually took me a while to find this site, I think I found it through Google.com somehow, most likely searching something relating to fishing, and I ended up here. I was amazed that there was such a happening community relating to Ontario fishing, and I joined right away. I don't post too much, but I love reading reports and seeing what's going on in the fishing community..

How Many Species Have You Caught So Far?
tdotfisherman replied to MCTFisher9120's topic in General Discussion
Largemouth, Smallmouth, Pike, Walleye, Rock Bass, Carp, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Creek Chub, and Brown Bullhead.. Only two fish were real trophy fish (27" Steelhead, and 27" Walleye), besides that, It hasn't been as great a year as I would have hoped for, but Fall is a big fish time of year, so we'll see what happens.. -
I've caught Pike on flipping jigs w/ trailers up in northern lakes before.. They will eat anything they can, including crayfish.. aggressive little buggers, they are..
-
I missed it by about 10 minutes.. oh well, off for some salmon..
-
Great catch Bly.. nice beefy Chinook.. So far this salmon season it seems that the majority of the Salmon being landed are in the 9-11:30pm range.. I've pretty much been fishing the early morning hours and have been skunked for all my time out there.. It seems as soon as I get to the spot, the last fish was just caught, and nothing else comes up.. It's great to see reports though, it's keeping me motivated to continue to spend money on expensive gasoline to drive out to these far away salmon spots..
-
Lots of Nothern Pike in the area.. if your fishing, a fluorocarbon or wire leader is a good thing..
-
3 Days on Georgian Bay.. The last time I went up the fishing was tough.. too many largemouth bass, not enough smallies and pike.. I like fish that actually fight, not just flop around when they are hooked.. hopefully the fishing this weekend is a bit better.. I'm currently in Salmon mode, so i'll have to tone it down a bit for the bay..
-
Wow.. I just realised your the guy who made the post about having a tough time out on Georgian Bay.. your attitude was you were going to keep trying, working your butt off, and hopefully a good result would come.. well look at the bloody result, it did come!!! Just shows you that you should never give up!
-
Congrats.. I'd say what a monster, but that would be an understatement! Great catch on the Bay.. Were you casting or trolling?
-
Great shot.. that's a huge Muskie.. Congrats on the catch.
-
Okay fair enough, everyone's entitled to their opinions.. I'm not going to hijack your thread with a debate about catching Pike.. Again Tbayboy, great report!

http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/STEL02_163569.pdf - This link should help.. It lists a number of spots, and fish you can expect to be there.. go out and experiment, do some legwork, and see what's there.. As far as lures, go to your local Canadian Tire, to the fishing section, and try a few different lures.. buy a few crankbaits, jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits, and give them all a try.. The worst thing that happens is you have a great day out fishing, and working on your technique.. And if your a complete rookie to fishing, I suggest reading a few books on the topic, and watching a few Saturday morning fishing shows, to get a little more familiar w/ things

Great quality pics there, thanks for sharing.. Although, if I was in your place I would have hoisted that big Nothern up for a few nice photos, she was a biggun..
-
My goodness, what DON'T I use to catch Smallmouth Bass.. I've used so many different lures and baits... From a hook and a live worm from back in the day, to top-water, crankbaits, jerkbaits, jigs, artificial plastics, and so on.. Currently, I'd say my favourite technique to catch Smallies would be a jig, and a Gulp Minnow, on very light fireline, on a medium-light setup.. Smallmouth are fantastic fighters, I prefer them over Largemouth Bass tenfold.. God bless this province we live in!

What a great looking boat! I can only dream of when I can own one like that..
