I totally agree that in hindsight I should have left it. The trigger is that it was broken in half, the rationale that it was garbage left behind. I understood what it was for and if it was intact, I never would have touched it. As I'm often known to say (especially at home) no good deed goes unpunished..lol

Looking for some outside perspective on an indecent i experienced out on LSC yesterday. I took out a bud and his 7 yr old son (who happens to be a fishing maniac!) on LSC yesterday in an attempt to boat their first Muskie. It was very busy at the Belle River hump as it was day 2 of a Muskie Tournament. During the late afternoon, after most of the boats had left for the day, we were trolling along and found yellow floating marker. You know, the old school way of marking a location where you caught fish or mark stucture. I picked it out of the water and it was broken in the middle so I assumed that someone just left it there.. I decided to bring it aboard and dispose of it properly. About an hour later we're making our way back to the Marina and this boat with 3 guys pull up and they start to question if we've picked up a marker.. Of course I say yes and explain that I thought is was left behind because it was broken. What followed was incessant stream of verbal abuse (with excessive profanity) causing my bud's boy to start crying. Apparently they had used this devise to mark a spot they caught fish and all 3 tore into us. When we asked them to calm down because they're upsetting the little guy, the response was that we shouldn't have brought him along... I tossed the marker back towards them into the water (making sure not to hit their nice new aluminum ranger) which brought on more abuse. We started to leave and one of the guys told us that if we ever come back to this water we should be more aware of other people's property. Now I can understand marking structure....but LSC is devoid of structure?!? Not to mention bass and muskie in this area do not hold to any one specific spot. Maybe a specific area but not a specific spot as they do cruise and roam for forage. Why use such antiquated means when almost every boat (and this wasn't a 12' tinner by any stretch) when you have GPS? Why use something like this is such a busy area? I imagine not being to impressed with that getting caught up in my prop (maybe that's why it was broken??) I believe that the 3 men represented 3 generations of the same family based on looks/attitude. How can one get so angry about something so insignificant? Especially with a young angler in their midst. Thoughts?

By definition, yes . Gas is Grillin'. Charcoal is BBQ. I have a Weber Summit NG and a Lg Big Green Egg. I use both all year round and for very different reasons. For example, if I spend big $$ on a dry aged steak I use the gas grill as charcoal imparts its own unique flavour, which IMHO, masks the nutty/beefy flavour you get from dry aged beef. Supermarket steaks get either, depending on what I'm in the mood for. For pork, especially heritage breed such as square nail or berkshire, charcoal turns them into something remarkable. One other point, if you keep the egg clean and somewhat free from ash, you can get it up to 700 deg in about 15 mins. About the same as pre-heating a gas grill.. just a bit more upfront work and cleaning. PM me if you want any specific details .

Broil King has always been the best value.. Weber, Ducane, and Napoleon are all great but more $$. Like noted above, there should be some good sales coming up and don't forget Kijiji. Sometimes people win BBQs at golf tournaments, etc. and are selling them.

+1, I know of a few lakes north east of Peterborough that the residents go to great lengths to keep non residents off the water. Their biggest fear is the introduction of invasive species followed by the increase of boat traffic. They don't own the water but they do own all the easy access to it. If there's no public access point I guess you're SOL. Also, some of the residents will become quite belligerent if you try anything. Not a situation I'd like put myself into.

I went through the entire kicker process this year. Except for Muskie trolling, my main is too fast and I don't really like the idea of idling a 150 for hours on end. I wanted a remote setup but went with the tiller handle because of the cost to rig the remote. Installed it myself, there's a vid on U-Tube that shows the best placement. Bought a cheap tiller ext. handle, upgraded it to the longer helmsmate with the U-Joint which works very well. Still found it hard to control so I started using my bow mount minn kota to steer and I locked in the kicker steering - this works very well but it does deplete the batteries which may not be desirable depending on your situation. Recently added a steering rod (Panther) between the main and the kicker and this works very well. I still leave the minn kota deployed in case I need it and I use it for the built in sonar - I use a split screen between the bow and stern sonar which helps with steering if you're following a weed line or drop off. With that being said, I use the kicker a lot. It sips fuel and as others said, its a backup to get your a$$ home if the main fails. I plan on adding a planer board mast this fall for further benefit and of course it you have or plan to have down riggers, its a no brain-er. It would be nice to know what you're boat setup is. I do a lot of car camping and I try and rent a site with electrical service so that I have power to charge my trolling motor batteries and other accessories such as my cell phone, laptop, etc. I've been toying with the idea of making a small weatherproof distribution box to utilize the 30 amp service. Something that I could plug a 30 Amp RV cable into and it would have 2 or 3 standard 15 amp receptacles. I use a large kitchen tent over a picnic table to house my stove, cooler, and supplies so something small that I could put on a shelf would be ideal. Of course everything would be rated for outdoor use. Here is an idea of what I'm thinking about although this example is a bit too large.

Agreed, there is not much better than dry aged angus! I buy the odd steak from Cumbrae's meats in Dundas, all their prime cuts are dry aged and none of their beef comes from factory farms. Most of the time even their burgers are made with dry aged beef and run about $4 each for 6oz. They are insanly delicious and it cook them to medium. Funny thing is that I haven't seen the level of increase in price this year from these small independent butchers.. which is nice for a change....

If these are truly Wagyu, then the pricing is about right. Wagyu in southern Ontario goes for about $60/lb. for strips. For those of you who don't know, Wagyu is a cross between Japanese Kobe and Black Angus, apparently done for the north American diet and climate. The meat is extremely marbled and has an incredible texture/mouth-feel. Check out some Google images. A few years ago I saw Wagyu strips in Costco (Saskatoon Sask) that was going for about 2x the price of their regular strips. Now Costco is carrying Choice Grade for about 1.3x the cost of the AAA. The choice grade (restaurant grade) has less gristle and more marbling. In-Between a AAA and Wagyu or there about. The grading system is all about marbling. With that being said, yes Wagyu is extremely spendy.. IMHO, its a treat for a steak lover such as myself. I try and buy one every year for my birthday and enjoy it with a great bottle of red wine. Each to thier own I suppose. Now why these are showing up in the NWT? :dunno:

Now that the smallies have scattered and gone deep, its onto looking for trophy largies. I'm not asking for details around your private honey holes (you can always PM it to me tho..:-)), just info on which bodies of water carry the big bucket mouths. I've fished Cooks Bay and Long point but they seem to be better small mouth fisheries. Although I'm expecting replys to come back with Scugog and Rice, what else comes to mind? What about the north east end of Lake St. Clair? Thanks in advance!.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm really impressed with the new Rapala Scatter raps. A guide I ran into while fishing the Kiwanis walleye derby turned me onto them and I can't say enough about them. I've had great success with the shad type on BOQ and Pigeon for walleye and excellent success with the Scatter rap cranks on Long Point for smallies. I haven't tested any of the other models (jointed, minnow, CD,etc) so please share.. The only downfall I've found is that the plastic bill that gives the bait its action does crack and break fairly easily.. Easy to fix with a touch of crazy glue that I carry in my TB anyways.

What is the best deal going for decent boat launch to get quick access to Cook's Bay on Lake Simcoe? It can be Cooks or the Holland river. Coming from KW, I just don't want to start out in Barrie. PM me if you don't want to share...lol. Thanks in advance,.

Picked up a Frabill F Series (F2) last season and I really like it. From Le Baron I believe. It comes in 4 different weights (F1 to F4). You purchase the jacket and bib overall bottoms separately. I really like the bibs as they are warm, dry, and have reinforced knees.

Been to Restoule and rented a cottage close to Driftwood before. Frankly, not that impressed with the fishing in those areas. Do you have any experience at Killbear?

I was looking at Rondeau and it looks like there's some decent largemouth fishing in the bay. Not that far to drive to Belle River for some 'ski's either. Thanks!
