Nice set up Terry. Good to have similar units at helm, you can't beat 2 independent full screens and it allows for networking and provides an instant back up if one has issues.
i should also add that for true newbies, it really is a great investment to book a guide or charter to learn "hands on". Or even better, hook up & make friends from OFC or Spoonpullers who live close to you.
It does go a long way to shorten the learning curve as well as having a small network of pals to share notes/info with.
I personally met a few guys nearly 10 yrs ago from here and we have fished ALOT together since and remain as great friends.
Great advice from all...
Stay away from Crapala reels...
Keep it simple to start, 2 Riggers, 2 divers and a 10 color core.
I assume you will be fishing Pt Hope?
Chomping at the bit to get out soon to chase down some trout before the Kings arrive! Should be an interesting season to say the least after this prolonged "Artic Vortex" winter....
What's everyone else thinking?
Scotty, hands down. Canadian made for one. Fairly accessable and responsive pro staff willing to help if any issues arise. Yes they have a big "footprint" in comparisson to other riggers, but they are the most durable, longest lasting riggers out there.
Banana Smelts are one of my faves now. I am also looking forward to the new jointed models.
Musky guys, have you seen the various new Sucker models that are now out?
The new Bait ball series is quite the concept... jerk bait model is gonna be HOT!
some of my best friends and many fishing buds were a result of OFC
times change tho.... still very grateful of TJ and the mods past and present for their efforts

Another exciting season is coming up and there's lots to look forward to once Mother Nature gives us the green light!
if you read the recent NewYorks Lake Ontario 2012 Fisheries Program Hilights http://www.dec.ny.go...012hilights.pdf
there are certainly many positives to be found for the "state of the lake"
there's no doubt that various pen imprinting stocking projects, as well as habitat restoration work being done by many groups around the lake are contributing to our fantastic fishery
many of these groups & clubs also hold various tournaments & derbies to support & celebrate these ventures:
St Catharines Game & Fish Assc.
Strait Line Anglers Club
Port Credit Salmon & Trout Assc.
Metro East Anglers
Central Lake Ontario Sportsmen's Assc.
I'll encourage you to look up a group that is near you and perhaps you may want to participate with them...
have a fun, safe & successful season out on the big pond everyone!
Mark
