  1. Well, I didn't expect to ever post a pic of a pan fish while out targeting Muskie but seeing how I caught my first and only Crappie this afternoon, I thought I'd post it for a laugh!!! Went out on the Ottawa with Leechman (Jacques) today in search of a nice fall fatty Lunge....we tried everything from 13" cranks to Bucktails...nadda!!! Leechman did manage to get a snot rocket to hit on a 10" Jake though ...the winds died down and now we're faced with glass type conditions on the river...so we decide to stop trolling and enjoy some peace and quiet, watch the geese fly by over us, and drift fish in the current for some eyes.....Leechman was able to get into two Saugers and a Channel cat which we decided were not worthy of taking pics ..... But, I did manage to get this guy and Jacques was quick with the camera to commemorate the moment of my first ever Crappie...12"
  2. It certainly is a GREAT catch for two guys going out on their very first attempt at catching the elusive Muskie...CONGRATS Kevin and Ryan!!!!!!..... As far as the rod holder goes, they have already been educated since this post on Down-East rod holders and I'm sure that Kev's boat will be equipped with them the next time he goes out for another hunt!!....I'm just tickled pink that these two young fella's were able to get out and catch a 50+" trophy (which BTW I believe was the size of this fish) and land it and release it quickly like pros!!
  3. Nice report and pics....fav is the first picture
  4. She sure is a beauty....clean, healthy and BIG!!....I'd put her into the 50+" trophy range...Jacques (Leechman), ask Kevin if he measured right down to the tail??... We're just heading to the rink now to watch our Granddson play hockey......the boat is all gased up and the gear is loaded..I'll see you here at the house at 9:00AM, and hopefully we'll be able to hunt down one or two of those girls today Steve
  5. I don't understand what "Smelt are an introduced species and do alot of damage to native species" means?????? I know more than a handful of Lakes that I fish that have had smelt in them since I can remember and the native species are forging on them
  6. Looks like a good season....Out of curiousity, did any of your clients qualify for a weekly prize with a big Salmon during the 6 week Salmon Derby??
  7. You cannot use smelt as bait in certain Zones and I believe there are certain lakes that prohibit the use of smelt as well....here is a couple of extracts from the 2008 Ontario Regs on some of the Zones.....I did a quick a search for smelt: OTHER ZONE 2 REGULATIONS Smelt may not be used as bait or possessed for use as bait OTHER ZONE 5 REGULATIONS Smelt may not be used as bait or possessed for use as bait
  8. Damn you Glen.. ...You mean to tell me I bought the wrong stock??????? ....this is what I poured my life savings into a few days ago

And thanks for reminding me of that big Pike I caught on Quinte last year....quite the surprise that was .....I did happen to catch this lil' girl Nov 28th last year though... See ya soon!!! Steve
