Mind blasting report Cookslav…Thoroughly enjoyed it – Made me feel like I was there. Thanks for the heads up on that hammock…That is exactly what I’ve been looking for for ages. Did you order yours online or do stores around southern Ontario carry them? Methinks I may give Algonquin park a try next spring. The meat on those specks looks to die for Thanks for sharing Mike

I hear crocodile meat tastes like chicken...
-
I wait for them to finish spawning and then die like salmon ...If I was a fish, I couldn't think of any better way of going Most of the time I just dump them into a cooler full of ice or if they're big enough, take a branch and whack them on their head...With that said I rarely keep the fish I catch. I've never tried bleeding a fish but from what I've read, the meat tastes so much better.

Congrats Dave In total I must've watched your vid more than twenty times...It's hard not to love a combo of laker porn + Aerosmith Will your next vid have a 10ft long auger like the other vid?

A few weeks ago Jet, Frozen Fire and I did a steelheading trip to one trib. Got into some nice steel but I was perhaps more excited in landing my first ever quillback. It looks like a mix between a carp and a sucker. It’s a species of carpsucker native to North America. It took a cobra sized dewy but we also hooked into a few others with Berkley pink worms of all things. Finally got the pics…I gotta admit, it sorta does look a little creepy even by coarse fish standards.LOL The reason they call it a quillback I’ve always been quite interested in coarse fish like carp, Buffalo, suckers, redhorses and catfish more so than “gamefish” – perhaps this interest developed when I was a kid growing up with a bunch of English guys who raved about Barbel fishing in the UK and Spain. Definitely one of my coolest catches…They fight surprisingly well and bulldog lots. I hear they are a rare catch in Ontario. I’d love to hook into a bigger one. Jet managed a slightly bigger one the week before. Does anyone actually target them?

Nicely done Mark Is that a pink fly stuck to fish #3's jaw?

Congrats Jacques That fish reminds me a lot of those trout I see at the grocery store...They look tasty.LOL The mini big-O is one of my favourite lures for steelhead and browns too...I painted a few in the classic kwik-fish 'skunk' pattern with silver flakes.

5 brothers all together - 4 of which work in the stores Tom - Concord store Tony - Works in all 3 stores on the brothers' day off Paul - Mississauga George - Scarborough
-
Out of the 3 Angling Specialties locations, only the Concord store (Tom + his wife) and the Scarborough store (George) do repairs (that is if you require more than a new tip top) - They're also the ones who do the custom rods. If you were to send the rod into the Mississauga location, it will most likely be sent to the Concord location for repairs. As far as quality goes, I've known George for 20yrs having lived down the street from his store most of my life - He was the one to teach me how to build rods when I was a kid. I'm very familiar with his work as I'm usually there once or twice a week to fondle new rods in progress He's been my goto guy for getting handles done since I became allergic to epoxy. Hard to go wrong with either of the Cheng brothers

Looking for Smelts (for bait) Where can I buy ??
MJL replied to tizfun's topic in General Discussion
I bought a few packs of the frozen smelts from an Asian grocery food store here in Scarborough around the Brimley rd & Sheppard area...Assorted sizes mixed together from 2.5 inches through to 6 inches long in each bag (only 3-4 big ones per bag) - No tails but everything else was intact...They went for $1.30 per bag with a few dozen smelts inside. I also had trouble looking for the ones with heads on - I planned to use them for lakers though. I ended up only using a few smelts and I fried up the rest...I actually fried up a bag I had left over from ice season today for lunch.LOL -
Give Angling Specialties (Scarborough location) a call. I can't remember if I saw the U40 Rod Bond or Cork Seal in the counter but it's worth a call. U40 products (Let alone rod building products) in general aren't widely available in the GTA. I used to get whatever U40 products (like Rod Bond, Brush cleaner and Permagloss) from Mudhole in the States.

Great report Will I'm pretty interested in knowing how the brownie tastes...I was so tempted to keep one I got this weekend...

Nicely done Steve Hard to beat watching the guy with 200+ft of line in between himself and his fish heading down river around a bend.LOL

When I think of tilapia, I think of that episode of ‘dirty jobs’ where the tilapia eat the feces of the other fish in the fish farm Maybe their diet of feces makes the flesh more firm because I gotta admit, they are quite tasty I remember watching a fishing show on tilapia…They’re being stocked in a few lakes in Arkansas for a put & take fishery there…They end up dying at the end of the season because the water gets too cold for them.

Nicely done Mark...I've caught a fair number of those pointy nose suckers from western Lake O tribs...Ironically I've never caught from eastern tribs I've become a course fish connoisseur over the years trying to catch as many species of suckers as I can.LOL You still have your black loomis pin?

There are 2 rods in the 10ft range…1 that’s 10ft rated 8-17 and the other is 10’6” rated 4-6lb I’ve owned the 10ft (8-17lb) since 2004 or 2005. I bought it from Hooked and Tackled for around $85 when Jacky closed shop. It’s a beefy rod with a slower, parabolic action (as far as heavier salmon/steelhead rods go). Under extreme pressure, it will bend down to the handle with 12lb line. I use mine for stalking carp in the shallows as well as pier chucking lures for salmon and steelhead. It's a good rod IMO for those purposes. It may be a little too heavy of a rod for clear water, small creek steelheading where you might have to drop down to 4-5lb leaders.

Dood that's awesome! I was referring only to fly casting You're not allowed to stop until you land a double digit steelhead on the pin That reel was crafted by a hobbit artisans of middle earth and anodized in the fires of mount doom which is guarded by the dark and evil Lord Sauron. It's called the Andúril centrepin...Able to demolish hoards of steelhead with the trot of its spool...In the wrong hands it's a weapon of mass destruction...That's what the Legends speak of

I figured them all out Way too easy But right-clicking on the image and looking at image-info did help somewhat

Never been to the actual store in Kitchener but the customer service that Natural Sports gave me at all the Fishing Shows and Sportsmen Shows I’ve been to over the years has been amazing…Top notch IMO. I’ve never been to Rainbow Sports but that’s a great incentive…”So you like fishing too?...”
