Sorry dude but trumps and trundras are NATIVE .. With trundras haveing a much larger pop than trumps (trumperters have slowly risen thru the hard work of people like Bev ETC , but have not yet reached levels to be able to hunt.. They (trundras have an open hunting season in alot of American states )so if you want to hunt swans look up where its legal to take a trudra and go there buy your lisence and bobs your uncle .I think the large flocks that Bob and others have seen may have been Tundras that due to the warm weather have started their migration early , but if there are enough Trumpters now that we are seeing "FLOCKS" all the better , both birds look alot alike "Trumpeter swans are the largest native waterfowl species in North America. Tundra swans are nearly as large as trumpeters, and both have white feathers and black bills. Some, but not all, tundras have a yellow spot at the base of the bill near the eye. Trumpeters never have a yellow spot. These slight differences make accurate identification difficult in the wild. The two can be distinguished more readily by the differences in the sound of their calls."from trumpter swans ques and answers , hard to tell between them for just obsevers not experts .. but we can hope these birds are on the come back and one day we will beseeing large flocks , cant imagine what 50 + birds of this size landing in a vee would look , or sound like ... . WE are talking about 26 guys who had the missfortune of being blown offshore (Im sure theres a old joke there , EYE BILLY >> ) But there were probably 1,000 guys on the lake that day , in different areas that made it home without helocopter assistence .. WHAT ABOUT THEM ????? But this is comeing from a guy who one time put my car thru the ice on the bog late one year , lucky it was the bog 10 feet from shore , water only came up to the doors , climbed out windows , a winch and half an hour ,we were home free, stupid maybe but than again fished with over 100 guys in sight that day ... Stuff happens thats why we have a rescue squad, isnt it ??? Stop people from going out if its so unsafe and the township sure doesnt refuse the tax dollars that come from the timmies etc. in the area that the ice fishers go to , without icefishing that area in the winter would be dead , cant let people go out , even advertise that great winter get aways the area offers and than double tax the guys who YOU LET GO THERE and now things happen .. BAN ICEFISHING ON SIMCOE than you never have to worry about something like this .. Damn the gas stations in the area with the taxes they pay from silly people who fill up their tanks to get home more than pay for this ... After you add up , GAS , LOST TACKLE , INSURENCE , LICENCES , CHUCK NORIS HOOK SETS THE SMASH RODS ON TO FLY BRIDGE 200 $ + "IM SORRY" down the drain , HAD A GUY FALL OUT OF THE BOAT ON A TRIP "YOU NEED GOOD INSURENCE" , and I have a family that expects me to MAKE A LIVEING . I ALLWAYS try to give a trip that I WOULD PAY FOR .. I never price myself SHORT , if I did WHY WOULD people go out on my boat , for a cheap ride ???? or a good competitively priced safe time . I win customers NOT BY BEING CHEAP , but by doing what they PAID for and doing it well .... Listen to JONN he is doing well in one of the most competitive fisheres in the province ..

Mike via Roy has just about covered it , we (established guides) have tried for some time to get some kind of licence thing and some kind of STANDARDS SET . SO far NO GO , curtain areas have Organizations that have set standards and if you want to join to get cheaper insurence you must meet their standards. Sad when a guy hires a so called guide and finds out he knows more than the guide , not to say this happens alot . Word of mouth allways kills these guys . Costs alot in equipment (who will hire a guide who does not have the best of equipment)insurence and Advertising , and like I said WORD OF MOUTH , goes along way .
