  1. 1 oz. per gallon for maintenance. Jeff.
  2. To decarb you're motor. ¾ Gal. of gas, 3 oz. of oil and 16 oz. of Seafoam. Use a 1 gallon gas jug. Run the engine 15 minutes on the Seafoam, then shut it down and let it sit for another 15 minutes. Restart the engine; the smoke you see is the carbon burning off. Do the whole thing again and let her sit again for 15 more minutes. If she smokes after the second time do it again. Jeff.
  3. My Nephew catches them on live minnows, there are thousands in our local river. Hard buggers to catch, for me anyway I've never caught one by rod and reel. I used to gig them in the shoals when I was young. Jeff.
  4. Again I agree with miller photo. Billy Bob, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. When I was 19 y/o I went to work for a wrecker company and drove for them over the next six years, I started out on the small stuff running 1 tons. I had experience with bigger stuff, I had been with my uncle and step-dad all over the united states running 18 wheelers since I was 8 y/o. As I got older I started helping out with the driving ect., so I soon moved up to they heavy hauling. I had a crew out on a service call near Thanks Giving for a semi hauling a load of frozen turkeys that had broken down, turns out the injector pump or something with the fuel system was out and we couldn’t fix it. So they radioed back and advised the dispatcher of such and that the truck was going to need a tow, well the owner of the company was there and told me to go tow it. The tandem axel Mack I normally drive was broke down, so he says take the GMC and see what you can do. I told him there is no way the GMC is going to pull that combo, the GMC was a C40 but the owner being greedy and a little on the shady side made me go. I got there and hooked up to the combo because the driver wouldn’t drop the trailer, and pulled the whole thing 10 miles to a service center. The truck driver wouldn’t ride with me he said I was crazy, he was correct. I was a twenty something hot headed guy that my boss had just made madder than fire, so I did something I shouldn’t have just because I could. So just because you can it doesn’t mean you should. The cost of an old truck v/s the liability and the possible damage to his daily driver is cheap insurance. Jeff.
  5. Good job, thanks for the pics. I bet you guy's had a blast. Jeff.
  6. millerphoto is right on, get you’re self an old truck for a couple hundred bucks and use it as a dedicated tow vehicle. You will be far better doing it this way, and then no need to worry about damaging you’re daily driver and costing you money in repairs and possibly lost time at work because you’re car wont run. But to answer you’re question, you might be able to tow the boat and retrieve it at the launch but you will need to be in 4 low. You will though have no margin for error, you’re highlanders curb weight is 1760 kg = 3880 lb. horse power 220 with 222 ft-lb. torque. So the boat even at 4,000 out weighs you’re tow vehicle, you again could probably do it. But it would not be very safe, and not worth the risk of injure to you’re self or others not to mention the possible damage to you’re daily driver. BTW yes I have towed stuff that I should never have, but I was young and wasn't using my head. Jeff.
  7. Hey Big Cliff congratulations, I hope you get many years of enjoyment and lots of great memories from you’re new boat. Jeff.
  8. Just don't take the bow strap off and back down the ramp, then pull back up. You will need to winch you're boat the rest of the way back on the trailer. I felt like a real Boat launch bozo. And I knew better, just got in a hurry and forgot my brain in the truck!!! Jeff.
  9. Good for those young men, that is the stuff memories are made of. Jeff.
  10. I got a combo bucket with 3” minnows and leeches black and pumpkin seed I think. They worked great on a gin clear lake we fished, we caught a boat load of rock bass. It out fished night crawlers 4 to 1, my Daughter caught one that was only about an inch longer than the minnow. And the best thing you can dip it and recharge it, catch multiple fish on the same bait. I agree about the leaky container, but the peanut butter jar is a great solution to the problem. Jeff.
  11. Thanks Maverick, I needed some info for my Evinrude and I found the info on the site. Jeff.
  12. Congratulation to all, smoking is a hard thing to quit. I went cold turkey several years ago and did well, but I have started back and I have been thinking real hard about the nicotine gum. What ever you do, do not give in to you’re urges no matter how long it has been since you quit. Don’t think I can just take a puff or two and I will be ok, I just want to get a taste it wont effect me. For some maybe but for the most of us no way no how, that is exactly how I started back. Jeff.
  13. Dave just dropped in to check the board and seen you're post. Glad to hear Izzy hasn't had anymore seizures and I pray that she never has another. Our prayers are with you and you’re family. God Bless. Jeff.
  14. Beans I forgot to mention, when you go to TMD scroll to near the bottom of the page and click on Chronicles of TMD there are several videos that will help you out. And TMD is a marine tech, mechanic, he is also Canadian by the way. I am new to marine engines but have gained a wealth of knowledge from his site, if you have a degree in accounting you surely can follow direction well so this although intimidating the first time around will not be terribly difficult. The group there is very helpful and polite to, and usually you will get a quick informative answer. Jeff.
  15. Good news about the Wife and Daughter Lew, and a very nice musky. Thanks for posting. Jeff.
  16. Mo and Beans check out The Marine Doctor TMD very helpful site. And as far as the durability of the motor, it really doesn’t matter what brand you are running as long as the motor has good compression everything else is an easy fix. There should still be plenty of parts available for you’re 1975 if in fact that is the year, I am currently running a 1973 Evinrude 50 on my boat and it dose well good compression and a good lower gear case I just put on a new starter and solenoid I also replaced the impeller everything else is golden. I do plan on doing a repower and prefer Mercury but that is just a personal preference akin to preferring Ford over Chevy Etc. I will tell you that with the OMC (Johnson, Evinrude and Bombardier) if you have a problem with the power head you can separate the power head because they have a removable and serviceable head where Mercury’s do not but other than that there isn’t much difference between any outboard the mechanics are the same. Also where I get my parts it doesn’t appear that you can get an impeller for a 1975 Johnson 50 but you can get the impeller assy. For $75.00 US. And changing the impeller is not that difficult. Jeff.
  17. Thanks Johnny, actually I share her passion she would rather fish than eat I believe. But my passion is fishing Canada a slow bite on Lake Nipissing is better to me than a good day of fishing here local, I have never really enjoyed fishing our local waters except for trout fishing which is stocked by our state DNR but we do have some streams with a sustainable wild population. But other than that it is cat fish and fresh water drum and the like. We haven’t really targeted bass as of yet but will get into that next summer, we just got a new used boat and I have been working on it all week. Jeff.
  18. Victor you are correct the ladies did catch the biggest ones, the Sister-n-law lost a huge walleye at the side of the boat it would have made the others looked like minnows. Jeff.
  19. Hey Glen I agree, I’m ready to go back myself. Also to let you know the dock hands spoke highly of you, both Ryan and Won said you were a blast to be around something about a wild southern with some Mt. Dew. Unfortunately Won was laid off on the 9th but he still might be in the area, he was checking a couple places local and seemed promising. Jeff.
  20. Well the bite was slow and the weather wasn’t great but we did manage a few fish. I think this was probably the catch of the trip. The wife and I. The Wife with her fish. Sister-n-laws catch. Little Brother's catch. My catch. We did have a great time despite sleeping in the tent dealing with the cold damp weather, witch wouldn’t have been bad if not for the rain. But just being there after 24 years was awesome and again a big thanks to those who provided tips. All of our catches came from night crawlers except for the pike witch we caught trolling. Jeff.
  21. Holly cow what a hog!!! Congrats to your girlfriend.
