  1. As seaweed said the bite was slow, had to work for the ones we caught but we did manage some decent walleyes, a few pike on the troll and some good smallies, a bunch of rock bass, red ear and perch with a few being jumbo. No one in camp was catching good numbers and two couples had been there for a month, but the atmosphere is great and the entire staff at Lake Air is wonderful. Hey Seaweed, it was nice seeing you. We headed home Thursday eve a couple hours after you passed us just out from Memquisit Lodge. Jeff.
  2. GCD, we would have to swing a little south to pick you up Brother but I would like to meet you. Wish I could make the September OFC G2G but it just aint in the cards. Hope to get to one of the G2G soon though... Gerry I will keep an eye out for you, I think we will be spending some time east of Squaw Island where it opens up and around the islands beyond there if memory serves me correct. It has been 25 years though, that is where we fished mostly when I was a kid, and some west of warren bay. Jeff.
  3. We will be pulling out around 21:30 (9:30) tomorrow night. Hopefully I will have a good report when we get back and some good pics. Jeff. PS. Thanks to those who offered me some tips, you know who you are. The family says thanks also.
  4. Don't catch them all Gerritt, leave some for me. Pics would be nice though. Jeff.
  5. A manual would be a good investment but don’t buy a Clymer manual for that motor, I did and it was a waste of $40.00 it dose not go into much detail. I don’t know about others but I would say a factory service manual would be worth the $75.00, I wish I would have bought the FSM in the first place. Jeff.
  6. Fins, the link Lostchild posted is a good explanation of how to change the impeller. Your mercury should be identical to what is described in the link, I have a 1986 Smoker craft Bass catcher with an 86 mercury 50hp. I just replaced the lower unit and it really wasn’t that hard the most difficult part was getting the shifting rod lined up. The one thing I see that he left out is there are 2 seals that go on the top end of the driveshaft, when you get the lower unit down they will likely stay up in the housing. If they aren’t on the drive shaft when you get it out, take a flashlight and look up inside of the housing you can use a screw driver to wiggle them out. Jeff.
  7. Burt, not sure about Fl. But last year when we went to Ocracoke Island, Nc. We stopped at Kitty Hawk, NC and bought our saltwater license. And a month later we were in Wilmington, Nc and got our saltwater license at Wal-Mart. I would say if they have a sporting goods dept. you will be good to go. If in doubt you can call them and ask. Wal-Mart 3838 S Semoran Blvd, Orlando, FL - (407) 277-4314‎ Not sure if this will be the closest one to you there are 9 in that area but they should be able to tell you what you need to know. Or you can get them online at Florida fish and wildlife or call 1-888-FISH FLORIDA. Jeff.
  8. Thanks seaweed, we will be camping hope to see yah there.
  9. I hear you Glen. I love looking over all of the pics from the G2G, looks like fun. Maybe one day I will get to meet some of you in person, I'm looking forward to that. Thanks hogman3006 looks like it would catch fish. I'm checking in between Ambulance calls, as I'm on duty tonight. Jeff.
  10. MrEh, I wish we was there last week I would like to have met the group. Andy thanks for your info. Jeff.
  11. Hello all, I am hoping to get some tips from those in the know. I will be at Lakair with my wife, brother and his wife the first week of August and was wondering if you could provide me with some tips. I’m not asking for the location of you’re honey hole, just some general areas to try weed edges and the like and what type of presentation, like drop shooting, spinners, spoons or just plain split shot and hook with a crawler. What we will be targeting is Pike first and foremost as well as Walleyes and Perch, now we are not looking for trophy fish just good catch able numbers. I am renting a boat from Kevin so no electronics, I did order a map from him and it is in the mail and hopefully will be able to recognize humps and points to help us locate good spots. Also I am a very new to fishing like this. I have been on Nipissing about five times when I was a kid and always fished were my Step Dad and Grandfather setup, so as far as locating good spots I’m about as green as they come. I have been scouring the net to learn as much as I can but some times all of that stuff is a bit confusing. We do practice catch and release but I will probably keep a few Perch for eating, but other than that they all go back in the lake. What I have so far in the line of gear is Mepps spinners, silver minnow spoons for trolling, a couple shad raps and jigs of different colors with plastic grubs and minnow bodies. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Jeff…
  12. Amazing work I really enjoyed it. Jeff.
  13. Marty, great post glad to see Dawson enjoyed him self so much. By his smile in every picture it’s quite evident that he did. You are creating memories for him that he will never forget, I can tell you my first Canadian trip was around his age and about 5 subsequent trips all at Lakair. The last one when I was 15 that was some 25 years ago and I have not forgotten my trips there as a young man. And think goodness I will be back there the first week of August to rekindle all of those memories. Jeff.
  14. Lew when in Aug. are you going to be there? My family and I will be there the 2nd. thru the 9th. Jeff.
  15. Hellfish, do a net search for Firefighter challenge. This is the basis a lot of Departments in the states are using for there agility testing. Also for the written exam in the states they ask basic math, mechanical such as ratios, levers, inclines and such. The mechanical part is to show the advantage of using levers, inclines and ratios such as gears and pulleys for fire ground tasks. There is also general English type stuff like sentence structure, and comprehension type stuff and mapping. There will be maps asking you to take the shortest route from point a to point b while avoiding one-way streets etc. I hope this helps. I was a volunteer for 26 yrs. And worked for a paid dept for a short while then went to paid on call for the same city department. Jeff.
